I am the original owner of this vehicle (non-smoker). The MSRP was $117,900. I purchased it in August of 2008. It has been extremely well cared for, always garaged and is in very good condition. I am selling it because I purchased another vehicle. Most of the miles were driven on the highway going to a summer house. All maintenance was performed by the local Porsche dealer and it is completely current. It recently received its majorservice consisting of oil and filter change, air filter change, cabin filter change, brake flush, replacement of front brakes and replacement of spark plugs and ignition coils ($3,800). It has all-season tires with 9/32nds of tread (i.e., less than 50% worn). The car is located in Greenwich, Connecticut and I have the title in-hand. The specs are: Midnight Blue Metallic, Cabriolet roof - Metropol Blue, Sand Beige Full Leather, Power Seat Package, Tiptronic S, Self Dimming Mirrors, Heated Front Seats, 19" Carrera Classic Wheel, Wheel Caps with Colored Crest, Parking Assist System, Navigation Module for PCM, Bose High End Surround Package, iPod Connection (added after by dealer), Floor Mats and Carpet in deviating color matching exterior, Headlight Cleaner Cover Exterior Color, Leather Sun Visors Lighted Mirror, Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes. I have copies of all the service records, including the two $1,700 items listed on Carfax. Leno buys classic Porsche 356 Carrera 2, seeks out and finds perfect expert for help
Mon, 19 Aug 2013The world of collector cars is fairly tight-knit when you get down to individual models. Need proof? Just take a look at this latest video from Jay Leno's Garage. The subject is a gorgeous 1963 Porsche 356 Carrera 2. Jay, being known as quite a collector, got a call from someone looking to sell. While doing his due diligence and looking for a 356 expert to go over the car with him, he came across John Willhoit.
Where the story gets weird is when Leno is asked the license plate number - it turns out that Willhoit, owner of Willhoit Restorations, had restored the exact same car more than 30 years prior. He then sold it to the same person that was looking to give it to Leno. What follows is a truly interesting video on the little quirks of the 356, along with Willhoit's personal history on a car he hadn't seen since 1976.
This is a bit more mechanically detailed than Leno's normal videos, but it's on a very interesting subject. Take a look below for the entire film.
2012 TechArt Porsche 911 is visually dazzling, both inside and out
Wed, 07 Mar 2012One way to ensure that your brand-new Porsche 911 (a.k.a. 991) won't look like the one in your neighbor's driveway is to give TechArt a call. The famed German tuner has rolled out its version of the latest Carrera and Carrera S at the Geneva Motor Show and trust us, it won't be mistaken for anything from the factory in Stuttgart.
Up front, TechArt has fitted its own unique two-part spoiler with integrated splitter while more aggressive side skirts adorn the rocker panels. The rear has a new lower diffuser, wrapped around the TechArt exhaust, and a large fixed rear wing (complete with an integrated third brake light). Look more closely to notice the subtle trim panels on the exterior mirrors and front headlights. The wheels are lightweight forged 20- and 21-inch alloys with matching paint on their rims.
Inside the heavily modified cabin are even more drastic enhancements (let's say TechArt has gone over the top). Don't let the aluminum pedals be a distraction as you inspect the black Alcantara and high-grade leather covering nearly every square inch. Flirting with gaudy, the dark upholstery is contrasted by vehicle-color-coordinated stitching and painted trim splashed throughout. However, the icing on the cake is an insanely thick TechArt three-spoke sports steering wheel.
Porsche resurrects V8-powered 911 prototype from the Eighties
Wed, 14 May 2014These days, we take it for granted that the Porsche 911 uses a flat-six engine. That's because every version of the iconic rear-engined sports car has had one. Right? Well, for the most part. There was the 912 that joined the original in the late Sixties with a flat-four. And in the mid-Eighties, Porsche toyed around with the idea of a V8-powered 911.
After the first-generation 911 had been in production for over two decades, Porsche began development of its successor, the 964, in the 1980s. And one of its ideas was to use a V8 engine. So it took a 964, borrowed a V8 from Audi, gave it the rear bodywork from a 959 and dubbed it the 965.
The idea was to create a more affordable successor to the 959 that included its advanced all-wheel drive system and active suspension. The Audi V8 would have been replaced with one of Porsche's own design - possibly based on the it had built for Indy racing - but Dr. Ulrich Bez (who was then head of Porsche R&D long before taking the reins at Aston Martin) ultimately killed the project.
