Greetings. Up for auction is a very rare 1977 Y81 W72 4-Speed Trans Am. This is one of only 384 Special Edition Trans Ams that came off the assembly line with the combination of: hardtop (Y81), high performance T/A 6.6 400 cu in Pontiac engine (W72) and 4-speed Borg Warner Super T-10 manual transmission (M21). Only approximately 14 of these rare birds are known to exist today.

This vehicle was delivered at Winkel Pontiac Buick GMC in Reno, Nevada. It is PHS documented with only 30,891 DMV certified miles on the odometer.

The paint on this car is new and in excellent condition. It is very straight. A repaint was necessary because sometime in its life the TA was repainted GTA gunmetal grey, presumably in the late 80's when the GTA popularized this color.  It has GM licensed Phoenix Graphics and preformed striping. Amazingly, all four wheel spoilers, the chin spoiler, and even the front spoiler to lower front spoiler brackets are original to the car and molded in black plastic as they came from the factory. The floor and trunk pans are solid and original to the car.

The drivetrain on this vehicle has remained virtually unmolested all these years. The matching numbers 400 is bone stock with the exception of maintenance items and a high voltage Accel Supercoil. The transmission has correct matching VIN serial number, and shifts tight and smooth like a knife thorough butter. There are no leaks to speak of. The stock 3.23 rear end has been serviced with posi additive and runs quietly. The exhaust still retains its original catalytic converter, single exhaust, and dual tailpipes with dual chrome splitters. Some time in the past the transverse muffler has been upgraded to a Flowmaster in the stock location and configuration. The Flowmaster provides a great throaty exhaust tone while adding performance. With the exception of some under hood detailing, the undercarriage of the vehicle remains untouched. The chassis has the expected patina of a 36 year old car, however there has been no undercoating to hide anything.

The interior is original with the exception of new bucket seat upholstery, Clarion tape deck and a steering wheel upgrade. The steering wheel is a stock gold anodized wheel that has been covered in genuine hand stitched leather with 1/8" padding for that fat grip feel. The carpet, headliner, dash, console and door panels are factory original and in excellent condition with the exception of the headliner which had to be re-glued in spots.

This car runs and drives excellent, as good or better than off the showroom floor. There are the usual body squeaks and rattles typical of these unibody cars, but no knocks, ticks or smoke whatsoever.

Please direct all questions to the Q&A section below so questions can be answered and posted. This vehicle is sold as is.

Thank you for viewing my auction. Good luck and happy bidding.

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.
