 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster

This beautiful 1957 Porsche replica was purchased with the intention of showing it this up-coming car show season, but it doesn't appear myself or my family will be showing this one as much as we would like.  Therefore, I would like to give someone else an opportunity to own this car great car.

Beautiful Fjord Green exterior with black interior.  Recreated by Classic Motor Carriages out of Miami, FL in the late 1980's.  This will be a good investment and a fun car for the next owner.  Car looks great and drives excellent too.  Should win a trophy at most of your local shows ; )

Details/Features:

  • 1776cc Engine (with Dual Weber Carburetors)
  • 4 Speed Standard Transmission
  • MSD Coil
  • Lightened Flywheel
  • Electronic Ignition
  • Hydraulic Lifters
  • Remote Oil Filter
  • Independent Rear Suspension
  • Newer Exhaust and Brakes (sounds great!)
  • Nice Black Top (with side curtains)
  • Tonneau Cover
  • AM/FM CD Stereo with IPod and Blue Tooth
  • Titled as a 1957 Porsche

It sounds and looks unbelievable.  The engine idles very well, makes great power, and starts easy every time.  The transmission also shifts smoothly.  The car gets down the road and will flow with modern traffic with no problem.  All working gauges, lights, and accessories ...  Unlike anything else on the road!  These cars absolutely love twisty roads!  You'd be hard pressed to find a car more fun to drive.  I know most people would never do this, but these really are cars you could drive everyday if you wanted to.  They are easy to get in and out of and they actually ride very comfortably.

It has a spectacular look that grabs everyone's attention.  The paint job looks very good from nearly any distance and the underside of the car is neat.  The interior is very nice as well.  It has a great fit and finish.  Every panel lines up excellent and everything opens and shuts with ease.  This car has been well cared for and it shows.  Always garage kept.

A real 356 Speedster has rocketed to a price of almost $300,000!!  You can have just as much fun as owning the real car, but for a fraction of the cost!!  This car looks very authentic.

I welcome inspections and appraisers.  Shown by appointment.

Drive home or I can help ship this Porsche to your door at a reduced rate via enclosed transport.  If you are a long distance or overseas, I will try to work with you on the shipping .....Please contact me for details.

Jack Olsen built a Porsche 911 to drive every day and conquer Willow Springs

Mon, Dec 15 2014

Almost two years ago we wrote about the 12-Gauge Garage Jack Olsen built to house his multifarious Porsche 911 - its 1972 bodywork hides four decades of Porsche parts, like the transaxle from a 1977 911 and the engine from 1995 911, for example. It weighs 2,400 pounds and has 272 horsepower, and Olsen uses it daily driving and for track days, the latter excursions featuring homemade, bolt-on aero parts. German magazine Auto Bild stopped by Olsen's house to look in on the Porsche called "Black Beauty II," and we get a few more details about the mods he's made, like swapping out for fiberglass body panels and welding Fuchs wheel centers to wider Corvette barrels so he could run different tires. Most importantly, though, Olsen divulges his passion for lowering his lap time at Willow Springs. Randy Pobst set the lap record for a production car around the 2.5-mile Big Willow track in a Porsche 918 Spyder at 1:23.54 during a Motor Trend test (the outright record, according to Willow Springs, is held by Michael Andretti at 1:06.050 in a CART car). Further down the list, Steve Millen drove a 415-hp 911 GT3 RS around the same track in 1:33.14 - a car 600 pounds heavier than Olsen's. Over the past 14 years of tinkering with his car, Olsen says his data shows his lap time is now down to 1:26.88, achieved on the day of filming the Auto Bild video. That time would put him in between the 1:26 flat posted by Dominik Farnbacher in a 608-hp Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR and the 1:28.93 put up by Pobst in a 400-hp, 991-series 911. You can hear Olsen tell it in his own words in the video.

1974 Porsche 914 EV conversion still looks good

Thu, Jan 23 2014

Looking through the pages of the EV Album is a great way to learn about the breadth and depth of the electric vehicle community. Branching well beyond the three dozen or so electric vehicles that are currently sold by major automakers in the US, EV Album showcases lots of DIY conversions of all types. A 1995 Fiat Cinquecento? Check. A 1992 Kewet Eljet 2? No problem. The site's old-fashioned looks (it was started in 1997) show just how long people have been passionate about their EVs. Many of the cars are throwbacks to a previous time and we found a prime example of that, a converted 1974 Porsche 914 (EV Album page here) this week. Now powered by a Prestolite MTC4001 Series Wound DC motor and some flooded nickel-cadmium batteries, the 914 has a top speed of 80 miles per hour and a range of 35 miles. But only "if you are taking it easy," of course. The motor has a peak output of 60 horsepower and 25 hp continuous. Converted over 600 hours (!) to electric power at a cost of $10,000, it is now owned by Charlie Garlow of Maryland. The car is on display at the Washington Auto Show this week and serves as a great reminder of what most EV drivers used to have to do to drive emissions free. Porsche Cayman GT4 speeds back into view

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

We're all familiar with the succession of numbers that follow the letters GT on a hard-core Porsche 911: the GT1 that was Stuttgart's Le Mans contender in the late 90s, the GT2 that packs turbochargers but without the Turbo's all-wheel drive and excess weight, and the naturally aspirated GT3 that's the enthusiast's choice. But a GT4? That's something new, and exactly what Porsche has in store.
Spied testing in Germany once again is the upcoming GT4 version of the Porsche Cayman, set to supersede the existing GTS and take the place of the previous Cayman R at the top of Porsche's junior sports car range. This latest batch of spy shots doesn't show us much more than the last crop, but gives us a much clearer view at what promises to be the most hardcore Cayman to date.
As you can see, the Cayman GT4 packs a much more aggressive aero kit and rolling stock than any version we've seen to date. It's got a lip spoiler, big air dam and GT3-style vent in front of the hood, deep air scoops along the flanks, a set of spindly alloys packing oversized brakes, a diffuser with twin central exhaust tips around back and a rear wing that's likely to be replaced with a sleeker unit before the GT4 reaches production.
