1960 Porsche D'ieteren Roadster, Last Single Grill Roadster Made, Needs Nothing on 2040-cars
Fairfax, Virginia, United States
|
1961 D'Ieteren Roadster. It is the last single grill example made, Nr 89483. The engine is built on a 1960 Normal case, number P604667. A very strong engine, it was rebuilt with Solex carbs, Mahle Ps and Cs, and a mild cam. There was a info sheet with details of the build but at the time of listing it has not been located. MSD distributor and ignition system. 12 Volt electricals, small diameter generator. Painted silver, it was originally finished in Ivory 6004. Gray square weave carpet with binding to match the Lobster leather.
The metal work, body, and mechanicals were done to a very high standard by Lowell Sivey approximately 10 years ago. No rust. It drives beautifully, and honestly needs nothing other than to be driven and maintained. It has been stored in a climate controlled garage, and driven less than 4000 miles since the work was completed. The odometer reads the miles driven since the restoration was completed, not the actual mileage, Routine maintenance was performed as needed. It was restored some years ago, and It is nicer in most ways than many freshly restored examples. The car is available for inspection by appointment in Northern Virginia. The buyer is responsible for timely pickup and shipment of the vehicle, we can suggest a reliable carrier. |

Porsche announces works team for United Sportscar Championship
Tue, 24 Sep 2013Porsche is undoubtedly the most successful manufacturer in sportscar racing, and it's only upping its game. The German marque is launching its new LMP1 racer for Le Mans in pursuit of overall victory once again, and now that sportscar racing in North America is coming together under one banner in the United Sportscar Championship, Porsche has announced it is entering the fray with a works team here as well.
The new Porsche North America racing team will field two cars in the entire inaugural season of the Tudor United Sportscar Championship that's been formed out of the former Grand-Am and American Le Mans Series. The team will be based out of the Porsche Motorsport North America facility in Santa Ana, California, and will partner with three-time ALMS LMPC winners Core Autosport in getting a pair of the latest 911 RSR racecars to the front of the GT Le Mans class.
Drivers have yet to be announced, but are projected to be drawn out of Porsche's factory driver program, which includes such talents as Patrick Long, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Neel Jani. Keep reading below for the official announcement.

Porsche 918 Spyder with Weissach package does 0-62 mph in 2.6 seconds
Mon, 18 Nov 2013Porsche marketers are having a field day with the 918 Spyder after some last-minute tuning improved the car's performance. They now say that it's so fast it's already beaten itself. Let us explain: Using a Weissach package-equipped 918 as an example (which reduces the plug-in hybrid supercar's weight through the deletion of some interior items, more generous use of carbon fiber and magnesium wheels), the car's previous official 0-62 miles-per-hour time of 2.8 seconds has been cut to 2.6. Additionally, 0-124 mph takes 7.2 seconds and 0-186 mph is dispatched in 19.9 seconds, times that were reduced by half a second and 2.1 seconds, respectively.
In all-electric mode, a non-Weissach pack 918 does 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds (with the package, 6.1 seconds), down from 6.9 seconds. Efficiency is also improved thanks to the final tuning. The New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) rating of a Weissach pack-equipped car equates to 94 miles per gallon, up three mpg compared to before. That's pretty good for a car with 887 horsepower!
Check out the press release below for more details on how Porsche's final tuning measures improved its flagship supercar.
