Porsche's latest Driver's Selection keeps enthusiasts happy at home

Porsche fans - and there are certainly plenty of them out there, even in here on the Autoblog editorial staff - can be pretty emphatic about their enthusiasm, insisting that the 911 is the very definition of the sportscar. And for some, merely admiring one from afar or even leaving theirs parked outside isn't enough. For just such enthusiats, Porsche Design has expanded its Driver's Selection with some tantalizing additions for the home and office.
First up is a desk chair made from the bucket seat in a 911 Carrera, which we have to admit we'd rather be sitting in right now over this blasted, rather unexciting ergonomic office chair. It's covered in black leather (the same you'd find inside an actual 911) embossed with the Porsche emblem and features electronic backrest adjustment.
There's also a wall shelf made from the carbon-fiber rear spoiler a 911 GT3 Cup racecar that can support up to 264 pounds of downforce in the form of books, trinkets and whathaveyou. And there's a limited-edition resin model of the 918 Spyder in 1:8 scale. The items haven't hit the Porsche shop just yet, so we don't have pricing information, but if they tickle your fancy, the online store has plenty more to offer.

Porsche Cayman GT4 storms Switzerland with 385 hp [w/video]

Much as we love the Porsche 911 in all its variants, there's definitely a case to be made for the smaller Cayman as the best-driving sports car in the company's lineup. We adore it in all forms, and most recently fell madly in love with the new Cayman GTS. But here at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche has unveiled a truly special, range-topping variant of its mid-engine coupe: the GT4. And after seeing it in person, we're pretty much head-over-heels in love. That's because the GT4 is the most hardcore variant of the Cayman yet, using a 385-horsepower version of Porsche's 3.8-liter flat-six, derived from the 911 Carrera S. It sends power to the rear wheels solely via a six-speed manual transmission with dynamic gearbox mounts, and we're told the hot new coupe will sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds – a full half-second quicker than the 340-hp Cayman GTS. Building upon that, the GT4 uses a host of chassis components from the potent 911 GT3, and offers further upgrades like ceramic brakes and carbon fiber bucket seats. This should make for one seriously track-worthy machine, and Porsche already says that the GT4 will run the Nurburgring in a scant 7:20 – the same time as the 2011 911 GT3. Recharge Wrap-up: 2015 Fuel Economy Guide available, how Porsche ships 919 Hybrid

The EPA and Department of Energy have released the 2015 Fuel Economy Guide. Unsurprisingly, the groups say that this year features more fuel efficient and low-emissions vehicles than previous years, and they span a greater variety of vehicle types. The guide also provides "best-in-class" lists, greenhouse gas ratings and estimated fuel costs for each vehicle. The EPA and DOE hope that car buyers will use the guide to help choose cars that are better for the environment and the climate. Check out the guide for yourself or read more in the press release below. To get from one WEC race to the next, Porsche ships its 919 Hybrid LMP1 cars by air. As the team travels around the world - from continent to continent - it must take 35 tons worth of cargo with it, including two LMP1 cars. That means draining fluids, partially dismantling the cars, and fitting everything into a 747. The team also ships items by sea, which requires shipping extra sets of items due to the longer shipping times. "It's all about efficiency," according to Porsche. Read more in the press release below. Terra Motors is unveiling the A4000i electric scooter, which it will sell in Europe, at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. The A4000i, which features smartphone connectivity, will be the company's European flagship model. Terra Motors will begin selling in Italy, and plans to make arrangements to sell in several more countries shortly after. Terra hopes to set up manufacturing in Europe, as well. The car will be used to study electric mobility, improvements in the driving experience and people's driving behavior and attitudes toward EVs.
