1970 Pontiac Gto Convertible Original Engine Rust Free California Car Brass Hat on 2040-cars
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States
1970 PONTIAC GTO CONVERTIBLE RUST FREE CALIFORNIA CAR ORIGINAL ENGINE GM BRASS HAT CAR PHS HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN A RUST FREE CALIFORNIA BORN 1970 GTO CONVERTIBLE. THIS CAR LIVED IN CALIFORNIA FROM THE DAY IT WAS BORN UNTIL THE DAY I BOUGHT IT 5 YEARS AGO AND BROUGHT IT TO INDOOR STORAGE HERE IN FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA. THE GTO HAS NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE OR DRIVEN( EXCEPT AROUND THE BLOCK AT THE WAREHOUSE ) WHILE HERE IN FLORIDA. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM THE BEST FRIEND OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER AFTER THE ORIGINAL OWNER PAST AWAY. THIS CAR WAS ORIGINALLY USED BY THE GM ZONE REP UNTIL HE BROUGHT THIS GTO BACK TO THE SELLING DEALER TO PICK UP HIS 1971 GTO COMPANY CAR. THIS WAS CONFIRMED TO ME BY THE DAUGHTER OF THE SELLING DEALER WHO REMEMBERS THIS CAR AND THE '71 THE GM ZONE REP DROVE. IT WAS THEN SOLD TO THE FIRST OWNER. THIS ATOLL BLUE, BLUE INTERIOR AND WHITE TOP COLOR COMBO IS STUNNING TO SAY THE LEAST. I CAN SEE WHY THE ZONE REP AND FIRST OWNER WANTED THIS CAR. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT HAD BEEN PAINTED A DARKER SHADE OF BLUE AND HAD A BRAND NEW BLACK INTERIOR INSTALLED. I HAD PLANNED A FULL FRAME OFF RESTORATION AND PULLED THE FRONT FENDERS AND HOOD OFF AND CHEMICALLY STRIPPED THEM. THAT IS A FAR AS THE RESTO PROGRESSED AS LIFE TOOK ME IN OTHER DIRECTIONS. THE BODY IS RUST FREE AND VERY STRAIGHT EXCEPT THE DRIVERS 1/4 PANEL HAD BEEN REPLACED MANY YEARS AGO FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER BACKING INTO THE 1/4 PANEL OF THE GTO IN HIS DRIVEWAY. IT SHOULD BE REPLACED AGAIN AS THE JOB WAS NOT UP TO THE CONDITION OF THE REST OF THE CAR. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FOUND A RUST FREE CALIFORNIA GTO CONVERTIBLE WITH ITS ORIGINAL ENGINE? THIS IS THE KIND OF CAR WE ALL DREAM OF FINDING TO RESTORE. THE ENGINE IS ORIGINAL WITH VIN STAMPING. THE ENGINE WAS REBUILT BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD ONLY HAS ABOUT 1000 MILES ON IT. AT THAT TIME HE CHANGED THE HEADS AND INTAKE. HE KEPT THE ORIGINAL HEADS AND INTAKE AND THEY ARE INCLUDED. THE CARBURETOR IS A VERY RARE CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS CARBURETOR. THE TRANS MAY BE ORIGINAL BUT I HAVE NEVER CHECKED. I BELIEVE THE REAR END IS ALSO ORIGINAL TO THE CAR. THE A/C COMPRESSOR IS MISSING. THE GTO WAS MISSING THE ORIGINAL RALLY II WHEELS WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A NEW SET OF 15x7 RALLY II WHEELS AND NEW BFG RADIAL T/A'S. THEY HAVE NO MILES ON THEM. THE TOP WAS JUST REPLACED RIGHT BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE TOP NEEDS TO BE CLEANED FROM DUST BUT IS BRAND NEW. I KNOW THE PHOTOS STINK BUT THEY ARE THE BEST I CAN DO WHERE THE GTO IS. I WILL TRY TO GET BETTER PHOTOS AND POST THEM IF I CAN. I WILL ADD MILES WEDNESDAY THERE WILL BE MANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE, PLEASE ASK ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BID. THANKS FOR LOOKING. |

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire coupe
Thu, Feb 21 2019In a few months, we'll reach the tenth anniversary of GM's axing of the venerable Pontiac brand. G6s, Vibes, and Matizes continued to be built until 2010, but I'm noticing a marked decrease in discarded Pontiacs lately, as I perform my junkyardy rituals. Here's a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, photographed in a Colorado wrecking yard. The Sunfire was the near-identical sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier, based on the long-running (1982-2005) J-Body platform. It was cheap and simple, looked pretty sporty (at least in coupe form), and every parts store in North America carried just about everything you'd need to keep one running. This coupe had to compete for sales not only with a vast and menacing array of imports but with GM's own Saturn SC2 (not to mention the Cavalier itself). Meanwhile, the J platform was showing its age more with each passing year. This car sports what must have been the complete line of Fatal Clothing bomber-nose-art/skate-punk/gang-tag-influenced decals, circa 2010. I actually photographed this car back in 2011, then misplaced the image files until last week. The stickers are very California-centric for a Colorado car, but then plenty of Californians — including me— move here. When you know you're a car's final owner, it's a lot easier to whip out the paint pens and redecorate the interior. Power came from the engine GM developed for the very first J-Bodies: the 2.2-liter 122 pushrod four-cylinder. 2002 was the last model year for 122-powered Sunfires and Cavaliers; the most affordable S-10/Sonoma/Hombre trucks got this engine through 2003. It even came with a remote, so bad Midwestern farmgirls could make quick getaways when caught in the act by enraged broom-wielding mothers. This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod
Fri, 21 Feb 2014There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
Rent the 1967 Pontiac GTO from the XxX films now on Turo
Tue, Jan 10 2017The process of renting a car usually ranges from mildly annoying to "I'm calling corporate to get you fired." Plainly, it sucks, but sometimes you're left with no alternative. Turo, a peer-to-peer carsharing network, has created what's essentially the AirBnB for cars. Like AirBnB, the quality and variety of the rides varies based on location. If you're in Tucson, Ariz., in the next week, go check out this 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible before the release of XxX: The Return of Xander Cage. Promotions and marketing aside, this is still the opportunity to drive one of the original muscle cars. It's not clear if this is an original GTO or a Pontiac Tempest that was converted, but does it really matter? Old cars never drive as well as you hope, so, as long as it looks and sounds awesome, who cares? The owner listed on Turo is Xander C., Vin Diesel's character from the XxX franchise. This is the car that was used in the original 2002 film, and from the photos it appears to be in better shape than many other movie cars. The exterior is mostly stock, with some slight modifications to the lighting, wheels, exhaust, and trim, with the addition of a funky looking hood scoop that the listing claims shoots flames. It's not clear if it functions as an actual intake because there aren't any notes about what rests under the hood. The listing does ask for premium fuel, so more than likely it's some variation of a high-compression V8. Inside, the dashboard looks like someone raided the AutoZone accessory aisle. There are gauges, dials, toggle switches, and readouts galore. The listing also claims the Goat is packing a rocket launcher and a weapons stash under the seat. $999 per day isn't cheap, but it's less than you'd pay for a day with one of the rent-an-exotic shops you see in Los Angeles or New York. If you're not in Tucson or the price is a little too steep, Turo has what it's dubbed the Adrenaline Collection. The name may be hyperbole, but the lineup of cars is actually really solid. A quick glance reveals a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan, 2001 Ferrari 360 Spider, and a 1969 Jaguar E-Type. The car list keeps expanding, so if this proves popular, look for more cool stuff in the future.
