Porsche Panamera Turbo sets new Nurburgring record

The new Porsche Panamera appears to be the complete package. The new four-door sedan is finally good looking, has copious amounts of power, and has even become the fastest sedan around the Nurburgring. Porsche set a time of 7 minutes, 38 seconds in a Panamera Turbo, which just barely bests the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio by a second. The new Panamera Turbo features a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that puts out 550 hp and 567 pound-feet of torque. That's enough to get the sedan from zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds (with the optional Sport Chrono package) on the way a top speed of 180 mph. The new record proves that the Panamera Turbo is quick around a grueling race track, as well. The Panamera Turbo's time around the Nurburgring puts it in the same breath as the Ferrari 458 Italia and Lexus LFA, while being an impressive 14 seconds faster than the previous Panamera. Evo pits BMW M3 against Porsche Macan in drag battle

If you want to move five passengers in very rapid fashion and you've got a $75,000 budget, two newly introduced four-door models immediately come to mind - both are the highest performing vehicles in their respective segments. But which is faster off the line, to the 60-mile-per-hour benchmark or flat-out over an even longer run? Evo took both to paved aircraft runway to find out.
In lane one we've got the all-new Porsche Macan Turbo, which boasts a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V6 rated at 400 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The Porsche is fitted with a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox, and the 4,244-pound crossover has the traction advantage of standard all-wheel drive. In lane two is the all-new BMW M3, powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. It is also equipped with a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox, but only the rear wheels of the 3,595-pound sedan are driven. Both the BMW and Porsche arrive with launch control, which helps to remove driver error off the line.

Porsche planning customer driving center at Le Mans

Porsche seems to be on a campaign to build driving centers for its customers to allow them to experience the capabilities of their cars on track. It has one under way in Los Angeles, another in development at its North American headquarters in Atlanta, and a British center set up at the Silverstone circuit. Now the latest reports indicate that Porsche is planning yet another driving center at Le Mans.
The new facility is earmarked to be built at the Circuit de la Sarthe right by the start/finish line, incorporating the Porsche Curves that bridge the Arnage corner and the Ford Chicanes on the West side of the famous track.
Porsche is reportedly still seeking approval from the Automobile Club de l'Ouest that manages the circuit, and once given the green light, would still take some time to complete. But the idea of driving a 911 flat out on the legendary track is likely to make more than a few mouths water, particularly as the German automaker prepares its full-on assault of the famous endurance race next year.
