1965 Pontiac Gto on 2040-cars
Fredericksburg, Virginia, United States
I purchased this car in DEC 2011 from a NASCAR mechanic who works for Joe Gibbs Racing... He purchased the car a few years before, and completed a frame-off concours restoration. The car only had 46,401 original miles on it before it was restored. Every part on this car has been restored, rebuilt or replaced with quality reproduction or NOS parts. - Restored to the original color of Palmetto Green Metalic with black Cordova vinyl top, and black bucket seat interior - Original Engine Block, Transmission and Rear End - 389 ci / 360 hp. - Tri-Power - Muncie 4 Speed and Console - Custom Sports Wood Steering Wheel - Rally Gauge cluster and Tachometer w/Padded Dash - California Only... Positive Crankcase Ventilation - Saf-T-Track Differential - Wheel discs -Custom, w/7.75 x 14 Red Line Tires - Wonder touch power steering and drum Brakes - Custom Retractable seat belts - Pontiac Historical Documentation - Window Sticker - Dealership Owner's Manual and original literature A former trailer queen, I now professionally store and maintain the car in a climate controlled museum like environment , only driving it (gently) on special occasions. The car was built the 4th week of June 1965 in Freemont, CA. The car was featured on the cover of the FEB 2013 GTOAA Magazine, and has won several car shows in the recent past: 1. GM Nationals Invitational, Carlisle, PA (2012) 2. POCA Convention (2011) Jr. Gold Award - 392 out of 400 points 3. Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge Tennessee (2011) Best of Show Stock Class 4. AMES Performance Pontiac Nationals, Norwalk, OH (2010) Best in Class - GTO
I've enjoyed the car, but I'm ready to sell so I can focus on other passions. This is truly the Holy Grail of GTOs and is museum quality. I have restoration receipts totaling 125K, but my reserve is not even close to that price considering I've been able to enjoy the car for the past few years. I am not writing much in the description section as the pictures are worth a thousand words. The car can be seen in Fredericksburg, VA and I am available to answer serious inquiries... dreamers please look and enjoy, but don't waste either of our time just wanting to "talk" about the car. I can arrange for professional shipping at the buyer's expense.

Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series
Mon, 10 Mar 2014NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.
Pontiac should come back as a performance division for GM
Thu, Apr 6 2017For decades the Pontiac brand was known as GM's performance brand. From the 1964 Pontiac GTO, to the 1967 Firebird, to the 1984 Fiero, to the 2006 Solstice Turbo, and 2009 G8 GXP, Pontiac had a reputation for building exciting cars, with bold styling and performance to back it up. When the Camaro was killed off in 2002, the Pontiac Firebird died off with it, and the last Pontiacs were built in early 2010. But with names like G3, G4, and G6, Pontiac's performance image had long faded from it's earlier glory days. My idea for Pontiac's revival would be to bring it back as a dedicated performance marque similar to Chevy's Super Sport (SS) line up of years past. First, and most obvious would be to bring back the Pontiac Firebird. Offering the entry-level model with the Camaro's 275HP turbo 4 cylinder engine, then having the Camaro SS's 455HP V8, but also offering a halo model Trans Am that is a revamped Camaro ZL-1 along with it's tire-shredding 650HP, supercharged V8 and race tuned suspension. Secondly, I would bring back the GTO. Which I would base on the current Chevy SS, but I would use the full 455-horsepower LS4 V8 (rather than the 415-hp setup that it has now). Furthermore, I would add the impressive 650-hp supercharged V8 to provide real competition to the Charger Hellcat. Importantly, I would make sure that the new GTO had bold, distinctive styling that really set it apart. I understand that purists would want any Pontiac GTO to be a two-door coupe, but I think that they could forgive that if the new GTO was an outstanding American performance car. Next, I would take the Buick Cascada convertible, add much bolder styling, swap in the Camaro's 275-hp turbo engine, and tune up the suspension to provide more performance than luxury (without being harsh). And finally I would round out the line up by using the new 2018 Traverse , but use the new, bold Pontiac design language to spice up the model's looks, tweak the engines for more power, and again provide a performance suspension that matches the model's new sporty looks. Obviously, having a high performance Pontiac model line up would steal away some sales from Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac models. But I think that it would more than make up for this by also stealing away sales from competing brands. Junkyard Gem: 1987 Pontiac Firebird
Sat, May 9 2020From 1967 through 2002, the Pontiac Division offered the Firebird, close sibling to the Chevrolet Camaro. By the third generation, which debuted for the 1982 model year, it became more difficult to tell the two F-body cars apart at a glance and the Pontiac-exclusive engines of the earlier years disappeared, but the Firebird still retained its own personality and its own position in the GM marketing hierarchy. I still find the occasional 1982-1992 Camaro as I search car graveyards for interesting stuff, but the corresponding Firebirds have become scarce in recent years. Here's a base-engine-equipped '87, its Bright Red paint (yes, that was the official name for the color) faded by the Colorado sun as it awaits the crusher. Firebird shoppers had their choice of three engines in 1987: A 5.7-liter Chevy V8 (210 hp), a 5.0-liter Chevy V8 (205 hp) and the same 2.8-liter 60° V6 that went into the Fiero and countless front-drive GM sedans (135 hp). This car has the base engine. The third-gen F-body didn't weigh much (3,105 pounds for the '87 with six-banger, about what a 2020 Corolla weighs), so 135 horses was tolerable. Plenty of these cars got T-5 5-speed manual transmissions, but this one got the two-pedal setup. Camaro wheels, of course. Our Friend the Carburetor didn't disappear from new cars until the early 1990s in the United States, though electronic fuel injection had become very commonplace by 1987. Still, GM considered this car's EFI worth a door-handle brag. It's not worth fixing up a mashed six-cylinder third-gen Firebird, so we can see the route this car took to its final parking space.
