1965 Pontiac Gto, Tripower, 4 Speed, Posi, 3 Owners...runs And Drives Great!! on 2040-cars
1965 Pontiac GTO For Sale
This car has been in a heated garage since 1999. I have owned for less then a year with initial intentions to restoring it and finishing the restoration that was already started when I purchased it. I have put $1500.00 into the car to get it roadworthy after its long sleep in the last 4 months with anticipation of keeping it. My life path has made new plans for me and I already have a '66 so thats where I'm at... This car is complete and prior to 1999 the previous owner had done a lot of work and and purchased a lot of new parts from Ames and Year One with intentions of restoring it himself with the help of professionals. It is a perfect restoration candidate. It has low miles and and only a couple of owners. To the best of my knowledge it has been in Utah since new. It starts right up and sounds great. It drives pretty tight like a low mileage car should. It goes through all gears flawlessly. I replaced clutch recently. It stops well. All of the wheel cylinders and rear brake lines replaced. It has new brake shoes on the front and new master cylinder. It has all new shocks and all new springs. Front end rebuilt by previous owners. The wheels and beauty rings / center caps appear to be original. Tires are in good shape, 15 inch. New Gas tank, sending unit and fuel line. Recent tune up and tripower gone through. New battery. It has new mufflers and tailpipes. Heater core replaced and heater works great. Does not overheat. Refurbished orig. radiator. I have driven this car around town and also have cruised comfortably on highway at 75mph. I have a current Utah inspection. All lights and signals work nicely. The previous owner told me that while he had it in the '90's the 389 has been rebuilt along with( the 4 speed and posi rear end as well! It appears to be the case when looked over by mechanic. Power steering no power brakes. Includes extra set of tri-power heads...(Stamped 77) Paint appears to have the original paint on majority of the car with other parts that have been repainted. There are a few misc doinks but nothing major. There is rust in rear quarters and a lil on bottoms of doors but other then that pretty solid.(see Pics) The trunk is solid and the rails and floors are solid. Have not found use of any major bondo repairs. Chrome numbers are straight but oxidized in places. Grill is nice. Doors shut nice and firm with no sag. Interior is original but carpet has been replaced. It has seat belts. Headliner is near perfect. A couple of misc tears in driver seat. Rear seat is beautiful. New rear speaker assembly. Dash is complete and all gauges work accurately. New glove box insert.** Extra set of near perfect black door panels included without the aftermarket speaker holes cut in them. All Glass is good with no chips. Wipers and pump work good. Wood wheel is in nice shape. Includes all handles, knobs and switches. Only thing missing is console:(. I plan on posting specific pictures upon request. Please feel free to contact me directly for additional questions or any concerns. I plan on getting all of the numbers(block, manifold, heads) listed on description on Monday. I am motivated seller but I'm not giving it away. Its a special car and great opportunity to restore. I reserve the right to end auction early and sell locally outside ebay if someone is serious. Car is available for inspection. Located in Salt Lake City. Another Burt Reynolds Trans Am is up for auction
Wed, Jan 18 2017Fans of Smokey and the Bandit, your car has arrived. This Saturday, January 21, Barrett-Jackson will auction a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am clone that, while not originally in the movie, was owned and signed by the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds. Not only that, but it packs many modifications that should make this Pontiac drive the way we all imagined it did. This is a Trans Am clone, not an original. The car was built by Nebraska company Restore A Muscle Car, and started life as a lowly Firebird Formula. However, the company brought it up to Trans Am grade and beyond. Under the hood is a fuel-injected 8.2-liter V8 from Butler Performance that Restore A Muscle Car says produces 600 horsepower. Coupled to the big V8 is a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. There's even Hurst line-lock on-board, so this Trans Am should be perfect for on-demand burnouts. The car also comes with QA1 coil-over suspension, so it should corner better than the original, too. The outside looks roughly like a stock Trans Am, but it now has 18-inch wheels styled after those from the movie car, and the shaker scoop says "8.2" on each side. View 5 Photos In 2014, a 1977 Trans Am owned by Reynolds sold for a whopping $450,000. That car wasn't an actual movie car either, and lacked the modifications of this one. However, it was used as a promotional car and was given to Reynolds, so it did have some history with the film. This upgraded car is listed in the Barrett-Jackson catalog as "no reserve," so it's going home with a new owner on Saturday, regardless of price. Related Video:
The last Pontiac Fiero sold for $90,000 at auction
Thu, Dec 3 2020On August 16, 1988 the last Pontiac Fiero, a red GT model, rolled off the assembly line at GM's Pontiac Assembly plant located in Pontiac, Michigan. It wasn't just the final Fiero, but the final car to be built at that site. The car was raffled off to one of 1,400 plant employees that would soon have to find jobs elsewhere. Whoever that employee was, they remained faithful to the Fiero and kept it in mint condition for 32 years. Last month, it was finally time to move on. It crossed the block at GAA Auctions in Greensboro, North Carolina where it sold for an astounding $90,000. According to the auction house, that's a new world record. The price no doubt reflected the car's place in history as the last example of GM's 1980s mid-engined sports car. However, it was also showroom-new, with just 582 miles clocked on its 2.8-liter V6. 1988 models were also fitted with an upgraded, Lotus-esque suspension produced for just that one year. In addition, this car, serial number 226402, came with its original build sheet, photos from the assembly line, and a collection of news articles and books. It still wore its pre-delivery plastic on the interior and was fully loaded with automatic transmission. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. You can see the action starting at the 2:50:13 mark in the video above. The Fiero was symbolic of the 1980s and stood out from the standard GM passenger car fare for its mid-engine layout and plastic body panels. In an era when GM often rebadged cars with minimal differences, the Fiero rode on its own unique chassis. It was positioned as one of the defining products for Pontiac, GM's "excitement" brand, but actual performance never quite lived up to its striking looks. Nevertheless, it garnered a cult following. It's often the basis for (questionable) custom builds mimicking more exotic models like Ferraris and Lamborghinis, thanks to a steel space-frame design that allows body panels to be easily removed. Thankfully, this significant example escaped such a fate and will live on as a reminder of an interesting chapter of automotive history.
Gordon Murray, F1-driven production and .. the Pontiac Fiero
Tue, Oct 31 2017Gordon Murray's design and engineering chops are unquestionable. But does his carmaking approach owe something to the short-lived Pontiac Fiero, a scrappy little car program that emerged from GM against serious resistance? Murray had a Formula One career that ran from 1969 to 1991, with stints at Brabham ('69 to '86) and McLaren ('87-'91), that resulted in several shelves' worth of trophies for the cars he was instrumental in designing. He moved on to McLaren Cars, the consumer side of things, where, during his tenure from 1991 to 2004, he helped design the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, two cars that took learnings from his two decades in Formula One. What do all of these cars have in common? Three things: They are light. They were built in limited numbers. And they were (and are) exceedingly expensive—when the McLaren F1 debuted in 1994, it stickered at $815,000. Murray went on to establish Gordon Murray Design in 2007. GMD has created some interesting concept vehicles, such as the diminutive T.25 city car (94.5 inches long, 51.1 inches wide and 55.1 inches high), and the OX, a lightweight truck for the developing world that packs like an IKEA shelf and is working toward realization through a worthy crowdfunding campaign established by the Global Vehicle Trust. Now he has created a vehicle manufacturing company, Gordon Murray Automotive, that will use manufacturing methods that he developed under the moniker "iStream." Unlike a unibody, there are the "iFrame," a cage-like construction made with metallic components, and the "iPanels," which are composite. The panels aren't simply a decorative skin; they actually provide structure to the vehicle. Presumably this has something of the F1 monocoque about it. Going back to the three elements, (1) this arrangement results in a vehicle that can be comparatively light; (2) Murray has indicated that his manufacturing company will be doing limited-run production; and (3) to launch Gordon Murray Automotive they are going to be building a flagship model, about which Murray said, "With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon." Which seems to imply that it will be on the pricey side. According to the company's verbiage, "iStream forges an entirely new production method that defies conventionality with its Formula One-derived construction and materials technologies." It also sounds a whole lot like ...
