I am selling my 1986 911 Black on Black, Tail Free, Carrera Coupe with Factory Sport Seats.  This car is very solid and comes with one of the most complete and extensive service histories you will find (back to 1989).   In the past 4-5 years, nearly all major components have either been rebuild or refurbished to a very high standard.  This includes an engine out top end rebuild with a clutch replacement (40K miles ago), as well as a full front and rear suspension rebuild.  Comes with all of the books and a relatively complete tool kit.  This is an extraordinarily clean mid-80's era 911.

The longest ownership (15 years) was by an extremely anal PCA member who used the car for daily commuting.  If there was ever anything that was not perfect on the car, he had it replaced or repaired.  I have the book of service receipts to prove that.  There are over 30K in receipts for the last few years alone.  This car was fastidiously and lovingly cared for all of its life.  Please do not let the milage dissuade you.  I've driven cars with less than half the miles of this car, and they are no where near as good.  No squeaks, whistles, rattles or odd noises.  I have used it as my daily driver for a year, and it has been strong and trouble free.  You have to drive this car to appreciate it.

The Good:
  • Paint and body is is 8.5/10
  • Interior is clean with beautiful carpets and panels.  No rips or blemishes.
  • Excellent leather seats with some minor scuffing on the drivers bolsters
  • Perfect dash with no cracks
  • Factory Sport Seats
  • All electrical systems are perfect
  • New fans (rear aux fan and front a/c condenser fan)
  • AC is in excellent working order and has had an R134 conversion
  • No terrible modifications (comes with a performance chip, stock chip was retained)
  • New front torsion bars and components
  • Recent rear suspension rebuild
  • Engine overhauled by 40K miles ago excellent shop (Taylor Chapman)
  • Original Fuchs (no blemishes)
  • New windshield
  • 86 Cars had the updated ventilation system for better AC air flow
Not as goods: (see below for description)
  • 1st gear synchro (all others are great, see below for description)
  • Small rust spot under battery tray (not into suspension)
  • Non original stereo (blaupunkt single cd in dash)
  • Minor paint chips and a small ripple at the bottom of passenger door
  • Some stitching out of steering wheel
Disclosures and explanations:

I hope to represent the car as honestly as possible without too much hyperbole.  It is not a perfect car with zero miles.  The first gear issue is as follows:  When coming to a stop, do not put the trans into first gear until you have come to a complete stop.  That's it.  The paint overall is really nice, but under the lights and on the hood are a a few small chips.  You really have to look closely.  As shown in the pictures, the top of the steering wheel is missing some stitching.  The leather is excellent otherwise, and these stitches don't seem to actually do very much.  Please ask questions.  I don't want anyone to feel as though I didn't represent the car as well as possible.  Great drivers are hard to come by and this one should not be missed.  A great modern feel in a very classic 911 form.

The Volkswagen Group switches official language to English

    Wed, Dec 14 2016

The Volkswagen Group can't be fairly thought of as entirely German anymore, so the news that the company is switching its official language to English to help attract managers and executives is a rational, if surprising, decision. While many VW Group companies are still staidly German in character and culture, consider the other companies that it controls: Bentley (British), Bugatti (French), Ducati and Lamborghini (Italian), Skoda (Czech), Scania trucks (Swedish), and SEAT (Spanish). Not to mention the large Volkswagen Group of America operation, which constructs cars in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen's explicit motivation is to improve management recruitment – making sure the company isn't losing out on candidates for important positions because they can't speak German – and that's inherently sensible in a globalized economy. Particularly considering, like it or lump it, that English is the lingua franca of said global economy. It also should make it inherently easier to communicate between its world-wide subsidiaries and coordinate operations. It's hard to say for sure if this will have any impact on the consumer, although it's easy to see the benefits if, say, VW Group hires some American product planners or engineers and they push for features and designs that more closely suit American needs. After all, the US is a hugely important market for any manufacturer, and so the switch to English almost certainly has something to do with the outsized influence of the US in the global economy. And there doesn't seem to be a downside from a purely rational perspective, although it could mean that the Group's corporate culture becomes less German. Whether that's a good or a bad thing depends on your perspective. Driving the million-mile Porsche 356

    Fri, 30 Aug 2013

Maybe you've seen or heard about the Porsche 356 with almost one-million miles (though it doesn't look like it), but Petrolicious finally has produced a video to show us what it's like to drive the 982,000-mile car. Guy Newmark's beautiful, dark-blue 1964 356C looks great in motion - much better than in photos - and serves to remind us not only what meticulous car care can do for old classics, but that old Porsches were built to last.
So how fastidious is Newmark about maintaining it? He takes the car to his mechanic of 40 years every 3,000 miles for an oil change and to fix anything that needs attention.
Newmark says his 356 "is everything you could want," and that he finds errands to do just to go drive it. We would, too. The next-best thing is to watch the inspiring video below of the well-traveled Porsche.

Best sport sedans for 2022 and 2023

    Thu, Nov 11 2021

SUVs dominate the car industry at every size and price level, but some people still prefer the looks, and more importantly, the performance and comfort, of the traditional sedan. With a lower ride height, lighter weight and generally smaller size, they often are much more fun to drive, and can even be more comfortable. Sport sedans of course lean harder on the performance side of things, and are among the best options for sheer speed and fun, thanks to those inherent characteristics. We've rounded up the ones in the segment that do the sporty dance better than any others in 2024 to give you a handy guide when you're shopping for one of your own. You'll find a wide array of cars here including gas, electric and hybrid powertrains. They'll have manual and automatic transmissions and drive the front, rear or all four wheels. Technically a few hatchbacks have slipped in, but they're close enough in look and feel that we wanted to include them. And excluding them means you might miss out on some of the best-driving options available. You wouldn't want that, would you? Alfa Romeo Giulia Why it stands out: Punchy four-cylinder; astounding power from Quadrifoglio; light and nimble character; awesome shift paddlesCould be better: Clunky infotainment; sub-par switchgear Read our Alfa Romeo Giulia review We start this list with one of the most predictable inclusions: the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Yes, it's a stereotype that the Italian sport sedan is fun to drive, but the fact is, well, it is. The Giulia comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 280 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful four-cylinders in the segment. It's paired with a snappy and smooth eight-speed transmission and either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.  The engine is lively and torquey, if a little short of revs, and the chassis feels super-light. The steering is eager and the car jumps into corners. We also highly recommend getting a version with the enormous and superb aluminum paddle shifters that make clicking through gears much more entertaining. And on the topic of the interior, it's attractive, but the various switches and knobs feels a little cheap, and the infotainment system is clunky. Of course there's also the incredible Giulia Quadrifoglio at the high end. It gets a Ferrari-derived twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 making 505 hp, and it's rear-wheel drive only.
