You are bidding on a 2001 Porsche 911 C2 with just over 105,000 miles. Overall, this car is in fine condition except for one major problem - it is leaking coolant into cylinder 2. Presumably this is due to either a blown head gasket or a cracked block. However, the car does run and can be driven short distances. Also, the leather on the left rear seat bottom cushion has cracked, but that can be easily replaced. Additionally, there is some chipping on the front bumper and the front edge of the hood.

Otherwise, the car is in good shape. The six-speed manual shifts well, the A/C blows cold, and it was fun to drive (until the problem with the engine). While it has a CD changer, I added an MP3/iPhone input which required disabling the CD changer. The CD changer is still in the trunk and should work, but I haven't used it. All four tires are new-ish and only have about 4400 miles on them.

This car lived in California until I bought it in Feb 2011. I used it as a daily driver until the problem with the engine. As long as the engine is fixed or replaced this can be a fine car for someone else. If you're lucky the problem may just be the head gasket - in that case know that the car has not been burning any oil, although both valve cover gaskets have very minor leaks. However, if you plan on bidding on this car, price your bid as if the engine needs to be replaced, for as far as I know that is the case.

This car can be driven in its current condition, but I would not drive it far. If you live in the Dayton, Ohio metro area you ought to be able to drive it home; otherwise you should have it towed or shipped.

While this car has a clean title, there is a lien on it; however the reserve price will be enough to pay the lien, so obtaining clear title will not be a problem. If you are the winning bidder and meet me at the credit union in Dayton, Ohio with cash in hand, the credit union will give you the title then and there. Otherwise they will transfer the title once the funds clear.

The pre-race and first in-race report from Le Mans

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

The 2013, 90th anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun, tragedy marking the opening laps with the death of Allan Simonsen. We're at the track now as a guest of Audi and plan to stay through the evening, and even we haven't been able to find out what caused the accident - the only video is from just after the incident, and beyond the statement from ACO there's been no more news. The Aston Martin in the LM GTE Am class and its all-Danish drivers had taken pole in its class and was one of the favorites to win.
The pre-race report will come first, and even thought we can't spoil the race because we're only five hours into it at the time of writing, we'll put all of the news at the end in case you don't even want the updates.
Or you can go straight to the high-res galleries above.

Son of Porsche 911 designer recalls 1963 Frankfurt debut

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

The Goodwood Revival is described by its presenters as the greatest motorsport racing party of the year. We often focus heavily on the motorsports, but you can't forget about the party. For the first preview of the new 911 Turbo in the UK, Porsche recreated its booth from the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963 - the time and place of the original 911's public debut.
Porsche's cameras also caught up with Mark Porsche, the great grandson of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche and son of the late Ferdinand Alexander "Butzi" Porsche, who oversaw the design of the 911. Mark Porsche admires the 911's friendly design, which is set off by the round headlights, and says his mother, who was at the original Frankfurt booth in 1963, was milling around the booth at Goodwood - no doubt taking a trip down memory lane.
