The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"This 1977 Porsche 911S is complete but will require work to put back to running condition. Bodywork: There is some additional bodywork required to complete the addition of the steel fender flares.Engine: The oil tank was removed in 2006 to facilitate welding on the rear fender flare. The car has not been started since then. The crank turns freely by hand (not frozen). Before this the car would tend to oil-foul the #6 spark plug every 1000 miles or so. I would presume new valve guides and seals would be in order. Transaxle: The transmission has a weak synchro on 2nd gear requiring a little patience in shifting. Presumable this would need to be fixed. Interior: The seats are leather from mid-80s by their insert pattern. The seat bottom of the driver seat has some tears in it and has been mended with gaffer tape. Tires: These are old and dry-rotted. Needs new tires to be roadworthy."

While putting this car back to top condition would be some work, it does include several nice add-on pieces:

  • Steel fender flares, tacked in place and fully welded on the right side.
  • RS America style fiberglass wing
  • Fiberglass front air dam/splitter
  • 15x7, 15x8 (genuine) Fuchs wheels
  • H4 headlights
I'm selling this as a project but if you wanted to simply break it apart, the engine, transaxle, aero parts and wheels would bring significant cash (and then there are all the other pieces). Unfortunately I simply don't have the time to put into this and won't for the next few years, so I'm going to pass it on to somebody else.

Autoblog Unplugged: 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4S

Tue, Feb 10 2015

The day began cold and clear. It felt like a perfect late autumn afternoon to flog the 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4S on the backroads west of Detroit. So it seemed, anyway. An impromptu snow squall came out of nowhere, dampening the roads and our spirits, though the latter quickly were lifted as we began putting our German sports car through its paces. Quite simply, the 911 Targa 4S is up for almost everything. The all-wheel-drive system kept us poised and secure – it takes a bit to unsettle this 911 when all four wheels are clawing at the pavement. We still had 400 horsepower on tap, which is a riot to channel via the seamless PDK gearbox in any condition. Yes, this is a Targa, so even in the snow we dropped the top, cranked the seat heaters and had a heck of a good time. It's hard not to when you're motoring in something that starts at more than $120,000. Still, weather in Michigan can throw anyone a curve. We dealt with it, and luckily, you don't have to. In this Autoblog Unplugged you get all the good stuff. The purr and whine of the engine. Up-close shots of the Targa as it tackles the road – and best of all – no talking. Unplugs are all about driving. Thus, we'll shut up. Please enjoy.

Porsche Museum highlights history of the 911 RSR

Sat, 12 Jan 2013

Porsche has amassed quite an impressive trophy case in just about every racing series it has ever entered, and one of its most dominant machines has to be the 911 RSR from the 1970s. Taking part in various GT-class competitions, the 911 RSR managed to take home three international and seven German victories in 1973, its very first year of competition.
Not one to downplay its racing successes, Porsche has released an informative video detailing the 911 RSR's impressive heritage. The 1973 RSR model owned by the Porsche Museum is detailed beautifully on video, and we have to say it looks absolutely stunning in its vintage Martini Racing livery.
Have a look at the video below for some historic racing action, along with static shots of one of our favorite Porsche models ever created.

Hyundai, Porsche top J.D. Power APEAL study

Wed, 23 Jul 2014

Just as they did in the Initial Quality Study, Porsche and Hyundai have taken the premium and non-premium crown, respectively, for the 2014 J.D. Power APEAL study. This is the tenth consecutive year for that Porsche has been rated the best premium make in the APEAL study, which attempts to figure out how pleased owners are with their purchases. For 2014, it asked 86,000 owners of MY2014 cars to rate their vehicles in 77 different categories 90 days after their initial purchase. The resulting figures were plugged in deliver the APEAL score, which is rated on a 1,000-point scale.
The industry average sits at 794 points for 2014, although that's a one-percent decline over last year's rating. In this year's study, premium brands averaged 840 out of 1,000, while non-premium makes average 785. For their part, Porsche netted an impressive 882 points, while Hyundai earned an 804. Interestingly, only four non-premium brands (Hyundai, Ram, Volkswagen and Mini) finished above the industry average for 2014.
It's also interesting to see the clear delineation between premium and non-premium brands, with an eight-point gap between the non-premium champ, Hyundai, and the lowest-rated premium brand, Volvo.
