1964 GTO clone, car started out a lemans. 305 chevy motor with solid lifter cam, edelbrock carb and torker intake, HEI dist, headers, pretty sure it has a gear drive in it also. turbo 350 trans with shift kit. car has power steering and power brakes. has I beam front axle with disc brakes up front. 10 bolt rear with 2.73 gears. I didn't build this car but i am assuming that someone used a mid 80s firebird as a doner car as it has pmd power seats (driver side), tilt column with shifter and they put the firebird gauges behind the 64 dash bezel (Im pretty sure 64 didn't have a 85mph speedo). the tach and gauges under the dash all work oil, temp, volt. has a nice stereo with 4 speakers. headliner and door panels are real nice, decent carpet, rear seat is ripped hence the sweet chevy blanket, front seats could use some attention, nice door seals and the doors open and shut really good ( no worn out hinges). paint is satin silver with a slight blue tint to it. (its base coat). battery is in the trunk, car is very solid with zero signs of rust and is amazingly straight, bumpers are even nice. front bumper has the chrome starting to peal on the very bottom under side as they all do after 50 years of service. I build gassers for a living and getting this car i was skeptical on how it would work, but It drives great and I love the power steering, almost a luxury gasser with all the power stuff and stereo. please call for any questions. buyer is responsible for shipping. I will help anyway i can of course. I also have videos I can send if needed. serious inquiries only please. chris 541-941-4299

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod
Fri, 21 Feb 2014There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
Motorweek looks back at the Pontiac Aztek
Thu, Jul 9 2015The Pontiac Aztek has earned a position as this generation's ultimate, automotive punchline. Even other execrable models like the Yugo or Mustang II probably get more respect these days just out of their sheer quirkiness, but the Aztek remains a joke. Fortify your mind for what's coming, though, because the much-maligned Pontiac might not be quite so atrocious, at least according to MotorWeek's latest Retro Review video. MotorWeek calls the Aztek, "GM's first true crossover vehicle," and it's amazing to think of the hated model as a progenitor of one of the most popular segments today. While admitting that the looks are polarizing, John Davis and company actually come away pleased with the Aztek's utility. They praise that there's a ton of room in the back, and the interior is packed with useful features like a removable cooler in the center console and radio controls in a cargo area. The show is even impressed with how the Pontiac drives and throws around accolades like "nimble" and "pleasant." After seeing the Aztek leading the pack on lists of the worst vehicles of all time for years, listening to it get such effusive praise is actually quite jarring. Could we all be so wrong? No, there's absolutely no debate that this is still a hideous automobile. However, MotorWeek asserts a complete reversal of the generally perceived wisdom about the early CUV. While unexpected, thinking about such an abhorred model in a different way is a cool experience. Check out the video for a different take on the Aztek.
GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported
Thu, 13 Feb 2014General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
