I recently got a birthday wish list from my 11-year-old nephew, and I couldn't help but smile when I saw “Lego Technic Cars” at the top. Lego isnÂ’t a phase, itÂ’s a lifestyle. Once a Lego fan, always a Lego fan. In fact, IÂ’d be willing to bet that many of you reading this right now have some kind of Lego vehicle in a box somewhere, or better yet, on display in your home. While theyÂ’re not necessarily cheap, getting into building Lego Technic vehicles doesnÂ’t have to bankrupt you, either, unless you go for the $400 Lamborghini right off the bat. At 544 pieces and made for ages 9 and up, the GT500 is a considerable step up from Grave Digger but a great starter to a Technic collection nonetheless. It isnÂ’t the most accurate-looking vehicle in this list, but the AR app and the fact that it can drive make it a worthwhile purchase. $39.99 at Amazon LEGO Technic Formula E Porsche 99X Electric Ages 9+ (422 Pieces) - $49.99 Not a Ford fan? Not a problem. This Formula E Porsche 99X is the same price and better looking than the GT500. Even though there are 122 fewer pieces in this Porsche set, it has a level of detail seen in much more expensive Technic sets including numerous decals and a pull back motor.  $49.99 at Amazon LEGO Technic Jeep Wrangler Ages 9+ (665 Pieces) - $54.99 This is the set I ended up going with for my nephew, not because I think it is the coolest, but because for the price, I think you get the most bang for your buck. 665 pieces is over 50% more than the comparatively priced Porsche 99X and it also scratches the nostalgia itch for me: The first-ever model vehicle I built was a yellow Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Porsche exec confirms Macan Diesel for US

The idea of a diesel-powered Porsche is the sort of thing that sounds really, really weird... until you actually drive it. The result of sticking glow plugs under the hood of Stuttgart's finest, though, is a vehicle that's nearly as entertaining as a gas-powered model but with much more torque and better fuel economy. Considering that, we think it's absolutely splendid news that following previous reports, Porsche has now confirmed a diesel-powered Macan for the US market.
"We are now busy with the development and the engineering," Andre Oosthuizen, Porsche's North American marketing VP, told Automotive News. "I can confirm that V6 diesel offering with about 245 horsepower."
Yep, that's the same 3.0-liter V6 found, most notably, in the CUV's Audi Q5 platform-mate as well as a plethora of other Volkswagen Group vehicles, both in the US and abroad. Stuttgart already offers the 3.0-liter oil-burner in the Euro-spec crossover, where it churns out 258 hp and 427 pound-feet of torque.

Porsche introduces Boxster and 911 Black Editions

In case choosing which Porsche to buy weren't challenging enough, the German automaker has announced a new special edition to make it even more so - particularly for people who like the murdered-out look. Called the Black Edition, it's being offered on the 911 and Boxster. As you might have guessed, the principal defining feature is the black on black color scheme, with metallic black paint available as an option. But it also comes bundled with otherwise optional equipment as standard. Both versions come from the factory with heated seats and auto-dimming mirrors as well as embossed headrests, unique sill plates and a Sport Design steering wheel. The 911 version also includes 20-inch wheels, dynamic LED headlights, front and rear Park Assist, reversing camera and Bose audio. It's based on the standard 3.4-liter model with 350 horsepower and is available in rear- or all-wheel drive and in coupe or carbio form. The Boxster Black Edition likewise starts out with the base 2.7-liter, 265-hp model, and upgrades with its own set of 20-inch wheels, wind deflector, bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control, navigation, upgraded audio and park assist. Porsche dealers in the US are now taking orders on the Black Editions, with deliveries set to commence at the end of July. Pricing range from $59,100 for the Boxster and $88,800 for the 911 Carrera, ratcheting all the way up to $104,600 for the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet (all prices excluding the $995 destination charge).
