Absolutely stunning Platinum Metallic 911SC coupe. Almost impossible to find today in this condition. Garaged and pampered since new. CA car since new. Original window sticker. Binder full of service records. Runs and drives outstanding. Looks like original paint and in amazing condition. Extremely nice interior. Everything works, and this is a turn key car. Has been stored for several years, and thus, some routine maintenance items my present themselves once the car gets some regular use, as would be expected. Very well sorted with 7&8x16's, lowered and corner balance, H4 sealed beams, and very conservatively installed upgraded CD Audio system with powered subwoofer (really sounds fantastic if you're into that sort of thing). Lots of recent maintenance. Car runs very strong and confident. Great oil pressure. Excellent 915 gear box with no issues. Shifts in and out of all 5 gears and revers with ease and no fussy down shifts, grinding or popping out of gear. Motor, nor trans appear to be leaking anything. Travels like an arrow down the road at todays speeds, straight and true with no freeway wonder, wind noise, rattles or squeaks. PPI always welcomed and encouraged, just needs to be done prior to auction ending. These cars are getting scarce fast with prices skyrocketing. Dry, well owned CA examples like this one don't last long so don't wait. Call or email today. (916) 813-2124. Sales tax and lic/reg fees available at time of purchase to all California buyers. Porsche 911 Aerodynamic prototype cheated the wind ahead of its time
Wed, 04 Jun 2014You might think that sports cars would have the lowest drag coefficient of all cars. And yes, they do tend to be more slippery than, say, SUVs or convertibles, but the sleekest vehicles on the road tend to be EVs, hybrids and luxury sedans. Sports cars, on the other hand, have aerodynamically detrimental needs for downforce and additional engine cooling. Still, the Porsche 911 is better than most, and has only gotten more so over the years. Its relatively narrow track and compact form mean it has a smaller frontal area than some other sports cars, and the gradual sweeping back of its headlights and windshield have only augmented its capacity for cheating the wind.
This 911 prototype, however, is even more aerodynamic than most. It's based on a "G model" 911 from 1984, but employed such features as covered wheels, a new rear spoiler and a reprofiled front end to drop its drag coefficient from 0.40 to 0.27, making it as slippery as a modern sedan and better at cheating the wind than just about anything built up to that point, save for maybe the Tatra 77, Citroën SM or Tucker Torpedo.
Elements of this prototype ended up gradually making it into production Porsches for years to come, and you can clearly see early influences on the second-generation 964 and even on the 959. It's featured here as the latest installment in a video series on rare historic Porsches unearthed from the company archives, following previous clips that featured a rare V8-powered 911 and a mid-engined 911 prototype. Scope out the latest episode in the video below.
1989 Porsche 911 Turbo rolls out of Harry's Garage
Sun, May 31 2015It's getting increasing hard not to feel a little envious of Harry Metcalfe's collection of vehicles, especially with his latest purchase. He now owns the trinity of '80s European supercars with an '87 Lamborghini Countach, an '87 Ferrari Testarossa, and the recent addition of an '89 Porsche 911 Turbo. With the other two already featured in videos, the example from Stuttgart gets the focus in Metcalfe's latest clip. These turbos have a reputation for being a bit of a handful to drive, and according to Metcalfe that notoriety isn't entirely undeserved. With no power steering, floor-mounted pedals, oddly placed controls and lots of turbo lag, this era of 911 Turbo is difficult to master. However, it's a wonderful challenge that really engages the driver, according to Metcalfe. While a very different vehicle from the Countach or Testarossa, it's clear that this 911 Turbo is still a beloved member in Metcalfe's trio of '80s supercars. Let him give you a detailed explanation why in this video.
Chris Harris gets filthy in a WRC-ready Porsche 911 RGT
Thu, Jan 15 2015Last time we rode with Chris Harris we were shotgun in the tan leather seat of his used-yet-immaculate Ferrari FF. This time we're strapped into a black racing bucket of a filthy Porsche 911 rally car, one that led Harris to effuse, "I don't think I've driven a more exciting car this year, hypercars included." The thrills come courtesy of a 997-series Cup Car that's been reworked by Tuthill Porsche to run in the RGT-class rally series that will piggyback on five World Rally Championship and European Rally Championship races this year. It's not quite the Rothmans Dakar monster, but the RGT series gives privateers an affordable way into rallying with cars that look different and are different from one another. This one kept its 3.8-liter, 444-horsepower 997 Cup engine, but the 39-milllimeter restrictor drops that to about 350 hp. Beyond that are a new rollcage, gear ratios, suspension, fuel tank, underfloor protection and just about everything else. Said the man who built it, it cost "a lot, and it's still costing." But Harris says even though you "have to have your wits about you," it's a hoot to drive. And this is one of the few times you'll hear the phrase "What a tool!" used as a compliment.
