Up for sale is my 1959 Porsche 356A coupe, owned for a long period by a doctor who maintained the car meticulously with a receipt in hand showing the following was done at 80344 miles (80685 miles are on the car now): Remove and Replace Engine Replace pressure plate, clutch disc and throw-out bearing; Set end play and install Viton flywheel seal; Adjust valves Clean valve covers and install new gaskets; Change Oil and filter; Remove and replace sump plate and repair leak at rivet; Perform leak down test: 1: 98 2: 98 3: 94 4: 97 Perform compression test: 1: 150lb 2: 180lbs 3. 150lbs 4: 165lbs Check Oil pressure: Cold idle: 40 psi Check Oil pressure: Hot idle: 35psi Check Oil pressure: 2500 rpm: Cold: 45-50 psi; Hot: 55+ psi Replace steering coupler; Remove and replace front pulley, new Viton oil seal; Remove generator stand, replace gasket; Remove oil filler, replace seal; Remove distributor, replace seal; Remove and replace carburetors: clean, set floats and injection ratio; Clean oil air filters; Replace spark plugs and air seals; Remove and replace intake manifolds, replace with proper engine tin; Remove exhaust and replace all gaskets; Remove heater control unit and replace; Adjust shift linkage; Replace coil; Fabricate correct fuel lines; Change fuel filter; Check Distributor dwell and set the timing; Balance carburetors and adjust linkage; Replace carb pre-heat operating shaft and adjust; Install throttle stop and adjust; Install clutch cable and adjust; Replace fan belt; Clean engine; Remove fuel from gas tank, flush fuel lines, clean fuel pump; 25 hours at $90 per hour: $2250; Parts: $1850 (I have the itemized receipt with the list of parts). Additionally the brakes were rebuilt with new wheel cylinders all the way around for a total cost of $1465 on 5/24/14 (receipt in hand). As you can see the previous owner has done a lot to keep the car in top mechanical condition and very drivable. The engine is a 912 (616/40 is stamped on the bolt boss under the generator) and it starts and runs just beautifully. I have driven this car and it is just a pleasure to jump in, turn the key and it starts right up and off you go! Tires are excellent, chrome wheels present well, and brakes stop the car well. The paint is older with much patina, that is to say, there is some crazing in the paint. Previous owner said that paint was done many years ago. It is maroon/purple, a color that was used on Porsche 911s in the 1970s. The previous owner also said to me that he believed the interior to be original and that the car was actual mileage of 80, 685 although he said he didn't get the documentation to support this. I have taken over 180 photos and posted them to this link: We also have 2 videos: Test drive: http://youtu.be/lK1cGft5RLo Engine at idle: http://youtu.be/_MvNUUgOd8k All gauges work, speedometer, odometer, windshield wipers, headlights, turn signals, gas gauge and engine temperature gauge; horn is not working; hand brake works, windows go up and down easily and smoothly; doors closely well and have that characteristic Porsche "thunk" when they close. Door lock works with key. Front and rear closing panels are excellent as are the floors and battery box with no rust evident. Door bottoms are very nice and show no rust as well. All gaps are even on the doors and hood and engine lid. It appears that the car has never been in an accident. There is a small dent on the passenger side top of the fender where something (like a ladder) fell on it and put a slight crease on the fender. Please see the picture. You can buy with confidence. This is a really nice well maintained car over the years, one that is increasingly hard to find as a very nice dependable driver. It has classic lines and draws a crowd wherever it is parked. We are a licensed and bonded and insured auto dealer in North Carolina and we have an "A+" rating with the Better Business Bureau. Our dealership is: T.J. Auto, Inc., 1312 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27603. The title to the vehicle is in hand and everything is in order on our end. We can assist with domestic and international shipping (buyer pays for shipping). Remembering Porsche's illustrious Le Mans history
Fri, 13 Jun 2014Not only does this weekend mark the running of the 82nd 24 Hours of Le Mans, it will also see the return of one of the race's most venerable brands to the top tiers of endurance racing. Porsche will campaign its first top-flight car since the 1998 911 GT1-98, the 919 Hybrid, at this weekend's race, in the hopes of knocking off its corporate rival, the dominant Audi team.
To understand just what a win for the 919 would mean, though, you need to look back on the intrinsic connection between the Circuit de la Sarthe and Porsche. It's a history that spans decades, dating back to the team's first win in 1970.
XCar has a great video on that history. At 25 minutes, it's a bit on the long side. Then again it is the Friday before Le Mans. Take a look below for the video.
Porsche acquires ANDIAL, will integrate with in-house motorsports
Sat, 16 Feb 2013Porsche has purchased longtime motorsports and tuning house ANDIAL.
The Fountain Valley, California-based tuning house ANDIAL has been around since 1975, when it was formed by the Arnold Wagner, Dieter Inzenhofer and Alwin Springer (the company got its name by combining two letters from each of their names). The three men met while working in a Porsche dealership in Southern California and then left to start a business that would put Porsches in victory lane all over the country.
Porsches prepared by ANDIAL won IMSA GT and Supercar Series championships, the SCCA World Challenge, four Pikes Peak class titles and the 24 Hours of Daytona six times. Alwin Springer left the company in 1997 to run Porsche Motorsport North America until 2004 and remains a consultant with PMNA, Wagner passed away in 2011 and Inzenhofer plans to retire this year. ANDIAL is still a going concern, Inzenhofer presiding over a scaled-down engine parts and restoration business. But Inzenhofer is retiring at month's end, making it a good time for Porsche to step in and take over the company's operations.
