This is something I never thought I would have to do, sell my beloved GXP. This is used as my daily driver and my company is looking to change my auto reimbursement plan and thus it will not be financially smart for me to keep the car.  I need to move into something that will return 30-35 mpg, although this GXP does get a solid 19mpg on the highway, it's not the best choice when looking for fuel efficiency. That is the only reason I am selling the car, and it's taken me nearly a month to finally decided to make this post putting it up for sale.

Like I said this is my daily driver, but I have the luxury of working from home, so this car has never been driven in any snow or bad winter weather. This daily driver has won trophies at shows against other garage queen cars. It's adult owned, and adult cared for and I am a "Car Guy", and also own a Corvette Z06, thus my license plate and I am a member of BMWCCA. The car is protected with Zymol and Meguiar's Professional products on a regular basis.

The GXP is garage kept and has some minor mods that are easily reversed if desired. I love the Holden aspect of these cars, thus I have debadged the Pontiac emblems and replaced them with Holden badges wherever possible.

#684 of the 1,829 produced
1 of 37 as optioned with White Hot exterior, Onyx and Red Interior, Six Speed Manual, and Sunroof.
At present it shows 48,300 miles on the odometer and I will be looking to find alternate transportation in order to keep the GXP under 50,000 miles. The car is located in Burlington County, New Jersey; just outside of Philadelphia, PA.

It is still under the GMPP, General Motors Protection Plan Warranty, the best one available from GM. The GMPP is valid until June 15, 2015 or 100,000 miles and carries a $100 deductible. This can be transferred to the new owner if they desire. On Star Navigation is current and paid through June of 2014.

I am the second owner of the car. The original owner bought the car in Arkansas and put 8,100 miles on the car in three years of ownership. I bought the car as a Certified Pre Owned from a Cadillac dealership outside of Detroit, MI. I bought the car sight unseen, bought a one way plane ticket to Detroit and drove the car home to New Jersey.

It continues to be serviced at a local former Pontiac dealership. It receives a Mobil 1 oil change every 5,000 miles. I can provide all the service notes, as provided by my service advisor, if requested. I can provide his contact information if you wish to speak with him about the car.

Now onto the description of what has been done to the car.

-Window Tint, non-metallic, 20% on the rear, 35% on the sides, and 80% on the windshield. I use this for UV protection, you can not tell the windshield is even tinted, and yes this is illegal in NJ, but I have never been stopped. See the photos below from inside the car looking out to see the tint.
-Black sealed front license plate frame
-Removed the "PONTIAC" emblems from the trunk
-Removed the Pontiac dart from the trunk and replaced it with a Holden Loin emblem

-Block It Dustop Indoor/Outdoor car cover

Included will be all the OEM parts that were removed, air intake, engine cover, headlights, emblems, floor mats. Plus I have an unpainted OEM fuel door cover, if you wish to replace the chrome one. I have all documentation that came with the vehicle when sold as new, including Pontiac full line brochure window sticker, and owner's manual.

Three sets of keys, one original flip key, one original (never used) fixed key fob, and a brand new uncut flip key fob.

I have never run this car down the drag strip, it did see one track day at Pocono North Course. I am a driving instructor for Del-Val Miata and I brought the GXP to the road course to see what it could do. It preformed flawlessly and all preventative maintenance was preformed before and after the event, with no issues.

The car obviously has all of the OEM options, such as Bluetooth, heated seats, auto climate control, 6 disc in dash CD player, etc.

The car presently does have a lien on the title and that title is held by US Bank. So the bank will be involved in the transaction and transfer of ownership/title. I understand this will slow down the purchasing process, but I will work with the buyer to make sure it goes smoothly.

The asking price is set at $34,500 and I have very little wiggle room on the price due to the lien on the car.

Presently on Auto Trader there are 4 manual GXP's for sale within 500 miles of my home. None of them have the onyx/red interior or a warranty. Prices and mileage range from $38,995 to $33,500 and 12,000 to 37,000 miles. So I am right in line with the market, for a fairly stock car with two sets of wheels/tires and GMPP.

I have over 70 recent photos of the car, so if you want to see something specific please let me know.

Thanks for reading my long description, but I want to be sure to explain everything as best I can for any potential buyer. If I am this detailed about my for sale listing, just imagine how much detail I give to maintaing the GXP! The car is in excellent condition and I planned to own this for years to come, but it's not going to work out that way. There is no other car available today, that I would rather use as my daily driver, I simply love this car. My Z06 has been driven less than 2,000 miles since I have owned the GXP, it's that much fun to drive.

Are orphan cars better deals?

Wed, Dec 30 2015

Most folks don't know a Saturn Aura from an Oldsmobile Aurora. Those of you who are immersed in the labyrinth of automobilia know that both cars were testaments to the mediocrity that was pre-bankruptcy General Motors, and that both brands are now long gone. But everybody else? Not so much. By the same token, there are some excellent cars and trucks that don't raise an eyebrow simply because they were sold under brands that are no longer being marketed. Orphan brands no longer get any marketing love, and because of that they can be alarmingly cheap. Case in point, take a look at how a 2010 Saturn Outlook compares with its siblings, the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. According to the Manheim Market Report, the Saturn will sell at a wholesale auto auction for around $3,500 less than the comparably equipped Buick or GMC. Part of the reason for this price gap is that most large independent dealerships, such as Carmax, make it a point to avoid buying cars with orphaned badges. Right now if you go to Carmax's site, you'll find that there are more models from Toyota's Scion sub-brand than Mercury, Saab, Pontiac, Hummer, and Saturn combined. This despite the fact that these brands collectively sold in the millions over the last ten years while Scion has rarely been able to realize a six-figure annual sales figure for most of its history. That is the brutal truth of today's car market. When the chips are down, used-car shoppers are nearly as conservative as their new-car-buying counterparts. Unfamiliarity breeds contempt. Contempt leads to fear. Fear leads to anger, and pretty soon you wind up with an older, beat-up Mazda MX-5 in your driveway instead of looking up a newer Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky. There are tons of other reasons why orphan cars have trouble selling in today's market. Worries about the cost of repair and the availability of parts hang over the industry's lost toys like a cloud of dust over Pigpen. Yet any common diagnostic repair database, such as Alldata, will have a complete framework for your car's repair and maintenance, and everyone from junkyards to auto parts stores to eBay and Amazon stock tens of thousands of parts. This makes some orphan cars mindblowingly awesome deals if you're willing to shop in the bargain bins of the used-car market. Consider a Suzuki Kizashi with a manual transmission. No, really.

BMX rider flips for wrecked Detroit football stadium

Fri, Jun 12 2015

Detroit is littered with derelict ruins. Abandoned automotive assembly plants, sure – but also former sports venues, like Tiger Stadium in Corktown, Roesink Stadium in Hamtramck, and the Silverdome in Pontiac. BMX rider Tyler Fernengel remembers going to see the Lions and Pistons play at the Silverdome in his youth, and competed there in Supercross as a boy. The stadium hasn't been used in years, but now, with his career just picking up, Tyler has returned to film this video – riding through its halls, jumping its stairwells and flipping over its grandstands and field. It's a fitting tribute to a once-great venue of suburban Michigan. Check out the footage in this latest clip from Red Bull. This GTO-El Camino mashup is the muscle truck of our dreams

Fri, Aug 31 2018

There were a hell of a lot of great muscle cars in the mid-1960s, from the baroque Dodges and Plymouths of the earlier part of the decade to the wild big boys like the Boss 429 and Olds 442 W30. Right in the middle of the decade, two of the most iconic of the bunch emerged — the Pontiac GTO and second-generation Chevy El Camino. And this one is a 1964 Chevy El Camino with the heart and face of its GTO cousin, and dubbed the El Chieftain GTO. It's currently for sale at RM Sotheby's Auburn auction, with no reserve status or estimate listed. This looks like a product that Pontiac could have sold at the time — its builder, Ron Lindeman, did an excellent job making it look like a factory product, right down to the taillight strakes inspired by the GTO. It's powered by a 389 — a Pontiac motor that was actually found in period GTOs, but sporting a single four-barrel instead of the sexy Tri-Power setup. It is, however, equipped with a Hurst four-speed manual and the grille badge to prove it to bystanders. Even the interior is made up to look like a GTO. We wish there was more of a description of the build in the listing, but if you love it, do us one better and buy the thing and invite us to poke around it. We are very much in love with this muscle-truck mashup.
