Selling my 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. No accidents and a spotless CarFax. 3.6L (320HP) engine. I bought it from a Doctor who owned it for most of its life in NC (since 18k miles). It now has 118k miles and runs smooth and strong. Arctic Silver Metallic exterior with black fabric top. Beautiful two-tone deep red and black interior. 6-speed manual transmission. Interior and exterior in very good condition. Wheels are all in mint condition (like new with no curb rash) and tires have good tread remaining. Fresh oil change with Mobile 1 and new air filter and cabin filter last month. Convertible top works perfectly and in very good condition. Porsche option packages on this car include: Bose Stereo Premium Audio Pkg with Remote CD Changer, 18 Light Alloy Carrera Sport Wheel Pkg, Xenon Headlamp Pkg, Dual Power Seat Pkg, Full Custom Leather Interior Pkg, Wheel Caps with Porsche Crests.

For those new to Porsche: This generation of 911 is referred to as the 996 body style and was produced from 1999-2004. The early cars (1999-2001) all had a 3.4L engine producing just under 300HP. In 2002, Porsche upgraded the engine to a 3.6L producing 320HP! My car has this upgraded engine. In 2003 and 2004, the 996 cars still had the 3.6L engine, but power was unexplainably down a little to 315HP. So the 2002 model is definitely the one to own, and is the reason I sought this car out when I bought it.

This convertible is ready for summer and great fun to drive. Current KBB pricing with the options included and current mileage is $26,006 in excellent condition and $25,306 in very good condition. I consider my car in very good condition and have priced it below this KBB value. I have the clear NC title in hand with no lien holders. I am located in Huntersville, NC just north of Charlotte and close to I-77. Thanks for looking.

Shipping: Shipping arrangements are responsibility of buyer, but I will assist in any way possible.

Payment: $500 PayPal deposit required within 48 hours of auction close. Balance due by Bank Certified Funds.

Meet the man that discovered and restored the oldest existing Porsche

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

Luciano Rupolo is an absolutely fascinating gentleman. He was born in France but spent nearly his entire life in Italy as an auto mechanic running his own shop. His grandfather and father instilled a love of sports cars in him that he carried on by historic racing in Italy for decades. He saw his life-long automotive passion repaid when he found and restored the car that might have been the first Porsche registered for the road.
You can spot in his garage a split-window Corvette, Ferrari 250 GTE and other exotics, but Rupolo's most interesting automotive story concerns his Iso Grifo Competizione (pictured above). The sports coupe was found in the Canary Islands as little more than a shell, but Rupolo got help from a prestigious source for its restoration. The result is a motoring masterpiece.
Rupolo is a fantastic storyteller with a captivating, tale to tell. Settle in, scroll down and watch the bittersweet documentary about his life with one of the first Porsches.

Porsche's 959 is still poster-worthy after all these years

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Today, we have the Porsche 918 Spyder. Before that, there was the Carrera GT. While both of those cars are dramatic departures from the traditional, rear-engine Porsche formula, they owe their very existence to another wild child of the iconic German brand - the 959.
Like so many of the great performance cars of yesteryear, the 959 was a homologation special, built just so Porsche could go racing in the clinically insane Group B rally series. Fewer than 400 959s hit the streets, but those that did were some of the most advanced cars of the 1980s. A rear-mounted, twin-turbocharged flat-six sent its power through a still-rare all-wheel-drive system, creating a race-inspired rocket that was, for a short time, the fastest production car on the planet.
Xcar has the story of the 959, from its inception to its conquest of the Paris-Dakar rally, which is interspersed with a drive of the legendary coupe. Scroll down for the full video.

Updated J.D. Power APEAL study shines on VW Group, Chevy

Wed, 24 Jul 2013

J.D. Power has just revealed the results of its 2013 APEAL Study, which looks at which brands have the most appealing cars based on sales figures, dealer inventory, brand loyalty, transaction and trade-in prices. The study was revamped for 2013, and places a larger focus on the new tech and infotainment options available to customers. All told, study participants gauged their vehicles on 77 different attributes, delivering a score out of a 1,000 points.
The Volkswagen Group had the greatest success of any corporation, topping the APEAL rankings with the Audi Allroad, Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayenne, VW GTI and Passat. Chevrolet had the highest number of awards for a single brand, though, with the Avalanche, Sonic and Volt all taking home a prize.
The best brand overall was Porsche, which scored 884 out of a possible 1,000 points. The top Japanese brand was Lexus with a score of 847, while the top American brand was Cadillac, at 841. The best mainstream brand was Ram, which received a very respectable 817. The industry average for this year's study was 795, with 16 brands, all of which were mainstream, falling below the average.
