1970 Pontiac Gto 455 Ram Air Convertible Rare Car! on 2040-cars
Morgan Hill, California, United States
1970 GTO Factory 455 RAM AIR 4 speed convertible. PHS documented. 1
of only 158 455 convertibles! Only a handful of these had the rare Ram
Air option! Has the rare blue California license plates. I thought I'd never sell this car but unfortunately I need to let it go. Come take a look. You can drive this car anywhere. I recently took it to a cruise and car show that was 130 miles away. The car performed flawlessly.
Completely restored, frame off, everything stripped down to bare metal, every nut & bolt, wire etc.. removed and restored or replaced. Extremely rare 455 ram air. Options include: factory 455, Ram Air, Muncie close ratio M21 trans, 12 bolt posi (3:31 RATIO), power steering and power disc brakes, rally gauges/tach, console, am/fm radio. All colors as original E.G.,baja gold ( beautiful, polished to a glass-like finish), black top/interior, #1 car... less than 1,500 miles since finished. You can run a magnet anywhere on the body, and it is done right. Floors and trunk all original G.M. metal. Trunk pan is coated as original, not that cheap spray can stuff. All done to factory specs except the exhaust system which is an expensive Pypes X pipe 2.5 stainless steel system with the ram air exhaust manifolds, breaths much better than the original 2 1/4 inch. It is not too loud so you can hold a conversation with the top down without having to yell. All things mechanical and electrical work as it should. The car is VERY correct except for what I have mentioned in the description here. This is a #1 car. even smells like a new car inside. We used as much as possible of the original parts instead of just buying all repo parts and having a "reproduction" car. From the original T3 headlights to the very nice original taillights. All stainless has been straightened/polished... Rear bumper and shifter handle re chromed. Details about the drive train... The block is NOT #S MATCHING...Dates (rear, block heads) are all right at December 1969 which is not impossible for this 455 ram air car.. Trans is Jan. 23 1970 ( code on trans POA23B). Engine is a correct WA 4 bolt main block with no vin# ( for real). bored 30 over with trw forged pistons ( 9.5 c.r.), and completely balanced. Has a RAM air 4 spec cam which is a great cam for this engine.. Heads are # 64's and I have cleaned up/polished the bowls and ports (no heavy removal, just mostly the casting flaws, rough areas ) Port matched to the intake. Ferrea stainless steel valves and Crower springs/retainers. Trans is a Muncie M21 with a partial vin all correct externally The last 2 #'s are not visible the other #s are matching the vin of the car. When I rebuilt it I used M22 internals ( which should have been original, but at more cost to me) as the M21 and the M22 have the same gearing ratios but the M22 gears are of course heavier duty and the helical cut and of course much stronger...kinda neat! Rear is ORIGINAL and rebuilt. The carb is a REAL 7040273( I guarantee it) it IS a service replacement with a 2232 (223 day of 1972) date..it has the correct top plate (very critical for the 7040273) and with the correct bowl and bottom plate...it has ALL the parts of an original/correct 7040273. Carb was rebuilt by Cliff Ruggles of Cliff's High Performance Quadrajets. Distributor is the correct, 1112012. It also has the JT rims with the brand new correct Firestone Wide Oval tires. Some of the photos show BF Goodrich T/A's but the car now has the wide ovals and trim rings on the wheels. They look incredible. Tires were balanced with Dyna Beads and ride smooth. Car runs at 180 degrees. Recently had it in the 4th of July parade and it never moved past 180 degrees. This GTO is very beautiful and very correct and very well done. You can drive this car anywhere. It needs nothing. Come take a drive and you'll want to take it home. Please call me and ask questions. I can tell you much more about the car over the phone. 408-593-7375 |

GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll
Tue, 25 Feb 2014
588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.
Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative
Tue, 29 Oct 2013How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?
Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
