1966 Pontiac GTO

Hello,

I have up for sale a beautiful 1966 Pontiac GTO. This is a project car but would take little work to become an absolutely beautiful car. A lot of time and money has been spent on this project which I will describe below. This car started its life as a 389cui backed with a 2 speed power glide automatic transmission. The car was originally order in Fontaine Blue with a black vinyl top and Parchment interior. This color combination will be stunning when completed. I do have the PHS documents that will accompany all other documentation of the vehicle when it is sold to its new owner. Other options the car was order with are as follows:

Radio
Verba-Phonic Rear Speaker
Rear Window Defogger
Rear View Mirror
Clock
Deluxe Wheel Discs
Console with Bucket Seats
Power Steering
Hazzard Warning Lights
Soft Ray Glass (Tinted Glass)
Power Windows

Since I purchased the car I've been slowly working on the restoration and at this point due to so many other projects I do not want to take the time or money to complete it.

The current condition of the car;

Body:

All rust repair has been completed by a professional body shop and completed correctly, rust free. All paint cut in has been completed including the doors and door jams, under hood, under deck lid, and around the front and rear window before reinstalling. The inner fenders are new and the engine compartment has been painted. The car has been put in sealer but needs to be painted.

Interior:

The interior needs some restoration and needs to be completed. I have most of the interior parts and they will be included with the car.

Mechanical:

The engine is a 1966 389 with YC stamping non numbers matching but is period correct. The transmission is a TH automatic. The drivetrain has been installed but the remaining components need to be installed and hooked up in order to fire the car. I removed this motor from a running car before installing. The accessory and exhaust manifolds are removed at this time.

I have a multitude of parts that will be included with the car and can be seen in the photos.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email you're questions. I will return all emails as soon as possible. If you send me your phone number I can call you and we can speak about the car and its condition if you prefer. Please make yourself aware of everything you need to know before you purchase the car so there are no complications after the sale.

Terms and Conditions:

This vehicle is sold as is where is with absolutely no warranty applied and the sale is final. Buyer to pay deposit within 48 hours end of sale and the remaining funds to be paid within 7 days end of sale by the following forms of payment; cash in person, bank money wire transfer or certified bank cashiers check. If buyer fails to make this payment within this time, the deposit will be forfeited and the car will be re-listed, unless other arrangements have been made between you and I. Buyer assumes all responsibility of shipping, I will make myself available for pickup of the vehicle. I have to the best of my knowledge represented the car as honest as possible.

A case for Pontiac's return

Wed, Apr 5 2017

Sadly, many brands have disappeared off of the automotive landscape over the decades. Many people have imagined over the years of restarting defunct automotive brands. A few of those dreamers even made prototypes to shop around and to established connections with investors. But, alas poor Yorick, however valiant an effort, many brands are shuttered for good, rarely to be heard of again except in historical tales or maybe seen in car shows. So, what do you do when you win the lottery? Not just any lottery... In fact, it is a lottery that takes care of you and your loved ones for life? You and your family don't have to work, ever. You can give to charity, pay other people to do those projects that you've been putting off, and so on and so on. But, you're still a Car Nut right? There begins the conundrum. Do you buy and fix cars, new premium cars, old muscle cars, or classics, or maybe, just maybe, do you buy the rights to an old departed automotive brand and bring it back to life. Hmm. Which brand? The problem with the old Pontiac was that it was an additional badge engineered vehicle in the portfolio of GM. The meant the brand was diluted by competition from its own parent company, in addition to the competition outside the camp. So, if it were to come back, it would have to be different. Yet, it would still need to keep true to its roots at the same time in order to wake up its armies of existing fans. Even those that aren't fans of Pontiac cannot deny that Pontiac has a long heritage of legendary vehicles. So do Packard, and Studebaker, and others. So, why would a lottery winner choose Pontiac as the marque to bring back? That's easy! Pontiac's long heritage is closely tied to performance vehicles that made many of a teenager drool. Even more important though is that Pontiac is still fresh on people's minds. The brand itself is only recently departed. So, Boomers, Generation X, and Millenials all would all be able to identify with it as opposed to brand names that disappeared multiple decades ago and that now have a more limited appeal. The return of Pontiac couldn't just be another launch of a badge engineered vehicle. It would have to be performance oriented, yes. But, it would have to be unique in some way, a niche brand. What niche though? Look at the automotive landscape now and you see that Tesla is the one out there grabbing at the wide open electric niche with success.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Pontiac Sunbird Sedan

Sun, Jun 28 2020

The J-Body platform was a giant seller for GM, staying in production from the first 1981 Chevrolet Cavalier all the way through that final 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. Outside of North America, Opels and Daewoos and Isuzus and Holdens and Vauxhalls and even Toyotas flew the J flag, and better than ten million rolled out of showrooms during that quarter-century. In the United States, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Buick, and Cadillac each sold J-Bodies. Of those, the Pontiac Sunbird often had the sportiest image, more cavalier than even the Cavalier Z24. I've documented a discarded Sunbird Turbo in the past, and now here's a bread-and-butter Sunbird sedan from the same era. The Sunbird name began its life in 1976 on the Pontiac-badged version of the rear-wheel-drive Buick Skyhawk, itself based on the Chevy Vega. The first J-Body Pontiacs had J2000 badges, then 2000 badges, then 2000 Sunbird badges, until finally the pure non-2000 Sunbird appeared for the 1985 model year. I remain disappointed that the 2000 name didn't survive into our current century, because we could have had a 2000 Pontiac 2000, or just the "2000 2000" for short. The base engine in the '86 Sunbird was this SOHC 1.8-liter four of Brazilian origin, rated at 84 horsepower. Originally developed by Opel in the late 1970s, this engine family went into cars built all across the sprawling GM empire. 84 horsepower doesn't sound like much— and it wasn't much, even by 1986 standards— but at least the original buyer of this car had the smarts to get the five-speed manual transmission. This car weighed just 2,336 pounds, a good 500 pounds lighter than the current Chevy Sonic, so performance with the manual transmission was tolerable. The '86 Sunbird's interior was much nicer than those in its Cavalier siblings, though nowhere near the Cadillac Cimarron's reading on the Plush-O-Meter. An AM/FM/cassette stereo with auto reverse was serious audio hardware in a cheap car during the middle 1980s, when even a scratchy factory AM-only radio cost the equivalent of several hundred 2020 bucks. The price tag of this car started at $7,495, or about $17,500 in 2020 dollars. The cheapest possible Cavalier sedan went for $6,888 in 1986, but a zero-option base '86 Cavalier would make you think you'd been transported to the Soviet Union every time you slunk into its harsh confines. Junkyard Gem: 1987 Pontiac Safari Station Wagon

Tue, Aug 9 2016

During the 1960s and 1970s, station wagons based on full-sized Detroit sedans were the default family haulers, and many of those Kingswood Estates and Country Squires and Ambassadors came with unapologetically phony woodgrain-printed exterior paneling and trim. By the late 1980s, however, few were snapping up such wagons, making this '87 Safari that I spotted in a Denver yard an interesting find. Power for this wagon came from a 307-cubic-inch Oldsmobile V8 making 140 horsepower. General Motors used this engine in Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Chevrolets, Pontiacs, and Cadillacs, finally discontinuing production for the 1990 model year. Was the "wood" convincing, even when new? Of course not, but it was a cherished American tradition. Related Video: Featured Gallery 1987 Pontiac Safari station wagon in Colorado junkyard View 18 Photos Auto News Pontiac station wagon
