You are bidding on a very nice, increasingly rare 1996 Polar Silver Metallic 993 Porsche 911 Carrera with only 36,199 miles. This car is factory original, clean and in excellent running condition.  The reserve price is set at a very reasonable level.  I reserve the right to end this listing at any time prior to the reserve price being met.

History of the vehicle - I purchased the car in South Florida where (it is my understanding), the car was originally acquired by its primary owner in 1995/96 up until a few years ago when he transferred title to his family in Georgia.  I can tell the original owner cared for this car as it has been well kept.  The family sold the car to an auction house and was subsequently purchased by a Miami dealer and sold to me in 2012.  The reason I am selling the car is simply because I don't drive it enough to justify the vehicle storage which is limited at my home.

Maintenance - The car is stored in a climate controlled garage and has never seen snow or ice.  According to a relative of the original owner, the car was maintained by a Porsch facility in Miami.  I spoke to the mechanic that maintained the car and he remembers the car and its owner.  He stated that the original owner was meticulous about the maintenance of this vehicle and verbally gave an overview of the regular services preformed.  He could not release the service records since they included personal information on the owner.  I also had the car inspected  by another Porsche shop in Miami and it checked out.  Since I do not possess the maintenance records, I took the car to a local Porsche dealer/service center this summer and had an inspection done as well as the extensive 30,000 mile recommended maintenance (per the manual),  just in case it did not get done previously.  I also had new Michelin tires installed. I will include the receipts for the recent service and new tires to the new owner.  Also included is the original owners manual, 2 keys with fobs, spare tire and wheel lock.

Overall the car is beautiful, runs strong and there are no mechanical issues that I am aware of.  The interior of this car is in excellent condition.  The paint color (Polar Silver), is really nice and still shiny but has normal wear and tear as the car has been driven for 18 years.  There are some small blemishes and stone chips in the paint only noticiable up close and obtained in the normal course of driving.

Shipping - Buyer is responsible for the cost and arrangement of shipping.

Payment - A $2,000 deposit is due 48 hours after the auction ends with the remainder due within 7 days of the auction ending in the form of a bank cashiers check.  Once full payment has been received and cleared, the title and keys will be sent and the car can be picked up.

THIS VEHICLE IS BEING SOLD AS IS WHERE IS WITHOUT WARRANY OF ANY KIND.

Serious buyers only are welcome and encouraged to inspect the car in person before bidding.

Thanks for your interest.

U.S. tariff threat hits European automakers' stocks

Thu, May 24 2018

FRANKFURT, Germany — A U.S. warning that it may introduce tariffs on foreign auto imports hit shares in German carmakers BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen on Thursday, which together have a more than 90 percent share of North America's premium car market. Washington said on Wednesday it had launched an investigation into whether car and truck imports are a national security issue due to signs they had damaged the U.S. auto industry. That could lead to new U.S. tariffs — up to 25 percent — similar to those imposed on imported steel and aluminum in March. BMW and Daimler shares fell as much as 3.1 percent in early Thursday trading, while Volkswagen's dropped as much as 2.5 percent. "(U.S. President) Donald Trump is obviously not thinking about how to prevent a trade war. Import duties on cars would be a nightmare for the German auto industry and would lead to a massive sales impact," said Thomas Altmann at Frankfurt-based asset manager QC Partners. BMW on Thursday condemned the move to consider tariffs. "The BMW Group is committed to free trade worldwide. Barrier-free access to markets is therefore a key factor not only for our business model, but also for growth welfare and employment throughout the global economy," it said. Daimler, which makes Mercedes-Benz cars, and Volkswagen, which makes upmarket Audis and Porsches, were not immediately available for comment. German carmakers produced 804,000 cars at local factories in the United States and exported 657,000 German-made cars into North America last year, according to German auto industry association VDA. China took pains on Thursday to welcome German firms and investments, with Premier Li Keqiang talking up relations after a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. BMW and Mercedes have expanded production capacity in the United States, but BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Daimler have also invested billions to build new factories in Mexico in the hope of selling locally produced cars into the United States. German carmakers hiked vehicle production in Mexico by 46 percent to 620,000 cars last year, while production levels inside the United States fell by 6 percent to 804,000 cars because of a shift to Mexico, according to the VDA. BMW has its biggest factory worldwide in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and is the largest vehicle exporter among all the carmakers in the United States measured by value of goods exported. More than 70 percent of BMW's U.S.-made cars are exported.

The Volkswagen Group switches official language to English

Wed, Dec 14 2016

The Volkswagen Group can't be fairly thought of as entirely German anymore, so the news that the company is switching its official language to English to help attract managers and executives is a rational, if surprising, decision. While many VW Group companies are still staidly German in character and culture, consider the other companies that it controls: Bentley (British), Bugatti (French), Ducati and Lamborghini (Italian), Skoda (Czech), Scania trucks (Swedish), and SEAT (Spanish). Not to mention the large Volkswagen Group of America operation, which constructs cars in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen's explicit motivation is to improve management recruitment – making sure the company isn't losing out on candidates for important positions because they can't speak German – and that's inherently sensible in a globalized economy. Particularly considering, like it or lump it, that English is the lingua franca of said global economy. It also should make it inherently easier to communicate between its world-wide subsidiaries and coordinate operations. It's hard to say for sure if this will have any impact on the consumer, although it's easy to see the benefits if, say, VW Group hires some American product planners or engineers and they push for features and designs that more closely suit American needs. After all, the US is a hugely important market for any manufacturer, and so the switch to English almost certainly has something to do with the outsized influence of the US in the global economy. And there doesn't seem to be a downside from a purely rational perspective, although it could mean that the Group's corporate culture becomes less German. Whether that's a good or a bad thing depends on your perspective. Porsche 918 Spyder configurator goes live

Fri, 13 Sep 2013

That didn't take long. The debut model of the new Porsche 918 Spyder is still thronged by onlookers at the Frankfurt Motor Show, while the German sports car maker is hard at work putting the first version of the supercar's configuration page online. Considering Porsche configurators are some of our favorite time-wasters of the genre, we expect car-guy productivity to drop by a few percentage points over the rest of the day.
So, the 918 dream-maker doesn't list and prices as yet, and that's too bad. But considering the car is due to start off at $845,000 in the US, chances are good that unless you're reading this from the shallow end of your Uncle Scrooge-spec money pool, the cost of any part of the 918 is academic to you anyway.
To start, Porsche is offering twelve paint colors, three wheel choices and seven two-tone interior treatments. Standard lightweight bucket seats and a set of chairs with "firmer padding" are on offer, too. The options list is mostly populated with interior bits, though many - an anti-reflection interior, fire extinguisher, six-point seatbelts - are racing-oriented or functional. Note that Porsche is also kind enough to offer just one cupholder as an optional extra; the unit is made of aluminum and is detachable so that you won't have to carry the extra weight during racing. Also, Porsche probably puts you on some kind of naughty 'list' if you order one...
