1960 Porsche 356 B, Non-sunroof Coupe on 2040-cars
Katy, Texas, United States
1960 Porsche 356 B, Non-Sunroof Coupe NO RESERVE AUCTION This is a great, unrestored, California car. I purchased it from the 3rd owner, who bought it almost 40 years ago. He bought it from his brother, who had owned it since 1970. The car was registered in Culver City since 1976. Pink Slip pictured. When purchased in 1970, the engine had already been replaced with a 1962 356 B engine (not a Super 90). This car has been sitting in a garage since 1978. It is clean and straight but will need to be gone through. I got my mechanic to clean the tank and the fuel lines, replace all of the fluids, and other essential items and it started right up. I drove it around my area to make sure that it ran. I have video of this. As you can see the car shows very well on the inside and the outside. There are small areas of rust and patina showing under the car but is by no means a rusty tub. Please feel free to schedule and inspection and ask plenty of questions before you bid. Seller will assist with shipping at the Buyer's expense. Happy Bidding. No Reserve Auction. |

Porsche's 959 is still poster-worthy after all these years
Thu, 24 Jul 2014Today, we have the Porsche 918 Spyder. Before that, there was the Carrera GT. While both of those cars are dramatic departures from the traditional, rear-engine Porsche formula, they owe their very existence to another wild child of the iconic German brand - the 959.
Like so many of the great performance cars of yesteryear, the 959 was a homologation special, built just so Porsche could go racing in the clinically insane Group B rally series. Fewer than 400 959s hit the streets, but those that did were some of the most advanced cars of the 1980s. A rear-mounted, twin-turbocharged flat-six sent its power through a still-rare all-wheel-drive system, creating a race-inspired rocket that was, for a short time, the fastest production car on the planet.
Xcar has the story of the 959, from its inception to its conquest of the Paris-Dakar rally, which is interspersed with a drive of the legendary coupe. Scroll down for the full video.
Porsche announces plan to replace 911 GT3 engines
Wed, 19 Mar 2014About a month back, we reported that Porsche was suspending delivery of its 911 GT3 due to reported incidents of the engine bursting into flames. A few days later, Porsche told owners of the new track-ready models not to drive their cars and had their local dealers pick up the cars in question. Just a couple of days ago, we reported that Porsche was working on a fix, and now we have the official details.
Following an internal investigation prompted by two such incidents, Porsche has confirmed that is has identified the problem as resulting "from a loosened screw joint on the connecting rod." The loose connecting rod, Porsche found, damaged the crankcase, which in turn resulted in oil leaking and then - in at least two cases - igniting.
Our source is unaware of Porsche being contacted by GT3 owners concerned about the impact of a replacement engine on their car's collectibility or resale value.
2015 Porsche 911 GTS widens your rear-engined choices
Fri, Nov 21 2014"Porsche needs to offer more versions of the 911" is not a phrase you'll hear uttered often. Not with 15 versions already in the catalog. But with the opening of this year's LA Auto Show, Porsche has introduced four more to bring the total up to nineteen variants. And more are no doubt on the way. What you're looking at is the new Porsche 911 GTS, which has grown from one model in the previous generation to four. Buyers will be able to choose between rear- or all-wheel drive and between coupe and cabriolet body-styles, but either way they'll be looking at a 3.8-liter flat six with 430 horsepower. That slots it in between the base Carrera and the GT3, but unlike the hardcore latter, it can be had with choice of manual or dual-clutch transmission – bringing the available configurations of 911 GTS up to eight. Spec the DCT and you'll be reaching 60 in as little as 3.8 seconds, but the pleasure won't come cheap: prices range from $114,200 for the rear-drive coupe to $132,800 for the all-wheel-drive cabrio, plus another $995 for delivery. But for that much scratch you also get the Powerkit, Sport Chrono package, wider track, lower suspension, Xenon headlamps, Alcantara trim, 20-inch alloys and more all thrown in as standard.
