Boston Auto Agents is a vehicle services agency that provides a wide spectrum of vehicle related resources to individuals and organizations in the Boston area.  As part of our service we provide our clients with a system where we assist them in the private sale of their vehicles.  In this case our client, who does not have the availability to facilitate this sale, no longer has need of the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 we helped him purchase earlier in the summer.  He loves the car but as is a good problem to have he has no more room for it in the garage.  This was a fourth vehicle and given the infrequency with which he foresees himself driving the car in the future he has decided to part with it.

The vehicle was originally purchased from Porsche of Burlington in June of 2011, official in service date of 6/13/2011, leaving as of 8/16/2011 22 months or 32,700 miles of new vehicle warranty.  The car was then purchased by our client in May of this year from Chambers Motorcars, the Mercedes dealer in Somerville, MA.  Work orders from that sale are available and will be furnished upon request.  As this is a private listing we are limited as to the amount of pictures available to post but will furnish more upon request as well.

The vehicle is in excellent condition.  The exterior body, including the soft top, is flawless.  There is some curb damage to the front and rear passenger side wheels.  Nothing structural, the wheels are straight and there is no tire issue, just a couple of slight scrapes on the rear and one nickel sized descending triangular nick on the front.  The interior is extremely clean, the only issue is the small storage compartment in the center console has some flaking around the edge where one would flip the compartment to the right to open it.  We will furnish a picture of this as well upon request.

If you are local to the Boston area we will schedule an appointment to test drive.  Local or not we will, upon your request, have the vehicle brought to the certified new Porsche dealer of your choosing for a diagnostic.  We will not pay for the diagnostic but will refund the cost upon completion of a sale.  We will only allow Porsche certified technicians access to the vehicle for diagnostic and inspection purposes.

If you are the winning bidder on the vehicle we will facilitate payment via wire service, the vehicle will be released immediately with title being released upon confirmation from the receiving institution that funds have cleared.  If you are a local buyer we will accept certified funds at an in-person closing but will only release the vehicle and title once said funds clear.

We will assist with the logistics of shipping but will incur no shipping charges.  If you are within 150 miles of Boston we will deliver the car free of charge, if you are between 150 and 300 miles you can opt to have us drive the car to you for a $350 fee.

This is a beautiful car and a unique opportunity to obtain a dealer quality 911 at a private party price.  Best of luck.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

Top Gear brings together LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918

Mon, Jan 26 2015

Earlier this month, Top Gear released a brief video of the comparison test between three hybrid hypercars we'd all been waiting for: the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder. The story was done by the print magazine and not by the television show, and the video they released was barely over half a minute long, reserving the full version for subscribers of the iPad edition. Now the British mag has put the full video on YouTube, and while it's still only a minute and a half long – three times the length of the previous teaser – it's packed with electrified exotic goodness. The test surely took some serious wrangling to put together, and though the metal (or carbon fiber, as the case may be) was apparently furnished mostly by private owners, to hear Top Gear tell it, the manufacturers – Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche – were eager and helpful in putting the showdown together. For the final conclusions, we're afraid you'll still have to buy the magazine, but for a rare chance to watch all these three world-beaters on the same road at the same time, you'll want to scope out this latest video clip. New details mooted about Porsche's '988' Ferrari rival

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

We could be on the verge of a big expansion at everyone's favorite rear-engined German sports car manufacturer. Porsche is allegedly preparing a four-car assault that will be led by a proper challenger to the Ferrari 458 Italia (sorry 911).
Code-named "988," the new model will reportedly feature a mid-engined layout and, get this: a flat-8. Autocar, which has the story, expects that engine to displace about 4.0 liters, while the car itself will draw styling inspiration from the 918 Spyder. 600 ponies and over 400 super-accessible pound-feet of torque should be on tap with the new mill.
Joining the 988's supposed eight-cylinder is a new family of four- and six-cylinder boxer engines that Autocar claims will have a focus on power density and fuel economy. These new mills will be available in naturally aspirated, turbocharged and hybrid forms.
