I am the original owner of this car and I never thought I would sell it.  New family has changed that.

1-owner 1995 Porsche 993 Carrera 4 for sale.  Vin:  WP0AA2998SS322021
It passed smog with flying colors and has a clean California title, title in hand. AutoCheck (same as CarFax) and recent PPI is available upon request.   A detailed description is for you below.

Car has 70,950 miles, in classic Polar Silver over black leather.  6-speed.  Four-way electric seats, automatic speed control, sunroof.  Car was originally purchased in California (San Diego) and had most of its miles in Los Angeles.  Car went to NY a few years ago and was a weekend driver, around 1000 miles / year.  Garaged (of course).  To give you an idea, the car had its 60,000 mile service (with 64,000 miles) in 2007.  A photo of the service paperwork is included in the gallery link below.  Car was shipped back to California (Los Angeles) in December and is garaged in Venice Beach.

The Good:
This 993 is in beautiful shape and has been dealer maintained until January where it is being attended to by Claudio of Foreign Sports Technicians, a master mechanic of air-cooled Porsches in Santa Monica.  He describes the car as very solid and very very strong.  It's fully stock and unmodified except for the stereo system and speakers (I've kept the originals and no holes were drilled, original wiring harness is uncut).  Car has had a new clutch (under 12k miles), distributor service, new alternator, new belts, new fan belt sensor, the oil-filler pipe had a leak that has been fixed, passenger headlight fixed.   Engine has not been steam cleaned so you can clearly see the work.  DME relays replaced, wiring contacts for rear spoiler motor repaired. New tires (less than 800 miles on them) and new alignment.  If you live in CA, registration is paid until 02/2014.  AC is cold.  All trunk shocks and deck-lid shocks were replaced (isn't that a treat). Visor clips replaced. Sun roof seals replaced.  Engine has 3 small drip-free leaks, common even in cars that have 6,000 miles on them (check the comments on the PPI, it's in good shape and they're over the timing chain cover).  Inflation kit, jack and tool kit are all intact.  The interior is absolutely amazing and looks brand new.  All "must do now" repairs have been completed as best as I know. And yes, the sunroof pulls fast and does not leak.  Photograph of option sticker is at the link below.

1995 Porsches are OBD-1 cars and therefore do not have the carbon build-up issues that require later 993s to have top-end rebuilds before passing smog.  That's around $8k that you don't have to deal with.  This car does not have the engine-light problem that the later cars have.

Reserve has been adjusted for the following:
Everyone is pretty clear on the value of these cars.  1-owner 993 with 70,000 miles goes for between $38,000 and $41,000 miles depending on its options, color and paint shape.  The reserve on this car has been adjusted for the following finds: The PPI has revealed a leak in the front oil cooler as well as a leak in the rack and pinion steering that will need repair at some point (no drips on the garage from them).  As well, I used insurance to pay for paint repair on a scrape up around 2008 which reports on the AutoCheck / CarFax.  Hint of paint repair and a tiny bit of overspray is visible on the driver's bumper / fender (please see photos).  There are 4-5 small paint chips in the driver's door (though no door dings).  There is a very small half-moon on the passenger's side windshield that is barely visible (even hard to photograph). As with nearly ALL air-cooled 911s, the door strap latch is broken and it's up to the owner if this bothers them. The driver's front-seat-height switch only goes up, I have the replacement switch (cost $100) which simply needs to be installed. There is a seal around the driver's door which has worn though it does not leak (check detail in photos, cost is $35). The passenger window switch works intermittently ($30).  I would suggest changing the battery.  Though it is very new, I think that it's best to change it considering the new alternator (per Claudio).  There is a small dime-sized rip in the stick shift boot which happens on all of these cars from putting them in reverse.

I ENCOURAGE you to contact the mechanics who have seen this car personally and ask about it.  Really though, if you see the car in person and test drive it, you will get it.  It's impressive in real life. Even smells fantastic.  It's a beautiful, guilt-free daily driver.

Car was recently featured in "GoPro's Photo of the Day" twice and is being considered to be included in Porsche's book about the 50th anniversary of the 911.

I live in NYC and the sale is being handled by my family who lives in Venice Beach where the car is stored.  He knows the car as well as I do and we're both available to give you details.  He works very long hours so we would appreciate serious inquiries only.

There is a gallery of around 70 high quality photographs below, including details of bumper scratches and the underside of the car.

Will be happy to see this go to another air-cooled aficionado!

Ferrari 458 Speciale vs Porsche 911 GT3 shows what Chris Harris does best

Thu, Nov 27 2014

After a brief trip behind a pay wall, British auto journalist Chris Harris is back posting videos for free online, and shorts like this one are the perfect example of why his return is so welcome. Showing up at the damp Anglesey Circuit on the Welsh coast with the Ferrari 458 Speciale and Porsche 911 GT3, Harris ostensibly aims to find the better model. However, the final result really succeeds in showcasing the fun to be had behind the wheels of both supercars, particularly when initiating huge slides around the track. As Harris presents it, the vehicles get through the circuit in somewhat different ways The Ferrari is brash and "feels alive," as he puts it as it screams around the track. Alternatively, the Porsche is a bit more restrained, while still being able to show some emotion. In the end, it comes down to trying to get a controlled lap around Anglesey from this duo, but it's pretty clear that the times don't tell the whole story. If you're in the mood to watch two of the world's premiere supercars wag their tails in the wet, then this video cannot be missed.

Man arrested for stealing part of Paul Walker Porsche wreck

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

Humans are odd creatures. Some of us collect things associated with bad events, particularly when it comes to cars. Your author, for example, has the grille of his wrecked 2004 Mini Cooper S hanging on the wall. As a more extreme example, an 18-year-old Californian is in trouble with the LA police, but not for taking an item from his own car accident. Instead, he has been arrested for stealing from the wreck of the Porsche Carrera GT that killed actor Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas.
And it wasn't a small piece, either. It was the Carrera GT's carbon-fiber roof panel. Making matters worse is word that the theft happened while the tow truck that was hauling the wrecked Porsche was sitting in traffic. According to the LA Sheriff's Department report, "A witness saw a male exit a vehicle that was following the tow truck. The male grabbed a piece of the wrecked Porsche off the tow truck bed." Besides the eyewitnesses, it didn't help that images of the roof panel were later posted on Instagram.
The man, Jameson Witty, was later arrested at his home, where police also found the roof panel. The driver of the car Witty was in when he took the roof panel, meanwhile, is planning on surrendering to the police, according to CNN. It remains unclear if the district attorney's office will charge the two, although if it does, they'll be facing felony grand theft and tampering with evidence.

Paul Walker's accident due to 'speed, and speed alone'

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

Following an investigation into the crash that killed Fast and Furious star Paul Walker and driver Roger Rodas, an unnamed law enforcement source told the Associated Press that there were no signs of mechanical failure on the Porsche Carrera GT that was destroyed in the accident.
The report from The Huffington Post claims the officer in question blamed "speed, and speed alone" in the fatal accident. The same report ruled out the presence of debris in the road, which may have caused Rodas to lose control of the V10-powered super car.
Engineers from Porsche are traveling to California to investigate the accident with the help of the Carrera GT's on-board data recorder. Until then, investigators won't speculate on the car's speed at the time of the wreck.
