1960 Porsche 356B 1600 Coupe Coachwork by Reutter

P715511 Dual Weber Carburetors 88bhp at 5,200rpm 4-Speed Manual Transmission 4-Wheel Independent Suspension with Koni Shock Absorbers 4-Wheel Hydraulic Drum Brakes *Restored in 2002 with a 75 HP 356C motor *Recent comprehensive mechanical service *Nicely presented, stock exterior *The quintessential Porsche sleeper The 356 While the 911, in its various forms, is certainly Porsche's longest-running model, the 356, which put the marque on the map, must certainly be the most iconic. While the basic architecture and shape of the 356 changed very little over its lifetime, there were in effect, several generations of cars. The first, characterized by split (or bent) windshields, were built through 1954. From 1955 to 1959, a revised model designated 356A was built, with curved windshield and modified suspension. It was succeeded during 1959 by the 356B, with a new nose contour that raised the headlights upwards. Although Porsche sourced bodies from a number of suppliers, by far the most came from Reutter. Karosseriefabrik Reutter & Co. of Stuttgart had a long association with Porsche. Founded as a coachbuilding firm in 1906, Reutter pioneered lightweight construction, using Weymann fabric patents and early use of aluminum. Reutter furnished prototypes to Ferdinand Porsche in 1932, during the early days of the Volkswagen project, then bodied Mercedes and BMW cars during the 1930s. The association with Porsche was rekindled in 1950, when the nascent Porsche company returned from Austria to Stuttgart. Porsche's old facilities were occupied by the US Army, so Reutter leased some plants to Porsche for car production and started producing bodies for a number of 356 models. These included coupes, cabriolets and speedsters. While Karmann also built coupes in the 1960s, most of the open cars were by Reutter. This symbiotic relationship made Reutter a de facto in-house coachbuilder, much more closely allied with Porsche than Karmann or Drauz, or other outside firms. Porsche and Reutter were finally merged in 1963, although a portion of the original Reutter company remains independent, operating under the name "Recaro." The Motorcar Offered Originally restored in 2002 by a 356 specialist, this very stock looking B Coupe is in fact powered by a refined and throaty C motor. Following its restoration it was shown a few times and driven sparingly before being put away for eight years. It received a subsequent recommissioning at the end of last year by a Porsche Specialist/ fanatic. who corrected and spared no expense bringing the motorcar to factory form. The gas tank was removed and refurbished while the Weber carbs were sent to Black Line Racing for a total rebuild. The brakes received similar treatment by the specialists at White Post Racing while numerous other parts received attention at Stoddard Porsche. Today the fast and fun coupe rides on four new Continental tires and starts easily thanks to a new battery. Inside, the leather trimmed interior offers a level of comfort found in few 356s while the rare and desirable Hella 128 driving lights will light the way. Complete with its books and tools, it is an excellent car to just hop in and drive, this back roads burners is a sure fire ticket to a summer of fun motoring. you can never truly appreciate it because just cant capture the beauty of this classic gem. Porsche 911 Targa leaks out ahead of Detroit debut
Mon, 13 Jan 2014With the doors of Cobo Center opening for the 2014 Detroit Auto Show this morning, Porsche is set to reveal its new 911 Targa in a matter of hours. But before it gets the chance, the first batch of images have already leaked out, courtesy of Chinese car site autohome.com.cn.
As expected, the new Targa appears to ditch the complex sliding glass roof panels that adorned recent versions of the semi-convertible 911 in favor of a more back-to-basics approach. An entirely removable roof panel opens up the sky, backed by a metallic B-pillar hoop in front of a large curved-glass rear window.
We'll have to wait just a little longer for the full scope of images and all the official details, but we're expecting the new Targa to carry most of the same technical specifications as the 991 on which it's based. Watch this space for more.
Translogic 166: Porsche 918 Spyder
Mon, Dec 15 2014In the same month that Porsche announced that its 918 Spyder is sold out, Translogic is getting its first (and likely last) shot at the plug-in hybrid hypercar. Our drive starts off in a very civilized fashion as we tour the 918 Spyder's e-power and hybrid modes, but the fun really starts when the naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine roars to life in sport and race hybrid modes, augmenting the electric motors with an additional 608 horsepower for a total of 887. We even attempt an impromptu 0-60 test to see if we can match Porsche's gobsmacking official time of 2.5 seconds, but sadly we don't have the room to make a run on its 214-mph top speed. Watch as Translogic host Jonathon Buckley pilots this Porsche around an airstrip in Irvine, CA, with a focus on the many driving modes that set the 918 Spyder apart from anything else in the storied automaker's history. Follow Translogic on Twitter and Facebook. Click here to subscribe to Translogic in iTunes. Click here to learn more about our host, Jonathon Buckley.
2014 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition is the ace of base
Tue, 14 Jan 2014If there's one automaker that certainly doesn't skimp on the special edition models, it's Porsche, and here at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, we're getting our first look at yet another unique take on one of the company's most popular models. It's called the Cayenne Platinum Edition, and while many special models build off of higher-trim vehicles, this one adds a bit of flair to the most basic version of the luxury SUV.
The Platinum Edition is available on Cayennes with the base 3.6-liter V6 or the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. Platinum models are set apart from other models with the addition of silver exterior accents on the grilles, window trim and rear spoiler, as well as the two-tone, black-and-beige interior scheme. It also comes standard with the eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission, Power Steering Plus, Park Assist, the Convenience Package and Bose audio.
The cost of entry? $63,000 for the naturally aspirated Cayenne or $66,900 for the diesel. That's a full $13,000 more than the base model, but Porsche says it's actually a bargain as opposed to selecting all of those options individually. Have a look below for Porsche's official release.
