1978 Porsche 911 Sc Targa 2-door 3.0l on 2040-cars
Polk City, Iowa, United States
You are bidding on a hard to find non-running 1978 Porsche 911SC Targa. This is an excellent project car for the Porsche lover. The previous owner bought this car used in 1978 from Novak Porsche Audi in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time the car only had 2,038 miles. I do have the purchase agreement and odometer mileage statement from that purchase. I also have many maintenance records that came with the car. We have looked the car over and it seems complete. The body is in great condition for a 35 year old car that has sat for a long period of time. There is no rust and no damage to the body and the floors are very solid. The paint looks to be original except for an area on the left rear quarter that looks to be painted and some clear coming off. It is hard to tell that area has been painted though. The car would look great with just a buff and wax but it depends on how far of a restore job a person wants to do with it. The top is in great condition and can be reused but the inside liner of it needs redone. The glass is in great condition with cracks or chips. The wheels are in excellent condition. There is no damage what so ever and the center caps are just as clean. I don't think they need any reconditioning but they will need new tires on them because these are old. Mechanically the car is not running and we have not tried to get it running. The car has sat for many years so I'm sure the drivetrain needs to be rebuilt. It is a 3.0L 6-Cyl with a 5-spd manual transmission. A/C compressor is there but I do not know the condition as the car does not run. The interior is actually in decent condition. The dash has a small crack near the passenger defrost vent and the glove box needs repaired. The threads on the steering wheel cover are coming apart. The car panels and rear seats are in great shape and could probably just be cleaned up. The front seats are leather with plaid cloth inserts that need redone. The carpet should be replaced. The trunk has the original space saver spare. I do have a clean and clear title. Vehicle can be seen at: Nelson Automotive - 300 Sandpiper Ct., Polk City, IA. 50226 - (515) 984-9600 This vehicle will be sold AS-IS, NO WARRANTY. This is a 35 year old car and even though we have presented this car to the best of our knowledge something could have been missed. We do strongly encourage anybody that is interested in this Porsche to come inspect it for themselves or hire an inspection. Please do not hesitate to ask questions. It is the buyers responsibility to inspect the vehicle and collect any information they can before the auction ends and the vehicle is sold. $1,000 Deposit is due within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Deposit must be paid by Pay-Pal. Remaining balance must be paid in full with a Certified Cashier's Check within 7 days of the end of the auction. We do collect tax, title, license and document fees from Iowa residents. We do not collect fees from out-of-state buyers. Out of state buyers must transfer title themselves. WE DO NOT SHIP. Shipping is the buyers responsibility and all shipping costs must be paid for by the buyer. We will help with vehicle pick-up. |

Chris Harris pits Aston GT12 vs 911 GT3 RS vs McLaren 650S
Wed, Oct 21 2015The Geneva Motor Show is never lacking in exciting performance machinery. And this year was no exception. Our eyes, like those of Chris Harris, were drawn by two hardcore, track-focused versions of existing sports cars. Both wore the name GT3, and now Harris has brought them together for a supercar shootout. And he's thrown one more in for good measure. Those natural rivals are the Aston Martin Vantage GT12 and Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the latter manufacturer having pressed the former to drop the GT3 name to which it claims exclusive domain. There's a great deal that separates them, of course: one's got a V12 up front, the other a flat-six way in the back. But what binds them together is a common approach of taking an existing model, stripping it down, and tightening everything up to make it more of a weapon than a grand tourer. What that means in the Aston's case is a rather high price tag, much higher than that of the Porsche. But scarce demand and speculation on the open market have left British customers, at least, paying as much for the GT3 RS as for the limited-edition Aston. And that takes both into proper supercar territory. So to show what else that kind of money can get you, Monkey has brought along a McLaren. Not the similarly track-focused 675LT, but the standard 650S... Spider, no less, and with worn hard rubber. So which one performs best on the road? Which clocks the fastest lap time on the track? And which gets Harris' vote? You'll have to watch the video for yourself to find out, but it's well worth the 25 minutes of your lunch break. 2014 Porsche Panamera Diesel is something to torque about
Tue, 10 Sep 2013Porsche has been in the business of slaying sacred cows for the better part of a decade, from venturing into the SUV space with the Cayenne to the four-door realm with its Panamera hatchback. And if those vehicles didn't leave brand purists apoplectic enough, Porsche has been adding diesel and hybrid power to its portfolio, thought to this point, neither alt-fuel motivator has made its way into the brand's sports car lineup.
Today's Frankfurt Motor Show effectively marks the second-generation of diesel power in the Panamera, and this updated 3.0-liter V6 features 300 horsepower (50 ponies more than last year) and a whopping 479 pound-feet of torque, available from 2,500 rpm. That power is achieved with a new higher-pressure, water-cooled turbo and redesigned engine internals that include a new crankshaft and pistons. The newfound increase is said to raise top speed to 161 miles per hour from 152, and drop the car's 0-62 mph time from 6.8 seconds down to 6.0. It also figures to be a better handler, with a new torque-vectoring rear differential borrowed from its gas-powered brethren and a reworked transmission for crisper shifts. The suspension has also been retuned, along with the updated 2014 visuals first revealed at April's Shanghai Motor Show.
No word yet on the North American sales prospects of this diesel Panamera, but we imagine that depends in part on how well the Cayenne diesel is selling.
Automakers not currently promoting EVs are probably doomed
Mon, Feb 22 2016Okay, let's be honest. The sky isn't falling – gas prices are. In fact, some experts say that prices at the pump will remain depressed for the next decade. Consumers have flocked to SUVs and CUVs, reversing the upward trend in US fuel economy seen over the last several years. A sudden push into electric vehicles seems ridiculous when gas guzzlers are selling so well. Make hay while the sun shines, right? A quick glance at some facts and figures provides evidence that the automakers currently doubling down on internal combustion probably have some rocky years ahead of them. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is a prime example of a volume manufacturer devoted to incremental gains for existing powertrains. Though FCA will kill off some of its more fuel-efficient models, part of its business plan involves replacing four- and five-speed transmissions with eight- and nine-speed units, yielding a fuel efficiency boost in the vicinity of ten percent over the next few years. Recent developments by battery startups have led some to suggest that efficiency and capacity could increase by over 100 percent in the same time. Research and development budgets paint a grim picture for old guard companies like Fiat Chrysler: In 2014, FCA spent about $1,026 per car sold on R&D, compared with about $24,783 per car sold for Tesla. To be fair, FCA can't be expected to match Tesla's efforts when its entry-level cars list for little more than half that much. But even more so than R&D, the area in which newcomers like Tesla have the industry licked is infrastructure. We often forget that our vehicles are mostly useless metal boxes without access to the network of fueling stations that keep them rolling. While EVs can always be plugged in at home, their proliferation depends on a similar network of charging stations that can allow for prolonged travel. Tesla already has 597 of its 480-volt Superchargers installed worldwide, and that figure will continue to rise. Porsche has also proposed a new 800-volt "Turbo Charging Station" to support the production version of its Mission E concept, and perhaps other VW Auto Group vehicles. As EVs grow in popularity, investment in these proprietary networks will pay off — who would buy a Chevy if the gas stations served only Ford owners? If anyone missed the importance of infrastructure, it's Toyota.
