Up for auction is a rare project, extremely loaded 1970 455 HO GTO. This is a true 242 car.   The car was last inspected in 1991 (Speedometer 139,000) and has been sitting since then.  The car has some trunk rust and typical top rust from having the factory vinyl top, needs a roof skin which are reproduced or probably find one on Craigslist. The hood has had some welding on the inside, not sure if the perfectionist restorers would want to use it.  The floors the best I can tell look good from underneith the car. Frame also looks good, doors look good ,fenders look pretty good as does the eduro bumper.   Someone probably in the 80s aultered a elcamino bumper to fit probably thinking it had a 70 chevelle look as the pictures show.  The options are as follows after looking the car over    OPTIONAL 12 BOLT REAR END THAT COULD BE ORDERED ONLY IF YOU ORDERED THE 455 HO ENGINE,   POWER DISC BRAKES,  GAUGES,   POWER STEERING, FACTORY   AIR CONDITIONING,   POWER WINDOWS,   REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER,   TILT COLUMN,   UNDER HOOD LIGHT,   OPTIONAL INSIDE MAP LIGHT,   POWER DRIVERS SEAT,  ALSO OUTSIDE REMOTE MIRROR WHICH IS BROKEN,all options are still on the car and not stripped off like other projects that I have seen for sale even the 12 bolt still resides under the car. THIS CAR CAME ORIGINALLY WITH A 360 HORSE 455 AND TURBO 400.   Right now it has a 1973 400 engine and 400 trans. The oil looks good and there was nice green anti freeze in the motor.  I believe the car was probably parked due to trans problems ,fluid is brown in color.  The motor turns over easily but starter is not working or I would of tryed to fired it up.  Its definitely a rare and worth while car to restore. Ask all questions before bidding and if you need more pictures feel free to contact me so you will be happy with your project.  THE NEW OWNER WILL HAVE TO GET A TITLE THROUGH A TITLE SERVICE OR SOMETIMES YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF DEPENDING ON YOUR STATE.       NO TIME WASTERS OR WANTABE GTO OWNERS.  IF YOU DONT HAVE THE MONEY IN PLACE DONT BID. IF YOU HAVE 0 FEEDBACK I WILL CANCEL YOUR BID IF NOT CONTACTED FIRST BEFORE YOU BID.  I HATE TO HAVE TO STATE ALL THIS BUT THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF NON PAYING BIDDERS ON EBAY LATELY.       HAPPY BIDDING

2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.

This 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix Daytona 500 pace car could be yours

Fri, Jan 29 2021

Hopefully, the fans of GM's W-body '80s/'90s intermediates can forgive us, but we had pretty much forgotten — or had never really known — that one of the ways that era's Pontiac Grand Prix bathed itself in glory was by serving as the pace car for the Daytona 500. In fact, the Grand Prix paced NASCAR's marquee race every year from 1988 to 1992, and again in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003. That first year, 1988, the Grand Prix was all-new, making its debut on the W-body platform. It was also Motor Trend's car of the year. The 1988 Daytona 500 marked the 17th year in a row that a Pontiac was chosen to set the pace but the first time a front-wheel-drive car was so honored. The '88 Grand Prix followed a spate of Pontiac Trans Ams. This '88 Grand Prix, for sale right now on eBay Motors, is presented as an actual pace car, although fans could order a complete set of pace car decals for their very own GP. The pace car is based on that year's top-spec Grand Prix, the SE. In place of the standard car's 2.8-liter V6, however, the pace car uses a modified 3.1-liter V6, which is hooked to a five-speed manual transmission. This Grand Prix is otherwise largely standard fare excepting the roof-mounted light bar, the switches for which are located next to the radio. The mechanical odometer tucked into the digital instrument cluster shows just over 5,000 miles, and presumably, not all of them were acquired on the high-banked oval. With four days to go in the auction, bidding sits at $4,000 with the reserve unmet. Although the reserve is unknown, one clue is that this Grand Prix had been listed by a classic-car dealership in Pennsylvania for $18,500. Besides the debut of the W-body Grand Prix pace car, the 1988 race is also notable for its final lap: Bobby Allison held off his son, Davey Allison, to take the checkered flag, with the father-son duo enjoying a 1-2 finish. Now, who wants to re-live those Grand Prix glory days? Get on your Pontiac and ride!   This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
