2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS looks even better in the flesh [w/video]

You should never, ever, ever buy a new Porsche 911 GT3 when it first comes out. That's not to say it's somehow bad. It's just that the debut of a new GT3 is, almost without fail, followed by a GT3 RS. GT3: good. GT3 RS: better. This is the latest hot 911, and it comes out shooting with a 4.0-liter flat-six, complete with 500 horsepower and 338 pound-feet of torque. As we explained earlier this morning, sitting behind the wheel of the GT3 RS means 60 miles per hour is just 3.1 seconds away. That is, frankly, a hilariously fast time for a rear-drive, naturally aspirated vehicle with just 500 hp. Consider the new Ferrari 488 GTB, if you will – it has an extra 160 horsepower, (probably) two turbochargers and two more cylinders, and it's only a tenth of a second faster to 62 than the Porsche is to 60. Any Porsche worth its salt will be as rapid in the corners as it is on the straights, and the GT3 RS is no different. It managed to trim five seconds off the standard GT3's Nurburgring time, thanks in part to Porsche's dedication to weight reduction. It's down 22 pounds on the standard car, thanks to magnesium and carbon fiber components. On top of that, Porsche pushed the aerodynamics with a track-ready rear wing and a fairly substantial front splitter. Of course, you know all of this, because we covered it this morning. The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is an annual celebration of the beautiful, old cars that grace Monterey Car Week. But Monterey – and Pebble – features lots of newer metal, too, and that includes the concept lawn at Pebble Beach. Now, "concept lawn" isn't a totally accurate name anymore, and you'll see why in the list below. This year especially, plenty of production cars can be found in the area once reserved for the conceptual. Still, we're happy to see them. Investigators blame speed in fatal Paul Walker crash

When the tragic news first came in that actor Paul Walker had been killed in a car crash, family, friends and fans were left searching for answers. They now have at least one key question answered, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department blaming "unsafe speed" for the fatal accident.
According to a statement released by the LACSD, "Investigators determined the cause of the fatal solo-vehicle collision was unsafe speed for the roadway conditions". The investigation into the November, 2013 crash determined that Walker's 2005 Porsche Carrera GT had been driven by his business partner and racer, Roger Rodas, at speeds between 80 and 93 miles per hour - less than the 100+ mph initially suspected, but still far too fast for the road on which they were traveling, which carried a posted limit of 45 mph.
In the investigation into the death of the Fast & Furious star and his friend, some people were quick to finger the Porsche in which they were riding as the culprit. The Carrera GT does, after all, have the reputation of being a notoriously difficult car to control. But after an exhaustive investigation, law enforcement officials in California have vindicated the car and dismissed any mechanical fault as the cause of the accident.
