Very Original, Fun, Driver - Or The Foundation Of A 356 Dream Project! on 2040-cars
Lake Forest, Illinois, United States
1965 Porsche 356C, A Great Driving, Very Original, Touring Car . . . or the solid, rust free foundation for your dream 356 concours winning project! This is the dream Porsche 356 C - a comfortable, great running Coupe. A fun, easy driver to go on everything from a local Cruise Night or Car Club Show to a trip around the Upper Penninsula or that fantasy cross country Route 66 run. For sale by a long time 356 owner and 356 vintage racer. My third 356 and 29th year as an owner and PCA member. The last - and arguably BEST - year of this car, titled in 1965. And this rare example is a once-in-a-lifetime find: Bought from the second owner with just over 23,000 miles on the clock, it"s not exactly a Barn Find - its a Storage Unit Find from the dry, arid part of the country in Oklahoma. Stored the last eight years, it has been carefully and lovingly returned to service. The front trunk and engine compartment are nicely detailed to original appearance and are very presentable. Everything has an appropriate, correct and unmolested look. The car drives nicely and the trans shifts smooth as silk. The disc brakes are a pleasure. The correct C engine has no serial number, an indication of a dealer replacement part from back in the day. The Weber carbs have been gone completely thru and run very well. The entire fuel system was replaced from fuel tank to correct hose and clamps. The body is a rare solid body. The Ivory color was sprayed back in the 70's and is showing its age in terms of a bit of crazing here and there, but looks very presentable. This bare metal paint job was also the time of the addition of the sunroof clip from another 356, a common addition at that time. When you are ready to restore or upgrade the car then you can decide to maintain the current Ivory or restore to the original Slate Grey as indicated on the included Certificate Of Authenticity. Either looks great! Electrical system has been gone thru and the original 6v is fully functional. Upgraded to an Optima Gel battery which adds reliable starting, yet undetectable in a "cloaking device" case. The addition of a modern flasher unit makes all lights flash and work appropriately. Interior and dash lights all work properly. The starter has been rebuilt along with the correct AM-FM-Marine Blaupunkt radio. Being an affordable C Coupe here is an opportunity to own the 356 you've always dreamed of. If you've been watching the prices ratchet up there is no time like the present. The Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is included and shows the car manufactured as a 1964 car, titled as a 1965. This was common at the time to title the car when sold, not manufactured. Here are some more features: Solid, Dry Oklahoma Car - last 8 years in storage Approx 23,000 original miles One repaint - early 70's - current factory color Ivory. Original Color per VIN 218739 Slate Grey Correct C engine has no serial number: dealer case replacement Aluminum TIG weld of crack at base of oil cooler on engine case - correct proper repair. Sunroof has not been opened since lovingly brought out of storage. Note: not originally a sunroof coupe, this sunroof was added as a clip from a donor Porsche 356 sunroof coupe. Not an aftermarket unit. Disc Brakes, Trans, Engine complete recent service 6V system - Optima Gel battery upgrade with "cloaking device" - all lights work All Excellent Chrome: including wheels, trim and a sport luggage rack Recent Rebuilds: AM-FM-Marine correct radio, starter, carbs, petcock and tank sender. Weber 40 IDF carbs New correct fuel line, clamps and fuel tank Much fresh rubber and seals Red Leatherette Interior Rare horn trim ring and ashtray options Battery box correctly repaired to factory appearance Heater boxes are also original and the heater puts out good heat. Owner's manuals, Binder with lots of dealer receipts and many original parts Certificate Of Authenticity included. I am not a car dealership, but a Porsche 356 enthusiast who has had experience with these cars for almost 30 years and hoping to find this special car a good new home. Please contact me with any questions you might have as soon as possible. Thanks for looking! |

Porsche to develop new line of engines for next Panamera
Sat, 22 Mar 2014When the second generation of the four-door Porsche Panamera launches, it will likely be riding a new platform, complete with an all-new family of V6 and V8 engines, according to a report coming out of the UK.
Autocar reports that the so-called MSB platform will likely underpin the Panamera, and it could be shared with Bentley, provided the Volkswagen-owned, British-built brand commits to the architecture. As for the engines, it's reported that they'll have a sportier character than the V6s and V8s being built for Volkswagen and Audi's vehicles.
"Porsche will have its own new V8 that will be common to the new MSB platform," Porsche's chief engineer, Wolfgang Hatz, said. "It's a family for the next 10 years of cars." Whether the V8 and V6 will be used outside of the Panamera line, though, remains unclear. There's also no mention of what place turbocharging would have with the new engines.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS looks wicked, this way comes
Thu, Dec 11 2014Those who didn't think Porsche went extreme enough with the latest 911 GT3 likely won't be disappointed when the more focused GT3 RS arrives. And as you can see from these latest spy shots, it looks like it's speeding right around the corner. Tipped to debut at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is shaping up to be an enthusiast's dream - and with the prospect of a GT2 in doubt, could be the most hardcore Elfen in the range. Instead of the 3.8-liter flat-six in the current GT3, the new RS will pick up where the previous limited-edition GT3 RS 4.0 left off, with four naturally aspirated liters of unadulterated boxer power channeling a good 520 horses to the rear wheels. That will be a significant increase over the existing 475-hp GT3 and will match the 911 Turbo for output (if not the 560-hp Turbo S) and without any turbo lag to slow down the action, either. Whether it will keep the GT3's dual-clutch gearbox and four-wheel steering system, or ditch one or both for a more analog approach, remains to be seen, but we're holding out hope. Either way, the modifications to the bodywork ought to make the GT3 RS stand out even further and stay glued to the race track it will call home. Notice the deep front splitter scooping up snowflakes like a shovel, a massive rear wing (which may or may not be the final production version), the Turbo-spec rear end with air intakes ahead of the rear wheels, and a set of awesome-looking gills over the front wheels all of which you can scope out in the gallery full of spy shots above.
NYT profiles Blue Nelson, a reclusive and interesting CA car collector
Thu, 25 Sep 2014If it weren't for his Dale Earnhardt Sr. looks, Blue Nelson could be one one of those soft-spoken, nondescript guys whom you meet briefly and never learn much more about. However, as The New York Times shows in a recent profile and video, behind closed doors, Nelson keeps a fascinatingly eclectic collection of automotive oddities and vintage bicycles.
While his main career is in the movie industry, Nelson's other job is as a car hunter. He takes on clients searching for a specific model and helps them find and restore the dream vehicle that they're after. Hiring him takes some dedication, though, because Nelson doesn't advertise his services. "If people want to find me, they know how to find me," he says in the video.
Beyond being an automotive private detective, Nelson has a fantastically varied collection of vehicles of his own. He likes to have models that people don't usually see, and his garage holds a classic Chrysler New Yorker and an extremely rare Rometsch convertible. Although, the one that means the most to him is the 1962 Porsche 356 convertible that Blue came home in as a baby. Check out the video to learn more about Nelson and his philosophy about forming a bond with a car.
