This car is a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (Type 996). It features the desirable "Triple Black" (body, leather, top) color combo, 18" Carrera 5 spoke wheels, full leather option, Bi-Xenon HID projector headlamps, Porsche stability management (PSM), and the Bose premium audio system. It has the Porsche "Tequipment" Carbon Fiber gearshift and parking break lever. The LED foglights are aftermarket. A notable standard safety feature of the 996 Cabriolet is its automatically deploying rollover bar behind the rear seats, which combines with the reinforced windscreen frame to provide rollover protection similar to a hardtop. The paint has been touched up in a few places and the interior shows little sign of wear.

Although the car has done around 109k, the upgraded engine has many less miles -- about 5k. The original 3.6L M96 engine suffered the famous "scored cylinder" failure and was replaced with this rebuilt motor last year. The rebuild was done with the LN Engineering 3.8L kit, featuring LN's "Nickies" cylinder sleeves and forged overbore JE pistons. Internal parts were inspected and wear items (cam chains, guides, IMS bearing) were replaced. The larger engine produces more torque and power, pulling strongly in every gear. This upgraded motor should provide many fast, trouble-free miles in the future.

The car is also for sale locally, and seller reserves the right to end the auction early if sold.

Porsche expects to hit 200k sales target 3 years early

Fri, Jan 9 2015

When Porsche launched the Cayenne, enthusiasts and purists – in between fits of rage – rationalized the SUVs existence by imagining that the money it brought in would guarantee the company's continued ability to produce the many beloved versions of its 911. The same was said when the Panamera arrived, and again when the Macan was unveiled. What probably wasn't imagined when these three more mainstream vehicles joined the Porsche catalog, was how dramatic an impact they'd have on the company's sales figures. The company expects 2015 to be a banner year, as it aims to hit a 200,000-unit sales goal three years ahead of schedule. Porsche sold nearly 190,000 units in 2014, a gain of 17 percent over 2013, while its year-over-year sales for December were up 39 percent. Considering Porsche made these gains before the full impact of the new Macan could be felt, it's no wonder the company is so keen on 2015. Porsche has already moved 45,000 Macans, which would be impressive on its own, were it not for the way the CUV is elevating the brand. According to a report from Reuters, two-thirds of the company's Macan deliveries have been to first-time Porsche customers. Considering these two facts, it will be extremely interesting to see the impact Porsche's newest model has on its sales over a full calendar year.

Porsche planning jacked-up 911 Safari? [w/poll]

Thu, 26 Dec 2013

The Porsche 911 may, for some, be the quintessential sportscar. And that typically means keeping it on paved roads and racing circuits. But there's a proud history to taking the Elfen off-road that traces back to specially-prepared 911s (like the one pictured above) which Porsche fielded in rallies in the late '70s and early '80s. And now Porsche is reportedly preparing to tap back into that history with a new off-road 911 model, according to the Auto Bild Motor Revue.
Tipped to be called the 911 Safari, the special variant would be based on the Carrera 4 but upgrade with bigger tires fitted to a beefed-up suspension with higher ground clearance and underbody skid plates. The model is expected to be presented initially as a concept at the Beijing Motor Show next April. But if enough interest is expressed - particularly from buyers in developing markets where the roads might not be as smooth as those to which North American and European drivers have become accustomed - Stuttgart could put it into production in 2016, when the current 991 is expected to get a mid-cycle refresh.

Take a POV hot lap in the Porsche 918 Spyder

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

That title about says it all. This is a hot lap of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, with Porsche Works Driver Patrick Long at the wheel of a Porsche 918 Spyder. The camera is basically showing us everything that Long sees, making this not just one of the coolest 918 videos we've seen, but also one of the neatest laps of CoTA.
As Long peers through the bends, so will you. You'll see him fight the wheel, and find out just how difficult it is to hustle this hybrid hypercar around a world-class track at speed. It's pretty darn entertaining. There are also a few scattered shots of the 918's exterior just to break up the interior awesomeness, although we aren't exactly complaining about those. Take a look below for the short video from Porsche.
