Up for NO RESERVE auction is my 1964 Pontiac GTO Convertible. This is a real GTO that is documented with PHS paperwork that I have.
This car was restored 2-3 years ago. It remains in excellent condition and runs and drives great. This is a very nice car that really needs nothing, just get in and cruise. I am listing the work that was done to this car during restoration by previous owner; Body----- This is a real factory GTO as told by trim tag 5N option (ponitac,mi) build and PHS papers. Car was stripped to bare metal and repainted in Grenadier Red(original 64 GTO color) The original color of this car was Sunfire Red. The body is very straight and the paint the smooth and shiny. I have kept it in a garage and covered. The panels line up very nicely and the gaps on the doors are nice and even. The red paint is very nice and looks awesome in the sun. The car has had new chrome and trim when restored and looks awesome. Interior-----The original color of the interior was this same color, listed as Parchment on the PHS and trim tags--(really white) It is been completely redone with a Legendary Interior Kit. They are are best quality--It looks brand new, seats, door panels and carpet. The metal dash and door tops are all freshly repainted and in great shape. All gauges work, the factory style tach works and it has a new am/fm stereo with new dash speakers. Original am radio goes with car. All new correct wiring harness' under the dash and to the taillights. The ORIGINAL PONTIAC steering wheel is pristine. The horn is not hooked up. Top----It is like brand new--beautiful white POWER top with new rubbers and new top cylinders. Drivetrain---The car has a period correct Pontiac 400 Tripower with a 4spd trans. The motor is rebuilt, as is the trans, new clutch. The tripower runs great and LOOKS EVEN BETTER. The car was originally a 389/4v auto car--the change was done many years ago. Everything under the hood has been rebuilt or replaced, wiring, hoses, belts, chrome. The motor. Awesome redline tires with poverty caps are all new and steel wheels repainted. This car has Power Steering, Power Brakes and Power top. Suspension---All new and cleaned and rebuilt, springs, shocks, brakes and new exhaust with splitters. Everything works except the horn--all lights, gauges. This is a great cruiser that you can drive and not have to worry too much about. The car has a couple of very, very minor chips from normal use--NO RESERVE questions call 301 502 1337 Steve |

Looking back at Oprah's free-car giveaway 10 years later
Fri, 12 Sep 2014
Oprah kicked off her 19th season in dramatic fashion by giving all 276 members of the studio audience a free car.
Molly Vielweber's Pontiac G6 appears unremarkable at first glance. It wears forest green paint, rolls on five-spoke aluminum wheels, and it has a sizeable scrape in the driver's side door, the scar of a decade's worth of hard use. You wouldn't notice it parked at a big box store or cruising on the highway. Pontiac made hundreds of thousands of G6s in the 2000s, and a lot are still on the road. It's unremarkable in every way except for the front license plate, which reads, "Oprah 6."
Junkyard Gem: 1964 Pontiac Catalina Custom Ventura
Mon, May 22 2023Like Impala, Skylark, Malibu and Silverado (among many others), the Ventura name began its career as the designation for a trim level or option package used on another GM model, then became a model name in its own right. Initially a designation for a snazzed-up Pontiac Catalina two- or four-door hardtop, the Ventura name moved over to a Pontiac-ized version of the Chevy Nova for 1971. Today's Junkyard Gem, found in a Northern California car graveyard, proudly bears both Catalina and Ventura badging. Actually, the Catalina name itself started out as a trim level for the Chieftain and Star Chief models of the 1950s, just to confuse everybody. By the time this car was built, the Catalina was the cheapest of four Pontiac models built on the same full-size B-Body platform as the big Chevrolets and Olds 88s of the time (the Star Chief, Bonneville and Grand Prix ranked above it on the 1964 Pontiac Prestige-O-Meter). The 1964 Catalina four-door hardtop with the Custom Ventura package offered a lot of swank per dollar, with a price starting at $3,063. That's about $29,821 when converted to inflated 2023 dollars. The main benefit of the Custom Ventura package was an interior done up entirely in Morrokide upholstery. Morrokide was the name GM applied to Naugahyde fake leather when used in Pontiac vehicles; when used in Buicks, it was known as Cordaveen, while Oldsmobile Naugahyde was called Morocceen. Naugahyde took its name from the town of Naugatuck, Connecticut, where it was invented. This car's Morrokide is in rough shape. In fact, everything about this car is decayed and probably infectious. You know to be careful when a junkyard car has warnings about rat feces inked on the glass. That said, I couldn't resist examining the 8-track tapes that littered the interior. Here's Hotel California, the 1976 hit album by the Eagles. Supertramp's Paris, a live album recorded from the 1979 Breakfast in America tour, is here as well. Here's The Best of Carly Simon, from 1975. The tapes were played on this Sparkomatic player, which probably lived in the glovebox or under the seat. The factory radio was AM-only, and includes the frequency markings for the atomic-attack CONELRAD emergency frequencies. 1964 was the last year for mandatory CONELRAD radios in the United States.
Distracted driver crosses center line and hits police car
Wed, Apr 6 2016Attentive driving and quick reflexes saved the life of a police officer in Hudson, WI, when an oncoming driver drifted into the officer's lane and struck his cruiser. According to KMSP, the officer was patrolling along a busy road through Hudson on March 31 when the crash occurred. Dash cam video from the patrol car which was released to local media shows the dramatic collision unfold. As the officer came around a mild left-hand curve, a white, 90s-era Pontiac Grand Am continued straight through the curve, across the center line, and directly into the officer's path. The officer was able to avoid a head-on collision, but the Pontiac still struck the driver's side of the patrol car. "Both the officer and the other driver are ok, however, this accident could have been much, much worse," said a Hudson Police Department official on the department's Facebook page. "So please remember to pay attention to your driving at all times when behind the wheel." Minnesota's Department of Public Safety estimates that one in every four crashes in the State of Minnesota are caused by distracted drivers. DPS believes that the actual number may be higher, but police often have difficulty proving distracted driving as the cause of a crash. Government/Legal Pontiac Driving Safety Coupe Police/Emergency
