This is a 1984 Sunroof Carrera, 5 speed
brought to you in the rare and desirable color of Rubinrot (Ruby Red) over beige/tan leather interior. The car
(which I named “Emma”) has 175,755 miles. She is an original Northern California car that, other than a five
year stint in Arizona, has remained in California ever since. According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
(which is included with the car) Emma was “born” on 12/01/1983 and delivered to Martin Johnson Porsche Audi in
Oakland, Ca where she was sold to the original owner on 01/17/84.
I have a 2” thick binder (which will be included with the car) filled with interesting history and service
records dating back to the mid-90s. It is fascinating that every owner added to the binder, with their
improvements. It even has all the bill of sales from each title transfer. It’s interesting to see the value
increase with every sale.
The original owner sold the car in the late 90s with 97,881 miles. In the past 2 decades, Emma has gone through the
hands of 5 owners, each a care-taker of this beautiful ride and improving on it’s condition. The binder clearly
shows what each owner did to ensure that this car was reliable, functional, well maintained and most of all, a
blast to drive! Each care-taker made their improvement, enjoyed the car, then passed it on to the next care-taker.
The majority of the paint is original but there was spot painting in 2007. According to the receipt, this included
the front bumper and spoiler as well as the drivers door and right side quarter panel. The paint shows very well
considering it’s age but there are some scratches on the passenger door as well as some minor chips elsewhere as
would be expected on a car of this age. However the shine is great and the clear-coat is solid. The silver
“CARRERA" decals complement the silver spoked Fuchs wheels very nicely!
Here are some enhancements that the car has received over the years:
Lowered to European specs and a performance alignment. (Handles great!)
After-market oil cooler. (Runs about 1/3 the way up the temp gauge.)
After-market stereo is just so-so sounding.
It has “Turbo tie-rod ends” and a bump-steer kit.
After-market shifter bushings and a Weitmeister short shift kit, but the shifting feel is just so-so. (In my
opinion.)
After-market upgraded AC system that blows VERY cold! (This was install 11,000 miles ago, by the Arizona owner.)
Here is a brief list of repairs done in the past 50K miles or so, and associated odometer readings and costs:
Chain tensioners and misc. 120366 $1,348
F&R struts inserts and housings. 125914 $2,110
“Major service” and misc. 128604 $1,452
New clutch kit and misc. 135050 $1,893
CV Joints, sway bar link 141371 $1,399
“Major service” and misc. 142643 $1,185
Rebuilt rack and new wheel bearings 160*** +/- ??
The seats and carpet were replaced with new proper materials, back in 2007. (They look nearly mint condition!) The
headliner is perfect.
When I bought the car, it had a sport exhaust on it that was installed by the previous owner in Arizona. In order
to pass smog in CA, I had to put it back to stock, with new CATS. I bought the car with 173K miles and here is what
I’ve done in the past 3K miles:
All new exhaust including new catalytic converters
Front and rear brake pads
New deck lid gas strut
New plugs
New cap and rotor
New hood gas strut
Oil change with Swepco 20/50 (Twice)
New o-ring, vent hose and oil pressure switch (To eliminate minor leaks.)
After the above service, I drove it to the smog shop to get it smogged. The technician commented that there was
something wrong. When I asked him what it was, he mentioned that the emissions seemed impossibly low. (See picture)
I guess that’s what you get with new CATS and a complete tune-up!
All gauges and lights work. Sunroof and power windows work nice and smooth. Tires have about 60-70% tread left. As
mentioned above, the brake pads are essentially new, front and rear. Things that don’t work or need attention:
The clock doesn’t work.
I get an occasional grind into first gear. (Or maybe it’s into second gear??)
Cruise control doesn’t seem to work. (Or I don’t know what I am doing?)
I can let this car set for 2-3 months and just turn the key and it starts, idles, runs and drives flawlessly. Oil
temp stays cool and oil pressure is great. Bottom line: this is a well sorted, reliable and fun car to drive!

Porsche Cayenne, Panamera production halted by flooding

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

If you recently ordered a Porsche Cayenne or a Panamera, delivery may take a little longer than originally expected. Automotive News reports that production of both models has been temporarily halted at the Porsche assembly plant in Leipzig, Germany as the result of supply shortages caused by flooding in the nearby Czech Republic. The reason for the stoppage is that the body of the Cayenne - currently Porsche's best-selling model - is produced at a Volkswagen plant in the Czech city of Bratislava and shipped by train to Leipzig.
The report does not indicate why Panamera production has been stopped - that the five-door's body is made at a separate location in Hanover, Germany. However pre-assembly will continue on these models. At full capacity, the Leipzig plant can produce about 450 vehicles per day, and it isn't clear how long this weather-related stoppage will last.

Supercar parade entering highway is mesmerizing

Thu, 09 May 2013

In what must have looked and sounded to motorists on the M6 like an invasion of The Swarm, a parade of 50 enthusiast gems leaving a charity event were caught shooting down the on-ramp and merging into traffic. There were plenty of Porsches joining the 959 and Ducktail above, Aston Martins going back to the badboy V8 of the last millennium, a Ferrari Testarossa, a TVR and numerous other Easter eggs.
There were not, however, plenty of turn signals, with someone counting just five among the fifty engaging in proper use of the blinker. One reason put forth for that is the same reason we're posting this video, which is from last Summer, below: "because supercar." Enjoy.

Porsche Pajun to go all-electric as Tesla rival

Wed, Jan 28 2015

Porsche has been rumored to be working on a smaller counterpart to the Panamera for nearly four years now, but we have yet to see any sign of the model dubbed Pajun coming to fruition beyond a digital rendering hidden in the background of another Porsche design. Apparently Stuttgart has been having trouble making the business case in an already crowded market segment. But that doesn't mean the project is completely off the table. According to the latest from Germany's own Auto Motor und Sport, Porsche is now planning to launch the so-called Pajun (shorthand for Panamera Junior just like the Macan project was previously called Cajun) purely as an electric vehicle. With an eye evidently fixed on how dedicated hybrids and EVs are gaining traction in the marketplace (to say nothing of actual tarmac), the electric Pajun - almost certain to carry a different name to the showroom – would be different enough to distinguish itself from existing four-doors of that size like the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, et al. Word has it that Porsche believes that battery technologies will advance enough over the next four years to give its four-door EV a range of nearly 250 miles on a single charge. The model's arrival would be just the latest in a series of environmental concessions made by the company with the broadest range of plug-in hybrids on the market. Aside from the E-Hybrid versions of the Panamera and Cayenne, Porsche arguably led the charge (so to speak) towards hybrid hypercars with the 918 Spyder, is downsizing many of its engines and is turbocharging almost the entirety of the 911 range.
