1969 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J Barn Find

The Grand Prix was introduced by Pontiac in 1962 replacing the Ventura. It was essentially a standard Catalina with minimal outside chrome trim and a sportier interior with bucket seats as well as a center console. In 1969 DeLorean ordered the development of an all new Grand Prix which was smaller, lighter, had its own body and brought a new level of style and luxury to the intermediate class. The new body had a Coke bottle shape as well as other styling cues from the Duesenberg as well as the longest hood Pontiac ever produced which gave the Grand Prix a feel of high luxury without the high cost. This particular car has been sitting on blocks for over 15 years and is a true barn find. It is equipped with a 350hp 400ci V8, a Turbo 400 tranny and a 10 bolt posi rear end with 3:23 gears. Other options on this car include A/C, 15” rally rims, power windows, power locks, tilt, power steering, power brakes and front disc brakes. The A/C compressor has been removed and is in the trunk. The stereo is an aftermarket shaft stereo so the dash was not cut to install it. It was just completely serviced which included fresh oil, a new oil filter, spark plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires and a new air filter. The tranny was also serviced which included a new filter, gasket and fluids. The brakes were just gone through as well. It also has a new fuel pump, new fuel lines, a new alternator and a new battery. It currently has a small exhaust leak which is really the only thing in need of immediate attention should you want to drive this car as is. The only other concerns are that the center cap for the steering wheel is missing and the blinkers are not working. This would make a great driver or a great restoration project. We have priced this car below the low N.A.D.A. value for a quick sale so don’t wait to call us if you like what you see!

Baseball team to dress like Trans Am, complete with screaming chicken

Fri, Feb 8 2019

Come to think of it, the Screaming Chicken actually sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team. Well, it isn't, but the famous logo of the same name that graced the hood of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am will at least be making it to a baseball uniform this summer. The Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be rocking these special uniforms to honor the late Burt Reynolds and his film Smokey and the Bandit. By default, it will also be honoring the car the movie made famous: the 1977 Trans Am painted black with gold trim and, of course, the screaming chicken on the hood. This is a pretty good history of the emblem. So why the Lugnuts and Burt Reynolds? Although he claimed to be born in Georgia for much of his career, he admitted in a 2015 autobiography that he was in fact born in Lansing, Mich. After a few years, his family settled in Florida. Not exactly hometown hero stuff, but minor league baseball promotions have been made of more tenuous connections. The Burt Reynolds tribute night will be July 20, and if you want to get a screaming chicken jersey for yourself (I mean, wouldn't they be perfect for a cars and coffee?), the game-used jerseys will be auctioned off for charity after the game.

Trans Am Depot teases 2014 GTO

Mon, 24 Jun 2013

Here comes the Judge. Court is in session. The verdict is in. How many more tired clichés can we come up with? It hardly seems to matter, because it's happening: Trans Am Depot has announced via the teaser video below that it is launching a 2014 GTO, complete with Carousel Red (bright orange, really) paint and full Judge badging.
The car is based on Trans Am Depot's 6T9 Goat, which, in case you don't get the reverential references, is meant to mimic the look of the 1969 Pontiac GTO. As with the company's other cars -including the 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am we recently drove - the GTO will be based on the current Chevy Camaro, which means two doors, V8 engines and rear-wheel drive, just like the muscle cars of days past.
As for actual details of what's under the 2014 GTO's hood, we're completely left hanging. We'd expect some sort of power adder (turbo, supercharger or possibly some other form of a highly massaged version of the Camaro's V8), and we certainly know that GM has any number of hi-po crate engines to choose from.

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?

Fri, May 27 2016

When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
