1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D on 2040-cars
Clearwater, Florida, United States
The opportunity came along to buy one of the very rare examples of Porsche history so don't miss out!
This vehicle is one of only about 500 remaining Convertible D's of the 1300 ever produced. This Porsche is a driver. This vehicle is a driver. This Convertible D had a complete restoration in 1998 and at that time was up graded to a Super 90 engine serial number 801448. It was invited to the Speedster 50th in June of 2004 and was freshed up for the trip. That included a complete paint job which is outstanding. It has Talbot mirrors, tonnaeu cover and carpet inserts for the front floors and a shop manual. I also have a car cover and a car bag for safe storage......The vehicle runs great, steers great and stops great. I often tell my wife it purrs like a kitten.......A couple of things I want to point out there is a small seam separation on the convertible top behind the drivers door (there is a picture) and I had black sheep skin seat covers on it for a while and the dye bled onto the seat covers in a few areas......This exact vehicle was featured on the cover of the September 1994 Porsche Panorama with Roland Lohnert behind the wheel when Ralph Riley was the owner. Don't miss out on a chance to buy this beautiful Convertible D........Please contact with any questions about the vehicle. More photos available. Shipping World Wide |

Porsche announces plan to replace 911 GT3 engines
Wed, 19 Mar 2014About a month back, we reported that Porsche was suspending delivery of its 911 GT3 due to reported incidents of the engine bursting into flames. A few days later, Porsche told owners of the new track-ready models not to drive their cars and had their local dealers pick up the cars in question. Just a couple of days ago, we reported that Porsche was working on a fix, and now we have the official details.
Following an internal investigation prompted by two such incidents, Porsche has confirmed that is has identified the problem as resulting "from a loosened screw joint on the connecting rod." The loose connecting rod, Porsche found, damaged the crankcase, which in turn resulted in oil leaking and then - in at least two cases - igniting.
Our source is unaware of Porsche being contacted by GT3 owners concerned about the impact of a replacement engine on their car's collectibility or resale value.
Porsche calls in The Committee for Boxster and Cayman GTS
Thu, 20 Mar 2014Porsche is set to offer up the very first GTS variants of its more affordable Boxster convertibles and Cayman coupes. This is very good news for enthusiasts. Aside from our original post announcing the hotted up models, though, Porsche hasn't given us much to go on.
And you know what? This video isn't much of help either. It's called The Committee, and we're guessing it's meant to highlight the lengths that Porsche went to in designing what are essentially sportier trim levels for its two most affordable entries. Still, it's a stylized and entertaining video with a few entertaining driving scenes scattered throughout, and it gives just a small glimpse of Porsche's view of the vaunted GTS badge.
Take a look below for the full video.
Mercedes-AMG GT vs. Porsche 911 [w/poll]
Thu, 11 Sep 2014Mercedes-Benz designed the AMG GT to compete head-on with the Porsche 911. It's a clear, singular purpose, and Benz brings a lot of money, technology and race-bred expertise to the fight.
The AMG GT is Merc's followup to the awesome SLS AMG, the retro-modern, gullwing-doored coupe that took us by storm half a decade ago. But this new GT coupe is a more focused sports car than the SLS, rather than an all out supercar capable of extreme performance. It's got a brand-new V8 engine, and state-of-the-art technology that help it to not only be a proper Mercedes, but to be a serious performer.
Mercedes will sell its new baby in two models. The GT S arrives first, in spring 2015, followed by the standard GT in mid-2016. Of course, there's room to grow from there. And while Porsche may have already expanded its 911 range to include a vast variety of models, here's how Stuttgart's icon stacks up against Affalterbach's bad boy.
