For your consideration is my 72 year old Fathers 1968 Pontiac GTO 6.6L

Here is what my father has to say about the car...

It was purchased new from showroom floor by an Executive's wife in Denver, Colorado (Porter Pontiac). I purchased the car in 1984 with 48,000 miles.I've always kept it in a garage and never drove it in the winter. It currently has 65,728 original miles and it is a 2-door coupe.

  • Color is a beautiful soft Parchment Yellow with a white vinyl top and white vinyl interior. It has a rare low back bench seat and center fold down arm rest.
  • Car is well equipped with the following
    • Hideaway head lights
    • Endura front bumper
    • Power Steering
    • Power Brakes
    • Air Conditioning
    • Factory Window tint
    • 400 CID engine
    • Automatic turbo/hydromatic 400 transmission
    • Rally gauges, less tach
    • AM/FM radio with factory rear speaker and rare reverb option
  • This isn't just the Old Man's muscle car...it has been performance enhanced but maintains a stock look!!
  • Enhancements include...
    • Professionally built 455 cid with Ram Air IV heads and matching cam
    • 12 bolt/355 positraction rear end
    • Slight better than stock stall converter with transmission shift kit
    • Long Tube Headers and free flowing 3 inch exhaust
    • Aluminum intake and 2 year old performance carb

Other information...

  • New top and repaint approx. 12 years ago
  • Original engine comes with the car but will need rebuilt

Most Important!!!

Although it was repainted and had a new vinyl top put on 12 years ago, the car was NEVER a rust bucket or a wreck! No panels were ever replaced including the floors nor do they need to be, this has always been a super clean car and the interior is absolutely original and presents very well. I dare you to find one nicer that has not had a ground up restoration! This car was hot oiled twice from the inside then sealed several years ago to prevent rust.

In conclusion...

The car has only been driven a few times per year on short trips and therefore will need some love and attention that include a small transmission leak, it was rebuilt 2 years ago, engine compartment detail and the paint has began to crack on the endura bumper. The car also can easily be returned to factory with a simple rebuild and replacement of the current engine and exhaust change. An awesome cruise-in car!

NADA average retail pn good condition is $33,120 asking $28,500.00.

This car is for sale locally, a non refundable deposit of $500.00 is due no later than 24 hours upon an acceptable offer. There is no expressed or implied warranty and the car is available for viewing in NorthWest Ohio, which I highly recommend doing. Please ask questions and I will be happy to answer them for my Father.  The vehicle must be picked up no later than 7 days of auctions end or a $35.00 per day storage fee will be assessed unless arrangements have been agreed upon. Shipping is the buyers responsibility.

Why Pontiac should come back and how it can be relevant again

Mon, Apr 17 2017

When I was a kid growing up in Metro Detroit, our family was always entwined in the General Motors empire. My dad and some of our relatives worked for GM in various capacities, and we had our fair share of Chevrolet, GMC, and even Buick products in our humble driveway. However, it was my Uncle Ed that always had a vehicle from the one GM brand that always appealed to me the most: Pontiac. Seeing him pull up in his Pontiac 6000 and later the '90s era Grand Prix sedan that replaced it was always an exciting occasion, and both of these models also reflected the playful spirit that once defined the Pontiac brand. Back when Pontiac first got its performance groove on in the '60s, names such as GTO, Firebird, as well as Bonneville became iconic nameplates in the broader muscle car era. The '80s saw Pontiac lose some of its styling heritage, but also try new things at the same time including turbocharging as well as the mid-engine sports car with the flawed but still sleek Pontiac Fiero. When the Pontiac brand was shuttered in 2009, it was a mere few years after I earned my drivers license, and also when Pontiac was just beginning to regain some of its lost luster. Granted cookie cutter efforts like the Pontiac G3, (Chevrolet Aveo) G5, (Chevrolet Cobalt) and G6 (Chevrolet Malibu) certainly did not help matters during Pontiac's final years on the market, but two models in particular offered a compelling glimpse into what could've been for the storied brand. The first was the Pontiac Solstice roadster/coupe. Originally introduced as a concept back in 2004, and championed by everyone's fighter jet flying auto executive Bob Lutz, the Solstice was designed to be a serious competitor to the Mazda Miata, and while its interior ergonomics were flawed and the top solution not ideal. It proved to be a fun little car to drive, and also a sales success for Pontiac with initial demand exceeding expectations. This was especially due to its lineup of engines with the 2.0 liter LHU turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 260 horsepower in GXP variants. The second and (inarguably my favorite Pontiac model) was the Pontiac G8 sedan. Originating in Australia as the Holden Commodore VE, the G8 was designed to rectify the multitude of sins created by the last generation Bonneville. Front wheel drive was pitched in favor of rear wheel drive, and for the first time in a long time interior ergonomics and cladding free exterior styling were key building blocks for success.

Detroit City Council vetoes Autorama stunt, objects to Confederate flag

Wed, Feb 20 2019

Detroit's Autorama hot rod show will stage its 67th annual event next month, and wants to kick off with Burt Reynolds tribute. The plan is to re-create the Mulberry Bridge jump from " Smokey and the Bandit" using a movie-correct 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. But the Detroit City Council voted 7-1 to prohibit the jump. Why? Because the Trans Am's front license plate holder displays the former Georgia state flag, a portion of which is the Confederate national flag, and the city council doesn't like that. In the movie, Bo "Bandit" Darville was a Georgia driving legend, and the flag on the car was Georgia's flag at the time. Councilman Scott Benson laid out the council's position when he said that the car "still proudly flies a Confederate flag, which is a symbol of oppression, slavery, as well as home-bred American terrorism. So this body said we are not going to support that type of symbolism nor the audacity to support that type of activity in the city of Detroit." It seems part of the council's ire comes from the same event two years ago. A stunt group called the Northeast Ohio Dukes re-created a "Dukes of Hazzard" jump in 2017 using a series-correct 1969 Dodge Charger, complete with a Confederate flag on the roof. Benson said the stunt group "expressly said they would not display that [Confederate flag] symbol during the jump." Not only was it displayed, but when driver Raymond Kohn gave interviews after the jump, his driving suit featured the Stainless Banner on the collar. Seems the council has been grinding its axe in silence for two years. Now Benson accuses Autorama of "a history of supporting images and symbols of racism, oppression, and white supremacy." Autorama is certain to take place March 1-3 at Cobo Center. This year's show will have around 800 cars on display, along with a special exhibit of 17 low riders and a Batmobile built by Flint native Carl Casper. Even if the Bandit car doesn't make the jump, the Trans Am and other memorabilia from the film will be there. A spokeswoman for Autorama said, "We are continuing to work to try to resolve this with the city." GM expands headlight recall to 180k Buicks and Pontiacs

Thu, Aug 20 2015

General Motors is issuing an expanded headlight module recall to include 180,504 examples in North America of the 2005 Buick LaCrosse (2008 model year pictured above) and 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Specifically, the campaign affects 159,584 of them in the US and 20,920 in Canada. When the part fails, the vehicles' low beams can stop working either intermittently or permanently. "GM is unable to confirm any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition," the company said in a statement, and there's currently no permanent repair for the problem. For now, dealers will replace the headlamp module with a new example of the same part. The automaker first announced this campaign in November 2014 when it affected 316,357 examples globally of the 2006-09 Buick LaCrosse; 2006-2007 Chevy TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer EXT; 2006-2007 GMC Envoy and 2006 GMC Envoy XL; 2006-2007 Buick Rainier; 2006-2008 Saab 9-7X; and 2006-08 Isuzu Ascender.
