Up for auction is this real 1970 GTO Judge hardtop. Full original matching numbers drivetrain, and loaded with nice options. Documented with PHS and original build sheet (just removed) from top of gas tank, and owners manual. Recently discovered and taken out of dry storage, sitting since 1984, this car is perfect to be restored, or drive as is. The original Ram Air WS engine, 4 speed transmission, and 3.23 safe-t-track rear differential are present.

The factory option list on this car is impressive. Delivered to Eddie Ruch Pontiac, Inc. in Wheaton, IL, this car was ordered with: Granada Gold exterior, Sandalwood interior, Sandalwood cordova top, 4 speed transmission, console, power windows, air conditioning, power bucket seat, rally gauges with in-dash tach, am/fm radio, 8-track stereo tape player, formula steering wheel, remote mirror, power disc brakes, power steering, safe-t-track, front and rear floor mats, luggage lamp, G70x14 white letter tires, The Judge, soft ray glass, and ride and handling package.

Factory air conditioning, power windows, 4 speed, and lots of power options, is pretty rare find on a '70 Judge!

Original VIN stamped engine, #12 cylinder heads, original intake, and ram air exhaust manifolds. Distributor is a '70 GTO 350 hp unit, the voltage regulator and horn relay are original. Quadrajet carburetor is a '70 GTO #7040264, alternator, and starter are not original. A/C compressor and brackets are missing. The engine appears to have been rebuilt/repainted. Original VIN stamped transmission, working back drive lock linkage, and XF coded rear differential.

Upper and lower ram air pans are present, upper is the steel original, lower is an early fiberglass repro, assuming early 1980's. The air cleaner lid is also a replacement.  The ram air cable bracket is still under the dash, though the cable and flapper assembly in the hood are missing.

The interior is original, with factory shifter, console, and Judge glovebox door. Headliner and visors are nice with no tears or holes, all the original seat belts in place. The power driver seat, 8-track player, radio and horn button are missing. The driver seat cover has rips and wear, passenger seat has some wear, rear is fine.  The carpet had been changed to black, and '71 GTO sport rear view mirrors added, probably with the old yellow paint job, done prior to '84.  The dash pad is cracked on the top, and the radio area had been cut for an aftermarket stereo with 6x9 speakers in the rear. 3 original dated Rally II wheels still in place, and one '72 wheel are on the car. Belted TA tires are new from '84, but flat spotted.

The body, and frame, are overall very clean and solid. There is some rust in the rear 1/4 panels, and wheel openings. Normal dings and imperfections in some panels, not terrible. The worst rust is in the driver side floor, it is rusted through, but not in the toe kick area or under the seat. Trunk floor and jamb is very solid, clean and nice. The trunk lid is rusted on the lower edge/lip. The fenders look to have been repaired, and patched, assuming dented and repaired too. The rear bumper is in decent shape, the doors are solid, and usable, needing typical repairs.

The car runs nice even after sitting for 30 years. Installed new tune up parts, brake work, fuel and coolant systems flush, it runs with no major ticks, knocks, or smoke. Tachometer, gauges, dash lights, turn signals, and power windows work, speedometer does not.

A rust free trunklid, and a mint complete sandalwood dash pad with an uncut dashboard will go with the purchase of the car. I also have many other nos parts needed if restoration is desired, but these parts are at an extra cost.

Again, this car runs and drives, so if you desire an original, little rough around the edges real '70 Judge to fix and drive, here it is. If you want a very nice resto project that will result in one rare desirable car when done, this fits the bill.

Inspections, and questions are always welcome, and encouraged. Bidders with "0" transactions, your bid will be cancelled unless you contact me prior to bidding. The car may sell locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction early

Porsche still deciding on one or two new 911 plug-in hybrids

Tue, May 29 2018

Back in March, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Autocar that the coming Porsche 911 plug-in hybrid "will be the most powerful 911 we've ever had." That quote portended a 992-series 911 with 700 horsepower or more. A new report in Auto Express, however, suggests Porsche is having energetic debates about just what the 911's hybrid strategy will be, and that the only agreed-upon plug-in hybrid 911 so far is a milder version to sit in the middle of the range. Putting all our rumors in a row, in January, Automobile reported on an electrically-assisted 911 with 485 hp and 561 pound-feet of torque. The new AE piece effectively endorses that, saying the mid-range hybrid would follow the program established by the all-wheel drive Cayenne e-Hybrid that produces a combined 455 hp and 516 lb-ft. The 911 would naturally use a flat-six instead of the Cayenne's 3.0-liter V6, and the sports car would be tuned for better sound response and sharper reflexes. AE says fuel economy for this hybrid should be at least 80 eMPG, with emissions of less than 80 grams per kilometer. The current base Carrera is currently rated at a maximum 38.2 mpg in the UK, with minimum emissions of 169 g/km. The hybrid, fitted with a double-clutch gearbox and Porsche's mechanical all-wheel-drive system, could run from a stop to 62 miles per hour in less than four seconds, making it more efficient than a base Carrera and much faster than a Carrera 4S. AE says there remains only "the potential for Porsche to add a second, more powerful hybrid 911," and says its sources claim that's what's "causing the most consternation behind closed doors." This one would be the twin-turbocharged, 700-hp beastie that, as a series production car, would have a hard time not usurping the 540-hp Turbo, 580-hp Turbo S, and 607-hp Turbo S Exclusive. True, the hybrid would be handicapped with a 550-pound battery pack, but the instant acceleration and handling benefits of electric AWD — with no connection between the axles — could provide the final edge over the other three. As such, it makes sense that there'd be a whole lot of debate about a flagship 911 hybrid. On the other hand, such a monster seems like an eventuality in view of Porsche's electrified aspirations, the lessons gained from the 918 Hybrid and the 919 Hybrid Le Mans racer, and the fact that CEO Blume has already spoken. The Stuttgart carmaker expects a sales mix of 25 percent electric, 25 percent hybrid, and 50 percent conventional powertrains by 2025.

6 car mashups that God never intended

Sat, May 17 2014

In the 2000s, the musical mashup genre saw a peak of popularity with releases like The Grey Album from Danger Mouse that mixed The Beatles and Jay-Z. UK artist James Pursey from Carwow decided to take the same concept of shoehorning two disparate things together but applied the concept to cars. Your opinion on the results will vary with your sense of humor. These creations are either some funny pieces of abstract art or absolute monstrosities that prove good design should be left alone. Likely the best of the bunch is the Lambotomic (pictured above), which combines a Lamborghini Miura and an Ariel Atom. Granted, the Ariel is little more than a skeleton to begin with, and the outcome looks like a slightly stretched Atom with the new nose and tail from one of the most beautiful vehicles ever. This could actually work. Though, not all of the mashups are quite so pleasant. The Porschiac WW RS (pictured right) is absolutely disgusting. It combines a Pontiac Aztek, which isn't a beauty queen to start with, and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Obviously, the 911 is an iconic shape in autonobolia, but that can't save it from the horror of the Aztek. Pursey fits the its nose, wheel, wing, roll cage and stripes onto the Pontiac. The outcome: A design that will show up in your nightmares. Check out the gallery for the rest of the mashups, including the Humi (a Humvee and a Mini), Aston Smartin (Aston Martin and Smart), Rangerini (Range Rover and Lamborghini Aventador) and the Mazdafenda (Mazda MX-5 Miata and Land Rover Defender). They might not all be beautiful (or even pretty), but it's fun to imagine these oddball creations actually driving down the road. Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
