At one time, there was a blue 1963 Porsche 356 Super. On 12-5-1964, that Super was traded in at Stuttgart Import Corp in Towson, Maryland in order to purchase this 1965 356C. Included on the day of the sale was a dealer installed air horn option (of which I have not seen another) and a radio. Here is where this car becomes special - EVERY, and I mean EVERY time fuel was added to this vehicle from the first time until it was placed into storage (and beyond), the amount of fuel, the mileage on the odometer and the avg consumption was recorded in a small notebook. This recording starts from the time the vehicle left the dealership right up to its current 64 thousand miles. Included in this record keeping journal are also the original location of the wheels at all four corners and the spare. Each of the wheels was marked and as the tires were rotated, the placement of each wheel was documented as you will see in the photos/online album. All wheels are original and date stamped 8/64.This is a 100 percent numbers matching one owner car that has never been raced or wrecked. It was painted one time in 1976 and still retains the original paint on the dash and on the lower catch for the front trunk. Every bit of maintenance that was ever done to this car was carefully recorded and it has every record right back to the day of delivery. The original owners manual and service book are included and you will see the service book and manual are both in great condition. Things like this tend to disappear over time as cars go from owner to owner. The owner of this car was extremely careful to keep everything well preserved and documented. There is also an original tool kit with just about every tool still in very nice condition, and there is an original luggage rack that is also in fantastic condition. I can't stress enough the documentation that clearly shows every moment of this car's history. There is no certificate of authenticity. Those are for people who need evidence or proof of how their car was delivered. One is not needed. One could be gotten, but it is not even necessary. The paperwork is phenomenal. There are so many little detail items on this car that go missing over the years. Not so here.
.As you will see from the pictures, this is a very strong driver quality vehicle. This is not a concours Manhattan Trophy winner as it sits. Truthfully it would be a disgrace to restore this car. So much of it is still original. 90 percent of the interior is still the original interior. All of the carpet is the original squareweave wool with the correct and original floor mats except for the carpet on/around the jump seats. The seatbelts are still in place and attached correctly. The steering wheel is wrapped and appears to be crack free beneath the cover. The padded dash top has been removed and the padding has been removed as well. the dash is included but will need to be recovered. All the screws and the light for this are in a baggie, in a box, and wrapped in newspaper from 1978. The story goes like this, "I was driving down I-95 when a truck pitched a rock into the windshield. I got the windshield replaced, but the seal was leaking and it damaged the dash." You just don't get that information on hand me down cars. There is a multitude of extra bits and pieces that are saved and boxed in the authentic time appropriate newspaper (such as new points from Stoddard  circa the mid to late 70's).The car still even has the original keys. Again, the car only has 64 thousand miles and runs like a 64 thousand mile car should. In fact, the pistons were replaced at 30,000 miles so those are even newer than the rest of the engine which is the correct engine for this car.
Now lets get to the meat and potatoes. This is an East coast car and again has only had one paint job back in 1976. Considering that, you wouldn't believe the paint is that old when you see it. During that time some rust was repaired around the doors and rockers. All panels are original to this car, but in the 70's some were nicely patched via brazed in metal. The car still has 85 percent of its original floors, longitudinals, closing panels and battery box. There is a patch under the battery (not the entire battery box). There is a patch on the driver's front floor. See pics. The upholstery is mostly original as stated above (including a functioning radio) but is in survivor condition. Not ratty and gross, but not brand new either. As you will see in the pictures there are a few smaller rust holes that are not structural around the jack points and closing panels. The seats have headrests which are removed (in very nice shape, but red)
This vehicle was daily driven and always garaged until about the mid 70's at which time it became partially driven and then finally parked in 1982. From 1982 until 20012, it was occasionally pushed out of the garage and started. I was able to get the car out of it's hibernation in the Spring of 2012, at which time I flat bedded  the vehicle to my garage and performed the following services: First removed, drained and thoroughly cleaned the gas tank, replaced every inch of soft rubber fuel hose with brand new correct cloth braided fuel hose (all metal fuel hoses were cleaned as well, rebuilt and cleaned the fuel petcock, rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced the master cylinder, all rubber brake hoses and all metal rear brake lines were replaced, brake calipers inspected, cleaned and rebuilt, gradually gravity bled the brakes over the course of a month and then pressure bled them. Carbs were rebuilt, fuel filter replaced, new air cleaners installed (see pics the owner was so meticulous about record keeping, the air cleaners were even dated), oil changed, new coil, transmission drained and filled. The car had a NOS muffler and tail pipe kit, still in the box from PB Tweeks dated 1979 which was installed. Side note - the very rare exhaust shield that goes between the pulley cover and muffler is even still there. I have seen many 356 "aficionados" look at this piece on Ab Teidemann's parts table(he re-manufactures them) and have no idea what it is because it is missing from so many cars. A new battery was installed and is always on a 6 volt battery tender. Reinstalled the gas tank, added some fuel and on 12/12/2012, the car fired up almost in an instant and ran beautifully once it got gas to the carbs. This car runs and idles very well and has ZERO grinding in the transmission - even on a dreaded downshift into first. There was a clunking in the front end, so I adjusted the king and link pins which eliminated about 95 percent of that. They may still need a slight adjustment. I don't drive the car very long distances because the tires are from 1976 and have tubes in them. However, they do not look too dry rot to use, but I don't want to risk it.This car will literally start at the twist of the key unless it has been sitting for a length of time. If it sits for a while, it helps to prime it. There are 87 pictures of the car, its records and books at http://imgur.com/a/ggDO1?gallery
Please copy and paste that into your browser to see them.

In looking at the pictures, the car actually looks better in person than in the pictures, which is not usually the case. I am so reluctant to change or clean anything on this car that you will notice some cobwebs and things underneath. The only cleaning I did was wipe it off with a damp rag once and it is dusty in the pictures. The doors on this car close with the precision vault like sound you expect from a Porsche. The hood and deck lid have never been sprung and the hinges operate perfectly. I truly hope somebody understands what a time capsule this car is. Anyone can make them  beautiful, but they can really only be original once. The title is in the name of the original owner and was released in 1967 when the car was paid off. You can search from now until the end of time, but to find a one owner car with this documentation is about as likely as winning the Powerball Jackpot. True, it is not a trailer queen, but that is just the point. To change anything unnecessarily would be sacrilege, and if you don't understand that, I would just as soon wish you good day and ask kindly that you move on to another auction.
This is obviously going to be a high dollar purchase in comparison to oh... let's say a pack of guitar strings. Therefore, if you have ANY negative feedback, or a low feedback rating (less than 25) CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU BID PLEASE. I have well over 600 flawless transactions on Ebay and I can be trusted. if you can't be, please look elsewhere. As a sidenote, if the reserve is not met, this car will never be for sale again until the day of my death. If you buy it and don't pay, it may be the day of your death. Just kidding, but seriously, don't buy it and don't pay, that's just wrong! You are welcome to call (no later than 9pm est please) me to discuss the vehicle or to set up an appointment to see it. 410 215-9577. Denis

2014 Porsche Cayman promo video hits the web

Fri, 28 Dec 2012

Don't know how we missed this, but you don't have to play around with the 2014 Porsche Cayman configurator to see the new coupe in action; Porsche has given us more than two beautiful minutes of Cayman footage to enjoy.
The partners in the on-screen tango are the 275-horsepower base Cayman and the 325-hp Cayman S. If you like to keep track of such things, the former starts at $52,600, the latter at $63,800, plus $950 destination for each. Watching a video like the one below, however, is free.

Best luxury SUVs of 2022 and 2023

Mon, Sep 12 2022

Once upon a time, the idea of a luxury SUV meant a Range Rover, and even that was pretty agricultural by modern standards. Then Jeep Grand Cherokees and Ford Explorers started offering fancy, range-topping versions followed soon by Lexus, BMW and Mercedes dipping their toes in the water. And then the floodgates opened. Today, there is a staggering number of luxury SUVs available in every shape, size and price point. There are electric luxury SUVs like the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace, as well as gas-swilling, high-performance SUVs like the BMW X5 M and Cadillac Escalade V. Sports car makers Porsche, Aston Martin and Lamborghini have even dived in.  But of this great many, which are the best luxury SUVs? We sat down, scoured our reviews, took some votes, had some discussions and came up with the luxury SUVs we view as the best. They are listed alphabetically within the six segments listed below.  Best Subcompact Luxury SUV   |   Best Compact Luxury SUV   |   Best Midsize Luxury SUV (Two-Row) Best Midsize Luxury SUV (Three-Row)   |   Best Flagship Luxury SUV (Two-Row)   |   Best Flagship Luxury SUV (Three-Row)  Best subcompact luxury SUVs Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class Why it stands out: Outstanding space and versatility; legit luxury interior; amusing GLB 35 versionCould be better: Overwhelming and confusing tech interface Most subcompact luxury SUVs are a dubious value, with cramped interiors of marginal quality and unrefined driving dynamics. You'd be much better off paying less money for a loaded, non-luxury compact SUV. The Mercedes GLB is different, though. Its boxy design provides space few other subcompact SUV can match (luxury or otherwise), while its cabin design and feature content are in keeping with pricier Mercedes models. The quality's not exactly up to GLC standards, nor is driving refinement, but the difference is appropriate for how much you're saving and still perfectly acceptable. There's nothing dubious about buying a GLB.     Volvo XC40 Why it stands out: More features for the money; spacious and versatile interior; distinctive design; electric versionCould be better: Fuel-efficient base engine only available with FWD Most subcompact luxury models feel a bit like cheap knockoffs of their bigger, pricier brand mates. The XC40, by contrast, is a break from the Volvo norm in a good way.

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
