Overview

This is a very good driver level Porsche 356 C which has been owned by the present owner since June 1981.  Having been driven a total of 112,000 miles the Porsche has been maintained by qualified Porsche mechanics.  It retains its original Light Ivory with black leatherette interior,  according to the COA.

Exterior

The front section of the car was painted in 1992 when it suffered a front end collision which necessitated replacement of the hood, front bumper,  and front fenders.  This work was completed by a professional Porsche repair facility in the Denver, Colorado area.   There is no evidence of any rust in the floor pan, longitudionals, and related undercarriage.  The roof and quarter panels are believed to have the original factory paint.  The panel fit and gaps are good to very good.  There is only very minor pitting to the front bumper and windshield.  The chrome plating is good.

Interior

The original interior, including vinyl seats, door panels, head liner and carpets are in good condition but there  is evidence of normal usage.  The original glass is in good condition and has been tinted.  Included in the sale is the original owner’s manual and maintenance book.

Mechanical

The non-original engine is a 912 model which was completely rebuilt in 1988, with  69,000 miles on the odometer, by Eisenbuds, Inc., a well respected Porsche repair facility in, Denver.  A recent inspection of the car by Eisenbuds revealed excellent leak down numbers of 3%, 3%, 3% and  4%. Eisenbuds has provided professional maintenance and repairs as evidenced by numerous repair orders.  New tires were installed in 2007 and are slightly worn.

Summary

This is a good example of a very desirable Porsche 356 C which needs to be driven and enjoyed.  The car is located in the Denver Colorado area.  Also included are an original 356 Workshop manual, miscellaneous repair and restore manuals, last 5 yrs 356 Registry Library, extra wheel and tire, factory protective body cover and black nose bra.  This beauty is attractively priced well below market and replacement cost.

Watch a Porsche 918 Spyder being built by hand

Sat, Jan 3 2015

No music track, no dialogue, no voiceover, just a group of women and men in a very clean room in Zuffenhausen assembling the Porsche 918 Spyder. It's the antidote to the adrenaline that the open-topped hybrid coupe encourages in most enthusiast bloodstreams, but this nearly-11-minute video is the most captivating B-roll we've seen in a while. From hand-sewn leather to hand-wrapped trim, monococques being wheeled about, the copious use of shims and the rear brace being fitted over the engine, plus the Christmas-like joy of opening a box of body panels, it's all in there. You can't buy a new one anymore, but you can see how they're built for those who did buy them in the video above. Porsche working on turbo V12 for Putin limo project?

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

Porsche is best known for building very well-regarded sports cars and better-selling utility vehicles. Come to the company with a big enough bag of cash, though, and the Porsche Engineering division can create just about anything. The group's past projects include working with Harley-Davidson, Mercedes-Benz and corporate cousin Audi, but if rumors prove true, then its latest partner might be the last one you'd expect.
Russian website Wroom reports that Porsche Engineering is building the engine for the Project Cortege government limousine project for Russian president Vladimir Putin. The mill is supposedly a turbocharged V12 displacing between 6.0- and 6.6-liters and making around 800 horsepower. When complete, it will reportedly be built by ZMZ with Russian-sourced parts.
The limo is expected to debut in 2017, according to Wroom, but it's just the beginning of Putin's grandiose plans, which also goes by the name of the Motorcade Project. The same platform is also meant to underpin several vehicles for use by the government, including an SUV, a small bus and a sedan. All of them would reportedly have a longitudinally mounted engine and all-wheel drive.

1949 Gm?nd Porsche shows the birth of an icon

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

The Austrian village of Gmünd is more than just difficult to pronounce; it's also the birthplace of the Porsche brand. Before the company ever started building sports cars at its current home base near Stuttgart, the fledgling business completed several vehicles in the tiny town in Southern Austria. In this video, former Pikes Peak International Hill Climb champion Jeff Zwart takes a look at a 1949 Gmünd coupe to see how the company has evolved since its earliest days.
The thing to note about the Gmünd-built Porsches is their absolute design simplicity. The phrase "form follows function" gets bandied around a lot, but it really means something when you look at these early cars. However, the minimalism was partially out of necessity. The vehicles were meant to be sporty but certainly weren't rockets. Power came courtesy of a modified Volkswagen Beetle engine, and anything extraneous would have slowed the models down. Scroll down to watch Zwart go back in time to Porsche's beginnings.
