Black 1997 Pontiac Grand Am Gt - Needs Repair (car, Vehicle, Automobile, Cheap) on 2040-cars
Simpsonville, South Carolina, United States
I am selling this vehicle as is. It is a black 1997 Pontiac Grand Am GT, 6 cylinder automatic. It had 267,896 miles last time I did maintenance, so its a bit higher now. I am the second owner of this car, and obtained it in 2005. It was in great condition when it came to me, and I've taken care of it, but time has worn it out a little. I can only list 4 pics for free, but if you message me I think I can reply and attach more photos if you'd like to see them. The car has been amazingly reliable, and had very few problems over the years. Regular maintenance (kept records), and early precautions kept it from ever having any major engine problems. I actually chose to get another pontiac due to the positive experience, and reliability, I got out of this one. I was still driving it, and everything was going working properly, until this week when it began to overheat. I had the water pump replaced, but after a day it began to overheat again. I drove it to be repaired and stopped three times to let it cool down, however on the fourth stop it started really clanking and shut off completely (so I had it towed). It wasn't the car's fault, I should have called triple AAA instead of driving further when it was still so hot. So I've been told that, at this point, the radiator is bad and the engine also needs some work. It was running perfectly prior to this, so the overheating caused some damage (and more noise than normal). It runs (noisily), and moves, but as it is, I wouldn't expect to drive it very far or fast (due to the overheating). I'm selling it for parts, or repair. Its been an amazing car to me, and I hate to see it go, but it was time for an upgrade for me anyway, so I've chosen to do that rather than have this one repaired. But I really believe this could still be a great little car to someone out there, once the radiator issue is resolved. On the plus side, it has: A full tank of gas Also, it has accurate cruise control, the air conditioning is super cold, the heat works great, it has power locks (the locks engage automatically when the car is put in drive), with a working key fab, power windows (controls for all windows included on drivers side too, as well as working window lock), a working AM/FM radio with CD player, and powerful sound. Note: The stereo in the picture will be removed, and either left empty, and give you the original radio for this car seperately (ask for pics), or the original will already be installed again when you receive it. I'm not sure which yet. It also has driver and passenger airbags, all working seatbelts, adjustable seats, decent interior with no major tears or stains, working overhead/reading lights, rear window defrost, working winsheild wipers (do need replacing), and a cigarette lighter. Theres a roomy trunk, and storage space in the glovebox, console, and tray beneath the radio, as well as pockets on the back of the seats. The headlights & brights work well, as well as brake lights, turn signals, emergency blinker signal, and fog lights (one needs replacing). It comes with the manual, maintenance records, two key fabs, two keys, and one fabric door panel. I know she'll be as great to you as she was to me! |

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall
Fri, 21 Feb 2014Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.
GM Recalls 1.5 Million Cars For Steering Defect
Tue, Apr 1 2014General Motors Co. said Monday it is recalling 1.5 million vehicles worldwide because the electronic power-steering assist can suddenly stop working, making them harder to steer. The new recall brings to 6.3 million the number of vehicles GM has recalled since February. The initial recall - now at 2.6 million small cars for an ignition switch defect - prompted the automaker to name a new safety chief and speed up the review of cases that might lead to recalls. GM said it expects recall-related costs to total $750 million in the first quarter, including $300 million for the ignition switch recall. Included in the new recall are: - Chevrolet Malibu from the 2004-2005 model years, plus some 2006, 2008 and 2009 model-year cars. - Chevrolet Malibu Maxx from the 2004-2005 model years, plus some 2006 model-year cars. - Chevrolet HHR from the 2009-2010 model years (non-turbocharged only). - Some Chevrolet Cobalts from the 2010 model year. - Some Saturn Auras from the 2008-2009 model years. - Saturn Ion from the 2004-2007 model years. - Pontiac G6 from the 2005 model year, plus some cars from the 2006, 2008 and 2009 model years. - Service parts installed into certain vehicles before May 31, 2010, under a previous recall GM says no deaths related to the defect have been reported. It is still investigating whether there have been any accidents or injuries related to the problem. GM dealers will replace the power steering motor and other parts for free. Spokesman Alan Adler said owners will be notified of the recall the week of April 28 and will be told when parts are available after that. The Cobalt and the Ion, which are also involved in the ignition switch recall, share many common parts.GM recalled Cobalts from the 2005-2010 model years for the power steering defect in 2010, but it's unclear why the company didn't recall the Ion at the same time. Federal regulators also opened an investigation into power steering complaints in the Ion in 2010, but didn't order a recall.
