The Porsche 930 is a legend to enthusiasts all over the world, impressed by its incredible power and stunning looks. This Classic automobile was Porsche’s top-of-the-line model throughout its intermittent production from 1975-1989. Known to every car enthusiast simply as the turbo, the 930 was always among the fastest sports car money could buy.
Certainly the ultimate Porsche in the 930 series culminated with the ’89 turbo Cabriolet. Striking the perfect balance between old school and jet age; it was first to incorporate technological advancements which dramatically increased horsepower and improved road handling and the last year to feature the "classic" body style; free of complex emissions equipment, stability control, and other electronic systems that limit the driver's input.
But the biggest improvement for 1989 was the long-awaited GETRAG G-50 5-speed transmission. It was based on the transmission used in the 3.2 Carrera, but featured stronger cases and modified gear ratios to handle the turbocharged engine. A mere 600 U.S. spec Turbo Cabriolets were built in 1989 but this Monster Porsche was special ordered with the astonishing 400 HP twin plug engine through Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, FL. What a find!
In January 1989, VIN * WP0EB0937KS070423* one of only 600 left the factory gates of Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, West Germany. Shortly after, production of the 930 ended forever.
Selling new on March 11, 1989 at Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville FL.
The current owner is a mature, prominent businessman who keeps the car covered and sheltered in his “man cave” among a private collection of museum quality Porsches.
During this ownership, (less than 800 miles ago) the car received an extensive $42K+ engine rebuild, a brand new convertible top, 17’ reproduction Fuchs wheels with Bridgestone Potenza radials and an upgraded audio system. All receipts are available in PDF and can be emailed or faxed to you.
Hence, a unique opportunity arises to obtain a coveted Turbo, one that has always enjoyed a most beneficial climate and is pampered beyond belief by a mature owner with big pockets and the willingness to pay up for the best service and upgrades money can buy.
Let's check out this dream find now, inside and out!
We start our inspection with the trunk, since this area can deliver valuable clues about a Porsche's true condition.
Original tire inflation compressor kit is still present.
Below the perfect gray felt mat, everything looks pristinely original.
XD400/4 4-Channel Amplifier powers the Kenwood KIV-BT900 AM/FM/USB HD audio system W/Bluetooth JL Audio and 8 Speakers. The STREET FIRE CDI Multi-Spark Ignition System brings state-of-the-art performance to the twin plug system.
Looking forward, the naked trunk reveals the naked truth.
From the untouched VREDESTEIN Space Master spare and complete tool roll, to the corrosion free battery area; everything is as virginal as it gets.
Concours ready, literally.
And yes, the white paint is 100% original!
To call the paint "well preserved" would be a gross understatement; the truly marvelous finish has retained its magical luster over the years and still appears stunningly beautiful today.
This turbo has never suffered any damage; there are virtually no door dings or rock chips to report.
Hood and door gaps are in perfect alignment; confirming the turbo's pampered existence for the past 25 years.
The brand new convertible top was just fitted. The canvas boot is a very desirable option.
Power feature opens and closes the top perfectly
Added (OEM Porsche) side markers and rear fog lamp are a nice Euro touch for the US Porsche.
Other turbo options include power brakes, power/heated mirrors, power windows and headlight washer jets.
The lowered stance, deep front valance and large rear spoiler are no visual gimmicks, mind you.
With acceleration from zero to sixty in the sub 5-second range and a top speed of over 180mph, aerodynamics becomes a vital part of survival.
So are the brakes, by the way, hugely sized multi-caliper units grabbing drilled discs, derived straight from the famous Porsche 917 Can-Am race car.
Larger 17” replica FUCHS forged alloy wheels are a dramatic improvement in both looks and performance on the Turbo…
…especially when fitted with fresh Bridgestone Potenza RE11 255/40R17s, out back and 225/45R17s in front.
While we’re down on one knee, let’s have a look underneath because more important than shiny paint and sparkling wheels is a healthy undercarriage.
This original chassis presents itself free of any kind of damage or corrosion.
Area below trunk, including the front suspension pan, looks marvelous as well. It's damage free, clean as a whistle, with all factory finishes preserved in reference quality.
Perfectly undisturbed, the undercarriage displays all the factory-applied coatings, including some Zuffenhausen-generated paint overspray.
Again, there's no rust, no flaking, no damage, just the all-original finishes.
Most importantly, there is absolutely NO evidence of rust, or any other mishap that would cause the enthusiast sleepless nights.
Peeking inside this Turbo, luxury is abundant.
This Carrera comes with the full leather interior that exudes a fantastic aroma; let's investigate!
The inviting, factory optioned 8-way power seats will easily accommodate a 6'6"-tall NBA player.
Italian cow hides grace virtually every surface inside: dash, front and rear seats, door panels, and side panels; all this is complemented by deep velour carpeting and plush mats exclusive to the Turbo.
Wire inside glove box provides plug-in for iPhone or iPod device.
The upgraded Kenwood KIV-BT900 AM/FM/USB HD with JL Audio XD400/4 features: · 3" Full Color LCD Display · iPod(R)/iPhone(R) Video & Audio Playback · Built-In Parrot(R) Bluetooth(R) For Hands-Free Cellular Phone Operation · Video Output For Back Seat Monitor · Ripping From USB To Internal Memory (512 Mb)
Wireless remote located between the seats.
The iconic 911 cockpit featuring five large, circular, white-on-black dials with bright orange pointers are a timeless design. You can't improve upon perfection!
And the 059,401 miles shown on the 6-digit odometer are original!
Fully optioned with climate control, ice cold A/C, power seats, windows and heated mirrors, everything works perfectly, of course.
Books, manuals, and documents found inside the red vinyl pouch include the owner's manual, maintenance book, and radio instruction manual. There's also a spare key set.
Headliner shown from the inside of this brand new power convertible top is pristine. Above and below - top seals tight as a drum with no leaks or unusual wind noises.
The condition of this leather interior is consistent only with a cherished, low-mileage car that's been garaged all its life.
Factory-prescribed, large whale tail rear spoiler feeds huge air-to-air intercooler with all the fresh oxygen it needs.
How about a quick peek under the deck lid?
Inside the toothbrush-clean engine bay, lives Porsche's fabled 3.3-liter turbo power plant. This spectacular twin plug engine develops an astonishing 400 Teutonic horses @5,500 rpm. Even the factory decals are still in place.
This turbo runs super strong and displays no ill manners whatsoever--like smoking, oil piddling, or drinking.
12 leads from the distributer ignite the dual plug, 6-cylinder engine.
Frog's eye view. Notice stainless steel exhaust system.
Engine's bottom end, dry and clean.
Not a single oil leak to note. Dry as a bone and clean as a whistle.
With a $42,000 overhaul in the last 800 miles, the new owner can be assured of trouble free driving, now and way into the future. Fly in and drive home; even accross the country, if that is where you live.
Drivability:
The car runs, drives, handles, and stops flawlessly. Docile around town but explodes on the track. Above 4,500rpm, it sounds like a STIHL on steroids and it accelerates like a crazed ape.
Driving this collectible, exotic Porsche is truly an unforgettable, uniquely pleasurable experience. Its low mileage and full engine overhaul certainly provides an extra dimension of assurance and satisfaction: there are no squeaks or rattles; this 930 feels as solid as a rock!
What better way to enjoy the landscape-blurring speeds of the 930 than with the roof open and the wind in your hair? Throughout their production, the alluring turbo-boosted Cabriolets have always commanded greater prices than their solid-top counterparts.
Here's your chance to acquire one of the last, first-generation Porsche 930 supercars. The Turbo delivers everything its aggressive exterior promises: extreme driving pleasures, undiminished prestige, and unlimited appreciation potential.
A scant 600 U.S. turbo Cabs were made in '89 featuring the five-speed transmission. Today they are the most sought-after of the early Porsche 930 turbos. Almost three decades later, finding another rare twin plug example like this one will be next to impossible. As always, the best of the best are destined to appreciate steadily.

2012 TechArt Porsche 911 is visually dazzling, both inside and out
Wed, 07 Mar 2012One way to ensure that your brand-new Porsche 911 (a.k.a. 991) won't look like the one in your neighbor's driveway is to give TechArt a call. The famed German tuner has rolled out its version of the latest Carrera and Carrera S at the Geneva Motor Show and trust us, it won't be mistaken for anything from the factory in Stuttgart.
Up front, TechArt has fitted its own unique two-part spoiler with integrated splitter while more aggressive side skirts adorn the rocker panels. The rear has a new lower diffuser, wrapped around the TechArt exhaust, and a large fixed rear wing (complete with an integrated third brake light). Look more closely to notice the subtle trim panels on the exterior mirrors and front headlights. The wheels are lightweight forged 20- and 21-inch alloys with matching paint on their rims.
Inside the heavily modified cabin are even more drastic enhancements (let's say TechArt has gone over the top). Don't let the aluminum pedals be a distraction as you inspect the black Alcantara and high-grade leather covering nearly every square inch. Flirting with gaudy, the dark upholstery is contrasted by vehicle-color-coordinated stitching and painted trim splashed throughout. However, the icing on the cake is an insanely thick TechArt three-spoke sports steering wheel.
Porsche releases special edition 911 GTS Club Coupe
Wed, Jan 21 2015Porsche is never afraid to add one more variant of the 911 to the lineup, but its latest inclusion to the range is being kept extra limited, to keep things super special. The automaker is building just 60 examples of the 911 GTS Club Coupe, and only members of the Porsche Club of America can order them. The organization fittingly celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Prices for 59 of the cars start at $136,060, plus $995 destination, with deliveries in June, and club members can win the last car (the showcar) as a prize. Mechanically, these vehicles take the 430-horsepower engine, wider body and rest of the updates from the regular 911 GTS, but all of these come in a unique color called Club Blau. The cobalt shade gets set off with black frames around the bi-xenon headlights, tinted taillights and black chrome exhaust outlets. The limited coupes also get a vintage-inspired ducktail rear spoiler and 20-inch Sport Classic wheels in a mix of semi-gloss black and polished metal that evoke the look of the classic Fuchs wheels on older 911s. For added contrast inside, the seat stitching, seat belts and tachometer are offset in red. Plus, the trim for the dashboard, doors and center console features carbon fiber. Capping things off, a plaque reading "GTS Club Coupe 60 Years Porsche Club of America" is near the glovebox. Being a Porsche, there are still options on these special models. The Extended Club Coupe Package goes so far as to include the key painted in Club Blau and adds leather-edged floormats. A custom car cover is also available. Check out the gallery to pick out all of the stylish tweaks for these celebratory 911s. GTS CLUB COUPE REVEALED IN THE NEW PCNA HEADQUARTERS AT ONE PORSCHE DRIVE Porsche celebrates 60th anniversary of Porsche Club of America with limited-edition 911 model Atlanta. Celebrating six decades of the largest Porsche club organization in the world, Porsche Cars North America is commemorating this milestone with a 60 unit limited-production run of the Club Coupe based on the 911 Carrera GTS. Known as the GTS Club Coupe, the 430 hp sports car is painted in a color unique to this model appropriately named "Club Blau," which was created exclusively for this anniversary edition by the Porsche Club of America.
Porsche 991 vs. 930 Flatnose in 911 Turbo convertible faceoff
Tue, 15 Jul 2014The Porsche 911 Turbo has a legacy of being a tough car to drive. With a ton of power set right over the rear wheels, its reputation is to lose control as soon as the driver stops concentrating. However, this isn't quite so true anymore. The modern ones are tamed through technology with things like hydraulically controlled engine mounts, not to mention all-wheel drive. In its latest video, Autocar tries to decide whether 25 years of progress really makes the turbo a better vehicle.
It's summer, so what better version to compare than the 911 Turbo Cabriolet? In one corner, Autocar has the latest and greatest 2014 version pumping out 513 horsepower and 486 pound-feet of torque with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Its challenger is a 1989 911 flatnose convertible sporting 326 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque. It's a truly rare car in the UK with only eight of them remaining on the roads in that region.
Granted, this test isn't so much a battle as it is a comparison. There's no question that the modern 911 would beat the classic in practically every objective category. What the video aims to find out is whether the flatnose is better in subjective measurements like its "feel." Scroll down to watch these two droptop Porsches square off.
