1964 Porsche 356 Sc: All Numbers Matching Rare Sc Coupe, Mechanically Overhauled on 2040-cars
Santa Barbara, California, United States
Offered for sale is our beautiful, solid and all numbers matching 1964 Porsche 356 SC Coupe finished in factory correct Signal Red (6407) over a tan interior and verified with its original Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Just acquired from a private collector in New Hampshire, the car was restored and refinished years ago by its prior owner, including a rebuild of its top specification, 95hp SC engine. With an excellent suspension and standard four wheel disc brakes, the car is as strong running and fun to drive as any 356 we’ve owned, arguably the best vintage back roads weekend driver on the market, the ultimate expression of Porsche’s 356 cornerstone. The car’s Signal Red finish is abundantly presentable,
deep, lustrous and marred only by minimal imperfections, none of which are
evident in any of the pictures. The body is very straight, the door and panel
fits are all good, and the rubber is all in great shape. The chrome has been
redone and remains in good condition, as does all of the glass,
free of any wiper scrapes or rock chips. The chrome wheels and colored crest
hub caps are in great shape, wrapped in tires with plenty of remaining tread.
The car’s interior is equally as clean, the reupholstered tan leather seats and
interior panels showing only negligible wear, the correct, German square-weave
carpets and rubber mats in excellent condition and the headliner without flaw. The
padded dash is in excellent shape and the car retains its original, uncracked
steering wheel, as well as its original Blaupunkt radio. The car’s pans and
battery box were replaced by the prior owner and the undercarriage appears
entirely solid. The boot is neat and correct, housing the original spare wheel,
leather holding strap, changing tools and partial tool kit. In recent months the 356 SC has been reviewed, sorted, and detailed by Porsche marque expert Randy Currier of Holderness, New Hampshire, using only correct and top-quality parts. Among the items addressed: the engine was tuned, the valves were adjusted, the fuel system was fitted with all-new fuel lines and filters, the Solex carburetors were rebuilt and tuned, the cooling-fan drive belt was replaced, and both the motor oil and oil filter were changed. The ignition system benefits from a new condenser, distributor cap, and rotor, and a new battery was installed as well. A primer reservoir supplied by Precision Matters assists in cold-starting ease. New brakes were installed, the suspension was fitted with new kingpins and kingpin links, and all shock absorbers were replaced, as were the rubber axle boots. All wheels were powder-coated for a durable finish and correct original hubcaps with the Porsche crest were fitted. Inside, the seat-adjustment tracks and seat belts were restored, tan leather hold-down straps for the front-mounted spare tire and luggage shelf were installed into their respective locations, and correct floor mats were added. Now this beautiful example is looking for another caring owner who will continue to enjoy it, whether as the beautiful, solid, weekend driver that it is today or as an excellent platform for a top tier restoration in the years to come. With the exception of the Italian supercars, perhaps no other marque has seen its classics generate more consistent appreciation over the last decade than Porsche, and acquiring an original, solid, fully numbers matching, hard to find 356SC is sure to yield rewards, in both monetary terms and enjoyment of ownership. years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d
personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room
for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Porsche (if the price is
right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate
descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and
we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional
inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our
ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper
due diligence before bidding. For
U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the
auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end.
Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end.
Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with
recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the
right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end.
Thanks for your interest. |

Get lost in Evo's sublime 2013 Car of the Year testing
Fri, 08 Nov 2013Every year Evo stages its Car of the Year test, bringing the best performance cars in the world to one location for an epic shootout. This year the magazine pitted eight CotY finalists against each other on Route Napoleon in Southern France - Evo claims it's the "best road in the world" - and then proceeded to nitpick the smallest of faults on each car until the winner could be named. You see, this year's lineup of machines was just so good that only one car obviously wasn't CotY material from the get-go. Can you guess which one judging from the list below?
- Aston Martin V12 Vantage S
- Audi R8 V10 Plus
Porsche Macan fails moose test, Stuttgart responds
Tue, 14 Oct 2014Different countries have different safety standards, but most of them revolve around a similar set of tests: front impact, side impact, offset impact, rollover... the usual. But Sweden has its own test. It's called the Moose Test (or the Elk Test), and it's unique to Scandinavia: a car has to be able to avoid a theoretical antlered mammal on the road while traveling at 43.5 miles per hour and return to its previous course without flipping over. The Jeep Grand Cherokee ran afoul of the uniquely Nordic maneuver a couple of years ago, but even more surprising is the way the Porsche Macan has reacted.
Under testing by Sweden's Teknikens Värld, Porsche's downsized crossover - specifically the Macan S Diesel, for what it's worth - didn't flip over, but it skidded off course. In real-world conditions, it follows, the vehicle could run off the road or into oncoming traffic. The testers ran the test several times, and even removed excess weight from the vehicle, and each time it reacted the same way.
In response, Porsche has explained that the behavior is the result of its Active Rollover Protection system kicking in. When the system detects that the vehicle could drastically oversteer, flip over or lose its tire, it momentarily applies the brake on the front outside wheel, allowing the vehicle to shed the cornering forces without losing it completely.
Former Porsche CEO Wiedeking indicted over VW takeover bid
Thu, 20 Dec 2012Do you recall the failed efforts by Porsche to take over Volkswagen? According to a Bloomberg report, former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter have finally been charged with market manipulation over the exercising of options as part of the German sportscar manufacturer's ill-fated attempt to take over the much larger VW. That failed bid eventually resulted in the reverse coming true - VW swallowing Porsche.
The charges leveled by Stuttgart prosecutors come after a three-year investigation centered around allegations that Porsche execs made a concerted effort to increase the company's share in VW to 75 percent in preparation for a hostile takeover. Porsche had previously told its investors on at least five occasions that it had no intention to buy VW.
Portions of the investigation have subsided, according to prosecutors, citing an inability to prove certain improprieties with a "necessary degree of certainty." The number of charges is down to 5 from a previous 14 counts regarding "information-based market manipulation."
