I am offering at auction, my prized 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J award winning show car.
You are looking at quite possibly the most beautiful and highly detailed Pontiac Grand Prix in existence. Designed and built for the purpose of competing at shows and winning. This is truly a "1 of a kind" vehicle.
I am the second owner of this classic GP. I purchased it 10 years ago from the estate of the original owners widow in Long Beach California, where it spent its entire life. The original owner purchased it new from Casey Beckham Pontiac of Anaheim California. This was a solid unmolested survivor with only 39000 miles showing at the time of my purchase. It had sat untouched in dry storage after the death of its original owner. It was very presentable when I received it , still carrying all of its original lacquer paint . This car had never seen a body shop! But time had aged it somewhat. It ran and drove fine for the first year of my ownership. However early in 2004 I set out to make this GP a star! It was disassembled and given a complete body-on-frame restoration. I did not find it necessary to remove the body shell from the frame and wanted to preserve that originality. everything else was disassembled, removed, cleaned and rebuilt or replaced with the best parts available. Every nut ,bolt, clip, retainer, etc was addressed. I wanted this car to be a true standout of detail for show competition. And I also wanted a fully dependable "as new" classic for occasional cruising!
Please note , And I STRESS, This was NOT a barn car or "throw together" for the purpose of a "flip" for profit. This was a serious labor of love for the classic car hobby. I have driven my GP approx. 9000 miles since restoring, and enjoyed every minute behind the wheel. Make no mistake this is a show car that CAN be driven anywhere with complete confidence.
I have won more awards than I have walls and shelves to display them! This includes two wins at the prestigious Adirondack Nationals in Lake George NY. My GP was also featured on invitation at the 2012 International Auto Showcase at the New York State fairgrounds in Syracuse NY. This car turns heads and gets attention wherever it goes. Not just another GTO, Firebird or Camaro ,this is a very unique car, that brings back memories to everyone who sees it.
I have truly enjoyed all of my experiences with this beauty, however my wife and I are planning for retirement in a year or two and my interests are changing. It is for this reason that I feel that it is time to let someone else care for and enjoy my creation. I have outlined the car in specific detail.
Body; Rust free California car. All original sheet-metal including floor and trunk pans. Original factory lacquer stripped and refinished in its original color of "Palisade Green" Base/Clear PPG products. NOTE: the body was painted apart to achieve a seamless finish. NO TAPE LINES! All jambs are smooth and glossy. All body panel seams are perfect crisp original. Panel alignment is perfect, all body gaps even and consistent. Vinyl top was replaced with an NOS correct pebble-grain Pepper Green top. This was a find , as this particular color top had been out of production for about 15 years! All bright trim straightened and polished. Bumpers are re-plated in custom Show-Chrome. All weather-stripping replaced with Soft-Seal. Windshield was replaced for some small scratches and the top shading was discolored. All other glass is perfect, no scratches! doors ,hood and trunk open and close perfectly, "as new".
Interior: Pepper-green upholstery is 90% original and as new. Dash, door panels and console are perfect. I small crack in console on curve behind shifter. Near impossible to see. Console cover lid was correctly recovered. Carpets and rear package tray are new. Custom made matching carpet Pontiac logo floor-mats, have never felt shoes, always covered when in use. Instrument panel is clear and crisp. I added the correct factory Rallye gauge cluster. The clock works when it feels like it! Factory AM/FM radio is in place and works but was disconnected in favor of a Sony AM/FM/CD stereo receiver hidden under the drivers seat and operated with a wireless remote control. There is an Alpine V-12 neatly installed in the trunk behind the back seat. A pair of Kicker 6X9's reside under the rear deck and are invisible under the mesh package tray. There is a pair of 1 " Pyle super tweeters at the top of the "A" trim. There is also a Pioneer 6 disc CD changer neatly and conveniently mounted in the trunk. Its remote is on the inside of the console lid. All of the stereo is virtually invisible until you turn it up! All seatbelts and shoulder harnesses are perfect. The car has power windows that work perfect and tight.
Trunk; All original pans. Floor refinished in correct speckle paint and body color where correct. New mat and cardboard fillers. Original jack . Brand new spare tire on correct 14"X7" rallye wheel.
Undercarriage and suspension; Completely disassembled. All parts cleaned. All control arms, sway bars, brake backing plates sandblasted and powder coated. Floor pans cleaned and painted single stage body color. Frame painted with Eastwood satin chassis black. All bushings replaced with Energy Suspension Urethane. boxed rear lower control arms and rear sway bar added. New TRW coil springs. New KYB Gas-Adjust shock absorbers. All new Moog or TRW ball-joints, tie rod ends and sleeves, center link , idler arm. Power steering box cleaned and re-sealed. New brake flex hoses. All new brake components. I replaced the 10 bolt open rearend with a correct 12 bolt. Cleaned , painted with Eastwood semi-gloss. New Richmond posi-traction differential . Nos GM 3.31 gears. all new bearings and seals.
Engine, Transmission; Born-with, matching number "XH" code 350 Hp 400 Pontiac. Disassembled , thermo-cleaned, bored .030 and honed. Crank cleaned ,measured magna-fluxed and polished. Connecting rods re-sized to original spec. Entire assembly balanced. New cam bearings, freeze plugs, gaskets. Sealed power bearings and rings. TRW hypereutectic pistons. mild Crower hydraulic cam & lifters and matyching springs. Melling oil pump. Original #13 heads, thermo-cleaned, trued, hardened exhaust seats installed, valve job. New stock rocker arms and pushrods.
Nothing catches the eye under the hood of a classic Pontiac like the sight of an original Tri-Power, so I sourced a complete setup from a 66' 421 and completely restored it to factory original, right down to the air filters, carb tags, fuel lines and linkage! The engine bay of this car is a jaw-dropper. To keep a factory appearance , I installed a Pertronix ignitor II electronic ignition module in the stock distributor, with an OEM style cap ,coil and plug wires. there is an MSD 6AL ignition box neatly hidden above the driver side inner fender. I wanted it to look as if the factory built it this way, and it DOES! Exhaust is handled by a Jet-Hot coated pair of Hooker Competition headers. A Flow-master American Thunder 2 1/2" exhaust rounds out the system with welded chrome tips. This engine runs like a Rolex watch! Starts immediately and has a very nice subdued rumble. Nice in gear idle quality. Until you call on all three Rochester carbs, and then it comes alive! You can drive this car anywhere. I have taken some highway "joy rides" and it will pull 23 Miles Per Gallon at 65 MPH ! The turbo 400 transmission was given a complete rebuild. I installed a slightly increased stall speed (approx. 2400 rpm) torque converter and a chrome trans pan. The drive-shaft was sandblasted and painted and received new U-joints and was balanced. Engine and trans mounts are new. A correct Delco-Morraine brake booster and master cylinder was installed. There is also a new heater core, all belts ,hoses and "tower-style clamps". A new Delco A/C compressor was installed as the original was frozen. All other A/C components were checked and re-installed. However I have never had the system charged. I could not bring myself to take this to a shop where someone else would be leaning across the fenders! Correct style OEM Pontiac chrome valve covers were used. The alternator is also chrome. A new 4 row radiator keeps this beauty running around 170 degrees. Also a new Heavy Duty fan clutch. No cooling issues! Delco rebuilt starter, new battery cables and High Capacity Delco Energizer battery. I had the hood hinges powder coated in a very attractive gun-metal finish.
The Rest; The GP currently rides on traditional polished 15" X 7" American Torque Thrust wheels with BFGoodrich radial T/A's. I also have ,and will include all 4 original correct 14" x7" PMD Rally II wheels. These are fully restored and complete. Over the years I have switched back and forth between these wheels. The car looks GREAT either way! There is a Holley red electric fuel pump neatly hidden above the rear axle. If you want to open up the "triples" I did not want to risk the stock mechanical pump not keeping up.
More; Every nut and bolt was either blasted and painted or replaced with a correct piece. I have the build-sheet which goes with the car. I am also including the original owners manual and two Original show room brochures. I also have a 4" file of receipts that will go with it.
Even More! As I am done , at least for a while, with the car show hobby, I will include with this car the entire display setup shown in the indoor show photos. This includes the special drive up ramps, stancions and rails, mirrors, lighting and all custom made wiring . The only thing seen in these photos NOT included are my awards, and custom signs, which are "keep sakes". I spent over 2K on this display alone, and I am including this as a bonus for the new owner.
In summary, you will not find a more completely restored, and specifically detailed Pontiac anywhere. This car runs and drives like no vehicle you have ever driven. Smooth ,tight and solid with the feel of pure American muscle! And it needs NOTHING to Cruise, Show and WIN!!

GM recalling 70k Chevy Malibus, Pontiac G6s over steering issue
Sun, Feb 15 2015A problem with the power steering system in the Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 has prompted General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall for an estimated 69,633 vehicles. The issue revolves around the electric power steering assist, which could suddenly fail and increase the risk of a crash, especially at low speeds where the power steering is most helpful. The recall affects 2006-2007 Chevy Malibu sedans and Malibu Maxx wagons (specifically those manufactured between April 1, 2006, and June 30, 2006), as well as the Pontiac G6 (which was offered as a sedan, coupe or convertible) from the same model years and manufactured from April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. Owners of the affected units can expect to hear from the manufacturer with instructions to bring in their vehicles to their local dealers to have the torque sensors in the power steering system replaced. RECALL Subject : Sudden Loss of Electric Power Steering , 1 INVESTIGATION(S) Report Receipt Date: FEB 04, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V064000 Component(s): STEERING Potential Number of Units Affected: 69,633 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving. CONSEQUENCE: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum
Tue, Aug 27 2019Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles. The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.
How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car
Fri, 17 Oct 2014Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.
