Up for auction is a real (according to all the #'s) 1964 Pontiac GTO. First off, I'm no GTO expert but I do know something about old cars.  I found this car in my own home town from a auto repair owner. He told me it was a real GT0 and was in in storage for the past ten or twelve years. He had the P.H.S on the car but came back with lost microfilm file and a refund check. So they couldn't come up with the original invoice for the car. He let me check and write down all the #'s and I went home to do some homework, and  It looks legit to me, The motor # is 9778789 late 64 eary 65 and the cast date is 1184 = January 18 1964. The four speed M20 Muncie is 3851325. The rear is non posi 3.25 code with cast # 9773369. All in all it looks like the original drive train and the speedo says 66399. It works  right on the money and the mileage meter works too and all the numbers line up straight in a row. I can't say if it's true milage and neither could the old owner but the way it runs and drives its to good for 166,000 if it rolled. Motor purrs like a kitten ,no smoking, knocking or ticking or oil leaking at all and the tranny shifts like butter and no leaks. The rear end is quiet with no noise or humming and no leaks. Exhaust is in great condition  and nothing rotted .Front end is all nice in tight, no pulling , steers strait and the steering wheel is dead center when driving.Thats why I think  it's original milage.Even the interior looks original and its how I got it . All I did was give it a good cleaning and polished some of the chrome.  I painted the carpet with carpet paint to make it look better. It was faded really bad but still in good condition. The floor matts look like the real ones too,in great condition.I reglued the carpet back on the door panels too to make it look nice again. The seats are mint, the console and hurst shifter is in really great shape and everything work as it should including the old under the dash cassette radio with the 6x9's.The Tachometer works fine , the owners manual is still in the glove box , the Jack and spare bias ply tire are still in the trunk also indicating low milage.  All the glass is excellent with no pits ,cracks or chips anywhere. All windows roll up and down and all the locks work with their keys too. The outside chrome is in good condition but the car needs a paint job as pictured. All four hubcaps on the car are in Mint condition and are very hard to find. The body is super solid with on rott that I can see, but it  had some surface rust that I touch up on the back of the car in front of the trunk .  Again the car need paint or drive as/is as you can see. The vinyl top is in excellent condition with no bubbling or tears. All I did was give it a good cleaning and it shines nice. If you paint the car you can leave the top alone to save some money.  So here is  what was done since the goat came out of hibernation. New gas tank and fuel sender was installed with new tank straps and new high test gasoline. All four shocks replaced and both u-joints replaced. Four new 205/75R14 tires  with 10 miles on them. New fuel pump, all fuel hoses and had the original carter 4bl carb rebuilt. The car didn't have the original air cleaner on it. It had a rusty old moroso so I install a new air cleaner on it so it looks presentable. New water pump, hoses, stat, anti freeze and new radiator with cap. Rebuilt starter, new A/C delco battery with new brass terminals. Complete tune up with all A/C parts and spark plugs. New master cylinder, all new wheel cylinders, hoses, lines, shoes and hardware kits. Stops on a dime! I pressure washed the motor, tranny and all of the undercarriage to remove all the old flaking under coating and grease. I stripped down the motor and gave it a complete detailing and polished the original valve covers and installed new gaskets. Changed the oil and filter and  add a zinc supplement to prevent any cam wear. Installed new oil pressure switch and temp switch plus new reverse light switch. The car is mechanically set and with a nice paint job you can have a real beauty. The car comes with a bill of sale and proof of registration only. Ct does not issue titles for car 25 years and older. You should not have any problems getting to car registered in your state with just a bill of sale. Please check with your DMV before bidding!! Any question, please feel free to call Loren at 203 687 0834.  No Trades. No bikes. No tire kickers!

Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can't let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you'd expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren't words for what you'll see below.
Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the '77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don't say we didn't warn you.

Junkyard Gem: 2006 Pontiac Solstice

Wed, Sep 4 2019

The debut of the Pontiac Solstice, back in 2005 for the 2006 model year, stirred up much excitement in the automotive world. Sales were brisk at first, and then they weren't so great… and then Pontiac itself went under The General's cost-cutting axe. One thing I have learned during my junkyard travels is that even sought-after sports cars eventually reach a point at which they start showing up in the big self-service junkyards. For example, the BMW Z3 began appearing in such yards about five years ago, along with the Audi TT. While the Honda S2000 still appears to be exempt from this process, today's Junkyard Gem shows that the time has now come for the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky. The first Z3s and TTs I saw in the U-Wrench-type yards were crash victims, not worth fixing, and that's the case with this Solstice. In a few more years, I'll start seeing the occasional Solstice/Sky discarded due to general worn-outness. Someone grabbed all the undented front body parts and the transmission (these items, presumably, being valuable), but no junkyard shoppers have felt like pulling the non-turbo 2.0-liter Ecotec. The interior seems dirty, probably from exposure to the elements while sitting outdoors in this Colorado Springs wrecking yard, but not in bad shape otherwise. Perhaps the car's owner celebrated a return from Iraq with the purchase of a sporty new Pontiac, 13 years ago. These cars have an enthusiastic following, so I wasn't expecting to see a junked one so soon after production ceased. I felt the same way about the Chrysler Crossfire, however, and I found two of those last year. What's next, a 2002-2005 Thunderbird? This content is hosted by a third party. Porsche still deciding on one or two new 911 plug-in hybrids

Tue, May 29 2018

Back in March, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Autocar that the coming Porsche 911 plug-in hybrid "will be the most powerful 911 we've ever had." That quote portended a 992-series 911 with 700 horsepower or more. A new report in Auto Express, however, suggests Porsche is having energetic debates about just what the 911's hybrid strategy will be, and that the only agreed-upon plug-in hybrid 911 so far is a milder version to sit in the middle of the range. Putting all our rumors in a row, in January, Automobile reported on an electrically-assisted 911 with 485 hp and 561 pound-feet of torque. The new AE piece effectively endorses that, saying the mid-range hybrid would follow the program established by the all-wheel drive Cayenne e-Hybrid that produces a combined 455 hp and 516 lb-ft. The 911 would naturally use a flat-six instead of the Cayenne's 3.0-liter V6, and the sports car would be tuned for better sound response and sharper reflexes. AE says fuel economy for this hybrid should be at least 80 eMPG, with emissions of less than 80 grams per kilometer. The current base Carrera is currently rated at a maximum 38.2 mpg in the UK, with minimum emissions of 169 g/km. The hybrid, fitted with a double-clutch gearbox and Porsche's mechanical all-wheel-drive system, could run from a stop to 62 miles per hour in less than four seconds, making it more efficient than a base Carrera and much faster than a Carrera 4S. AE says there remains only "the potential for Porsche to add a second, more powerful hybrid 911," and says its sources claim that's what's "causing the most consternation behind closed doors." This one would be the twin-turbocharged, 700-hp beastie that, as a series production car, would have a hard time not usurping the 540-hp Turbo, 580-hp Turbo S, and 607-hp Turbo S Exclusive. True, the hybrid would be handicapped with a 550-pound battery pack, but the instant acceleration and handling benefits of electric AWD — with no connection between the axles — could provide the final edge over the other three. As such, it makes sense that there'd be a whole lot of debate about a flagship 911 hybrid. On the other hand, such a monster seems like an eventuality in view of Porsche's electrified aspirations, the lessons gained from the 918 Hybrid and the 919 Hybrid Le Mans racer, and the fact that CEO Blume has already spoken. The Stuttgart carmaker expects a sales mix of 25 percent electric, 25 percent hybrid, and 50 percent conventional powertrains by 2025.
