1961 Pontiac Tempest With Ho350 Engine, Custom One Of A Kind on 2040-cars

|
This beautiful first year Pontiac Tempest has undergone a comprehensive restoration completed in 2006. Originally starting life as a four door sedan, with a 194 four cylinder and "Corvair style" rear mounted transmission and swing arm suspension; this ride has had a few modifications. Fully converted to a two door with the installation of a transmission tunnel, coil suspended ford rear differential including posi-traction. Engine appointments include a heavy duty aluminum radiator, dual electric fans very adequately cooling a new 330hp, 380lb-ft HO350 GM crate engine based on the small block Chevrolet. Full experience appointments include power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power windows, door poppers and remote power windows. The exhaust system includes headers connected to 2-1/2 inch dual exhaust through "turbo" style mufflers. Interior includes a custom metal color matched counsel with digital gauges providing for the oil pressure, temperature and voltage. Tilt steering with a color matched leather wrapped steering wheel to complement the beige interior seat inserts and headliner. Front bucket seats include a power drivers side and the side windows are tinted laminated glass with tinted film applied to rear glass. A new windscreen was installed during the restoration as wall all rubber seals, belt line seals, slides and window guides, including trunk and hood seals. Trunk is finished with spare tire cover and includes some documentation as indicated in the pictures. Color matched steel fender skirts are also included with the car. This vehicle starts and drives excellent with strong, aggressive power band. I have shown this vehicle quite a few times across the state. It has been in local newspapers, has won awards as well as local acceleration tests with other classic car owners. Driving this car just plain gets attention. This Tempest weighs less that 3000lbs and was originally sold aside the Chevy II and Dodge Dart classes in the early 60's. GM produced this body in three versions; Pontiac Tempest, Buick Special and the Oldsmobile F85 with only the Tempest having the unique Zora Duntov designed front engine, rear transaxle arrangement. I have driven a few thousand miles on this restoration, but have maintained its cleanliness. The drivers seat, door handles and generally those areas that are touched, tasted or felt have signs of use. There are rock chips in the rear quarters and on the fender skirts and very few bug chips on the front of the vehicle. My wife and I genuinely take care of all six of our classic cars but we also drive all of them and I maintain them mechanically. I will publicly post questions and responses that can help any bidder with this process. If you are interested in owning this vehicle, ask away. |

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi
Sat, Jun 19 2021The General's Pontiac Division sold Bonnevilles from 1958 through 2005, which turned out to be well over half of the marque's existence. Named after the Bonneville Salt Flats, some Bonnevilles were huge but pretty quick, others were slow-motion land yachts, and some were nearly indistinguishable from their Buick and Oldsmobile brethren. The final generation, sold for the 2000 through 2005 model years, were among the quickest and most distinctive-looking Bonnevilles ever built, but they arrived in showrooms at a time when the clock was ticking for the division's very survival. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those cars, an '01 with the hot-rod SSEi package. The Bonneville SSEi first appeared in the 1992 model year, just a year after the Buick Park Avenue Ultra was the first of many GM cars to get the 3.8-liter Buick V6 with an Eaton supercharger bolted on top. Production of the Bonneville SSEi continued through the 2003 model year, after which the GXP version and its Cadillac Northstar V8 took over. The 2001 version of this engine made 240 horsepower, good for plenty of torque-steery fun. Could you get this car with a manual transmission? What do you think? Some cursory research indicates that 1970 was the last model year for a three-pedal Bonneville, and even those cars must be incredibly rare. This one looks to have been in nice shape when it arrived here, with the original manuals still in the glovebox. By 2006, the Bonneville was gone; four years later, Pontiac was gone. One of Burt Reynolds' favorite cars could be yours
Fri, Apr 12 2019LOS ANGELES — One of Burt Reynolds' favorite cars is going up for auction in June along with some of his cowboy boots, hats, sports jackets and other items from his estate, Julien's Auctions said on Friday. The two-day auction in Beverly Hills, authorized by the actor's family, comes almost a year after the death at age 82 of the charming star who was one of Hollywood's favorite actors. The highlight of the auction is a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am car that Reynolds used on photo shoots and drove on the Bandit Run cross country rally, which re-enacts the journey at the center of his 1977 film "Smokey and the Bandit." The car, which Reynolds co-owned with his business partner Gene Kennedy, is expected to fetch up to $500,000 at auction, Julien's said in a statement. Two pairs of leather cowboy boots — one red and one yellow — are also offered for sale with estimates ranging from $800 to $2,000 a pair, along with two cowboy hats. Reynolds started out as a football player at Florida State University (FSU) before injuries suffered in a car crash wrecked his hopes of a professional career. But his attachment to FSU remained strong. The auction includes several custom or personalized FSU baseball, basketball and varsity jackets. Other highlights include an oil on canvas painting of the actor's favorite horse titled "Cartouche," which carries an estimate of $20,000 - $30,000. Other art works, furniture and dozens of personal items are also being offered for sale. The auction will take place in Beverly Hills on June 15 and 16, and will be preceded by a public exhibition of some of the items from June 10-14. Reynolds, who was also known for the 1960s television series "Gunsmoke" and the movies "Deliverance" and "Boogie Nights,"" died of a heart attack in Florida in September 2018. Burt Reynolds' personal 1977 Trans-Am from Smokey And The Bandit for sale
Fri, Dec 5 2014Smokey and the Bandit is one of those quintessential 1970s car movies with insane premises but tons of fun. After all, the basic plot of the film is about distracting the police to transport cases of Coors beer cross country. While Burt Reynolds receives top billing, the real star is definitely his black Pontiac Trans-Am. Now, there's a chance to posses one of these muscle machines actually owned by Reynolds, and it's already proving quite popular. The car is a '77 Trans-Am with the famous, gold screaming chicken proudly on the hood. However, while this is a piece of Reynolds memorabilia, it's not really part of cinematic history. According to the listing, this example was used as a promotional vehicle and then given to Reynolds with a title showing him as a previous owner for proof. Still, there's 400-cubic-inch (6.55-liter) V8 under the hood with a 4-barrel carburetor and an automatic transmission. A plaque inside the driver's door proclaims the car as a "1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds," and there's a Bandit logo on the door. This is just one lot of Julien Auction's sale of Reynolds memorabilia on December 11 and 12 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Bidding is already running online, and the Trans-Am is up to $130,000, as of this writing. For the true Reynolds fanatic, the auction also lists the motorized stagecoach from his wedding to Loni Anderson. It rides built on an International Harvester Scout frame with an interior reportedly from Dolly Parton.
