Stunning 1955 Porsche Speedster by Classic Motor Carriage Beautiful Bahia red 1955 Porsche Speedster designed and assembled by famed builder Classic Motor Carriage. Classic was the original company to design a Speedster "tribute" car, and has been known for years as a premiere manufacturer of such. While many manufacturers simply drop a 356 shaped fiberglass tub on top of an old Volkswagen chassis, the Classic reproduction is known for being produced as close to the original and famed Porsche specs as possible (actually around 11.7" shorter than a typical VW chassis). Included with this car are the original assembly and build books and sheets, which offer a detailed comparison between the Classic and the original, as well as an exacting description of the manufacturing process. I also even have the original, hand written purchase order and bills of sale, from 1984. The example offered here, is a fine testament to the original Classic Speedster build and quality. Lovingly maintained and used since built, this car has traveled just 6,000 miles. It is finished in quintessential Porsche red, trimmed in black, and includes many original speedster parts. In fact, Classic Speedster has claimed and documented that over 90% of the parts on a Classic Speedster are interchangeable with an original Porsche. Car & Driver and many other enthusiast magazines have marveled at how a well finished "Classic Speedster is nearly indistinguishable from the original. The paint on this Speedster is nice, but original, so could use a buff and some chip repair if you want perfection (see pics). Many feel that the 'patina-ed' paint adds to the authentic look of the car though, so you decide your preference. There are a couple chips in the hood that have been repaired marginally to the discriminating eye or for show, but are fine for a driver, and probably not too noticeable to most (note, it's very nice, I'm just very picky & critical about my paint). The authentic 'stick' type seats are great, and the Momo style 'Prototipo' type wheel enhances the fun of driving this car. The top and side curtains are in excellent shape, and can be used up, folded down (top), or removed completely. There is also a full and excellent tonneau cover included (see pic). The Speedster also benefits from wonderful, fully lit (with adjustable back lighting), authentic VDO gauges, that are all functional. The Porsche & Speedster badges have been left off for a 'clean' look, but are available to the winning bidder if desired (see pic), and I will include them with the sale if the reserve is met. This Classic Speedster comes with a dual carb 'Super' engine built exclusively for this car, and tuned to around 1750cc. With the relative feather light curb weight (approx 1585 lbs) of this car, it's quick, and just a blast to drive. With the near 50/50 weight distribution (46/54 to be exact), the handling is incredible as well. And with updated disc brakes, the stopping power is more than adequate. Note the engine size: I know, these days, you often see examples of these tuned to 1850 cc and more, but those 'super tweaked' engines rarely last, and often have major motor problems within a couple thousand miles. This car runs absolutely fabulously, always fires right up, and idles smooth as silk. The only need in recent years has been for a new starter, which the car has. After the feeling of a drive in a Speedster, not to mention the attention one gets within, there's no question why these cars have had the following of everyone from Hollywood royalty (James Dean!), to discriminating auto collectors the world over. Top tier Porsche aficionados have made the 356 Speedster model the cornerstone Porsche for any complete collection. I have owned dozens of Porsches (& still have too many - if that's possible), and this car has fit beautifully and been thoroughly enjoyed within my collection. The relative maintenance free, high reliability aspect of it, makes it a joy to own. Original Porsche Speedsters now fetch upwards of $250,000. Own this stunning and true re-creation for less than 10% of the original. This is a turn the key and go have fun car. Here's a short YouTube video walk around of the Speedster. Please forgive the amateur videography... http://youtu.be/7WGqDWEuaLc I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Your bid is a binding contract. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 100 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I reserve the right to end the auction early for any reason. Transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. International bidders are welcome, but please have U.S. funds and transportation arranged prior to auctions end. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Good luck! |

Porsche looks back on very first 911 Turbo
Wed, 11 Jun 2014Porsche has really hit on a winning formula with its series of videos going inside its vault. So far, we've seen the V8 911 prototype, mid-engine test mule and aerodynamic prototype. The company is sticking with the 911 theme in the latest entry, but this time it's an actual production car - the very first 911 Turbo ever made.
Being the first Turbo would make it important enough, but the car was also a birthday present for Louise Piëch, daughter of Ferdinand Porsche and sister to Ferry Porsche, and she regularly used the car. The family didn't just hand her a random car off the assembly line, either. She got to make it her own with some interesting modifications. She supposedly even painted landscapes from inside the car.
You have to wonder what Piëch thought of her present. The early Turbos had a reputation for being a bit of a handful to drive. The boost tended to bring the power all at once, which wasn't always welcome when cornering. She deserves some honor just for driving the car on the curvy, alpine roads. Scroll down to learn about this important Porsche, and we can't wait to see what car the brand showcases next.
Porsche (finally) unleashes full, official details on 918 Spyder
Mon, 09 Sep 2013Porsche has finally let released all of the details on the 918 Spyder, the German brand's challenger to the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari, after months of leading our poor, performance-loving hearts on. The covers were lifted at the Volkswagen Group night, an enormous precursor to the Frankfurt Motor Show, and include a massive, 11,000-word press release that's attached at the bottom of this page.
The 918 Spyder features a mid-mounted, dry-sump-lubricated, 4.6-liter V8 engine that generates 608 horsepower when left to its own devices. Combined with a trio of electric motors, which produce 286 hp, the total system horsepower for the 918 Spyder rests at 887 ponies. That's less than the McLaren P1 (903 hp) and the LaFerrari (949 hp), but the Porsche is also likely to be a bit cheaper, starting at $845,000, while the McLaren will be in the seven-figure range for certain, and it will more than likely be joined by the LaFezza.
The 918 Spyder counters with a 2.8-second jog to 62, a 7.7-second run to 124 and it will hit 186 in 22 seconds.
Ferrari 458 Speciale vs Porsche 911 GT3 shows what Chris Harris does best
Thu, Nov 27 2014After a brief trip behind a pay wall, British auto journalist Chris Harris is back posting videos for free online, and shorts like this one are the perfect example of why his return is so welcome. Showing up at the damp Anglesey Circuit on the Welsh coast with the Ferrari 458 Speciale and Porsche 911 GT3, Harris ostensibly aims to find the better model. However, the final result really succeeds in showcasing the fun to be had behind the wheels of both supercars, particularly when initiating huge slides around the track. As Harris presents it, the vehicles get through the circuit in somewhat different ways The Ferrari is brash and "feels alive," as he puts it as it screams around the track. Alternatively, the Porsche is a bit more restrained, while still being able to show some emotion. In the end, it comes down to trying to get a controlled lap around Anglesey from this duo, but it's pretty clear that the times don't tell the whole story. If you're in the mood to watch two of the world's premiere supercars wag their tails in the wet, then this video cannot be missed.
