Long Time California Car. Strong Running, Well-maintained Example. on 2040-cars
Emeryville, California, United States
1964 Porsche 356C Coupe
Ferdinand Porsche’s first roadgoing model bearing his own name was the 356. Introduced in 1948, it underwent continuous development during the production run, which finally ended in 1965. By production’s end, the car had come a long way. Engine output over doubled, from 40hp at introduction to just shy of 100hp in the last examples. The ultimate development from these years was the 356 C, which represented significant advances over earlier models, including the adoption of disc brakes. They were available in several configurations as both coupes and cabriolets, and with several motors. This particular car is a long time California car, having been registered in California since approximately 1973, based on its old registration number 800 NTU. The car has records back to 1983, indicating that it was purchased by a woman in Sacramento. The car wore 6 digit blue license plates at that time, although these were replaced by a California “sunset” vanity plate in 1986. She looked after the car very fastidiously, performing regular valve adjustments, major services, and other repairs as necessary. She sold the car to its current owner in 1993, who continued the car’s fastidious maintenance. The owner has a 356 Speedster and purchased this car for his wife. Together, they used this 356C extensively for trips and it has proven quite reliable. There is a thick file of service records showing that the car was regularly used and always maintained. Included among this was a complete engine overhaul 25,000 miles ago in 2002. The car has had much other maintenance over the years, including restoration of the fuel tank and fueling system, cosmetic engine freshening including refinishing fan shroud, engine tin, and heater boxes, replacing brake lines, replacing pads and rotors, replacing the shocks and steering damper, replacing the master cylinder, and many other items. The car has the upholstery redone approximately ten years ago, as well as a respray. The car is in good cosmetic condition. Structurally, the car is very nice, with a good solid body that appears to be rust-free. The underside shows what appear to be excellent original floors that are free of corrosion. The longitudinals are also in excellent rust-free condition. The battery box is generally good, although there is a small hole. The car is equipped with a sunroof, although the owner reports that it does not appear on the Kardex. Regardless, it appears to be an original sunroof, with the correct type header rail, tracks, and dash switch. The paintwork was done to mediocre standards and is showing orange peel and a few areas of cracking and peeling, which have been touched up. The chrome ranges from fair to very good, but all trim is present and in good condition. The wheels are chromed and are very good. The car is also fitted with Speedster type side trims. The glass and lights are generally very good to excellent, though there is light pitting across the front windscreen from usual road use. The interior is in very good condition, with very good upholstery and carpets. The carpets are not of the correct material but are in excellent shape and well fitted. The correct rubber floor mats are in place and in good shape. The dashboard and instruments are in good shape, and the headliner is excellent. The trunk is correct and in very fine unrestored condition with correct plastic liner and chromed spare date coded May of 1964. The engine compartment is generally correct in appearance, with no untoward modifications. The original air cleaners are in place and the engine is reasonably clean with the appearance of a well-cared for car that has been used regularly but not neglected. The car runs and drives superbly, and the current owners have taken the car on many extended trips in the US and even into Northwestern Canada. This is a great opportunity to acquire a great driver 356C with sunroof that has been a reliable long distance tourer for its previous keepers. While not cosmetically perfect, it is mechanically and structurally excellent, making it an ideal event car, touring car, or a car to gradually improve while still using and driving it regularly. It comes with service records back to 1983. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This car is sold AS IS without warranty. A 10% deposit is due upon the successful completion of the auction. Porsche would have entered F1 if Audi had blocked its Le Mans program
Thu, 13 Mar 2014Go back a few years and you may have heard rumors of Porsche heading into Formula One. That never came to pass - or at least, it hasn't yet - but that doesn't mean that it wasn't close to happening. That's how committed to returning to top-level motorsport competition Porsche has become recently.
Autosport reports that just as Porsche was merging fully into the Volkswagen Group, Zuffenhausen was weighing its options for a factory racing program. Le Mans was its favorite, which makes sense, as it remains far and away the most successful constructor in the history of the famous endurance race. But the strategists at Porsche were worried that its new corporate overlords at Volkswagen wouldn't support two LMP1 programs and would favor Audi, which has positively dominated the modern era of endurance racing, coming second only to Porsche in the number of Le Mans victories it has scored to date.
Porsche's Plan B was reportedly to head into Formula One, although it isn't clear if the German automaker was intent on starting its own team, buying an existing one or merely providing engines to other teams. Porsche fielded its own cars in F1 in the late 1950s and early 60s, and returned as an engine supplier with TAG to power McLaren in the 1980s, powering Niki Lauda and Alain Prost to the World Championship in 1984 and 1985.
Porsche Macan spied, all lit up and dodging flurries
Thu, 17 Jan 2013We've seen the upcoming Porsche Macan testing on surface roads and even on the Nürburgring, but here we have our first spy shots showing a disguised prototype doing some winter testing in snowy conditions. Still obscured by plenty of camouflage attempting to mimic its larger Cayenne sibling, we still can't get a clear look at what the Macan's face and rump are going to look like, although it does appear that some details for the front lighting are starting to emerge.
Below the headlights, those are obviously decals trying to look like turn signal lenses, but it appears that there is still some sort of lighting being hidden judging by the small circles cut into the camo. Lower in the fascia, we can also see there are LED running lights not revealed on past prototypes. The entire rear end of this Macan prototype still appears to be tacked-on camo, but the side view appears to be in production form save for the poorly disguised rear quarter windows.
As we've seen in the past, Porsche engineers are still testing the Macan alongside the Audi Q5 with which it shares its platform. There has been no word as to when we could expect to see the Macan in production or concept form, but we'd have to guess that this compact crossover is getting ready to shed its camo very soon.
2015 Porsche Cayenne spotted with facelift
Wed, 03 Apr 2013Although it's only been a few years since the current Porsche Cayenne was introduced, Porsche seems to be working on a midcycle update for its big SUV possibly in time to welcome the smaller Macan. As seen in these recent spy shots, it looks like the Cayenne will be getting a minor face- and butt-lift, but it's hard to say what other changes are in store or when the updated model will hit showrooms.
Up front, expect the Cayenne's new face to resemble what was just revealed on the 2014 Panamera, and we could also see this SUV using some of the new engines introduced on the Panamera including the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 or maybe even the E-Hybrid model. We're guessing that the new Cayenne could debut sometime next year likely for the 2015 model year. In the meantime, check out the gallery of spy shots above.
