For sale is a 2006 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe.

* 3.5L V6 - powerful and economical - car averages 27 mpg on my 15 minute commute to work. I have gotten up to 32 mpg on the highway with it!
* 4 speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
* Traction Control - can be deactivated by a push of a button
* Aftermarket smoked front head lights
* Aftermarket billet aluminum front grill - powder coated black. Paint has pealed off in some areas.
* Grill provides a phantom look for the fog lamps
* 65% tire tread remaining
* Power driver seat - lift and lower power only
* Power winders, locks
* Has remote start but the dealer says the hood latch needs to be replaced for it to work. Hood latch works fine.
* Auto trunk release from key fob.
* Roomy interior
* Passenger seat level broke but I have a new one on order
* 6 cup holders!
* Aftermarket JVC stereo with CD, auxiliary input, and ipod connection. This was installed with a professional kit and really makes the Monsoon speaker system sound great. I have Infinity 6x9's in the rear deck and the factory woofer, mid, and tweeter in the doors. I have the original factory stereo that goes with the car.
* The aftermarket kit relocates the cars info center which provides outside temperature, trip mileage, fuel economy, and oil life display.
* New rear struts
* New drivers side lower control arm and bushings.

* No warning lights or check engine lights on this vehicle

* This car is driven daily, so mileage will increase on a day to day basis.

* Additional photos available upon request.

There are few bads about the car.
* There is some very minor surface rust appearing on the bottom of the rocker panels.
* Typical blemishes from normal driving, age.
* There is a slight tweek in the right front fender (where fender meets the headlight) - only noticable if close up.
* When driving on very rough roads, there is a rattle that occasionally occurs.  I have had this car looked at over and over and no one can seem to figure it out.  As mentioned above, new rear struts and the previous owner said the front struts were replaced before I bought it.
* On very rare occasions, the car will start but then shut down.  When this occurs, I have simply turned the key off and restart, once started i give it a little gas and she is ready to roll.  I understand this to be typical for the G6.
* I know the above 2 items seem strange and a concern, but seriously, as a gear head and shade tree mechanic, these haven't concerned me one bit and the good qualities of the car far exceed the bad!

Let me know if you have any questions, it is a good reliable car and has never caused me any problems in the 4 years I have owned.

I am only selling it because we purchased a new car and really don't need this one.

There is a lien on the title currently, so the sale (payment after deposit) will need to be done during my local banks business hours (M-F 8 am to 5 pm).

Vehicle is currently being advertised for sale locally, I reserve the right to end the auction early if sold outside of eBay.

Drive plays Smokey, Bandit with turbo Trans Am

Sun, Jun 28 2015

The modern trend for powertrains can be summed up with the simple maxim: cut displacement and add forced induction. Whether you are looking at the just-introduced 2016 Chevrolet Cruze or a BMW M3, this adage holds true. However, Pontiac's attempt at the idea goes all the way back in 1980 with the Firebird Trans Am and its turbocharged 4.9-liter V8. Drive's Mike Musto takes out a 1981 example to explain what makes this largely forgotten muscle car so special, and it certainly isn't performance. While a 4.9-liter V8 might sound like a lot in the modern world, keep in mind that only few years before the second-generation Trans Am was available with up to a staggering 7.5-liters of displacement. Turbocharging of road cars in the early '80s was quite archaic by today's standards, and the Firebird only managed around 200 horsepower with this mill. Without much go, the turbo Trans Am made up for a lack of power with lots of show. As Musto points out, the famous flaming chicken adorns practically every surface you can see on the coupe, and boost lights on the hood illuminate when the turbo is spinning. Musto still finds a lot to like about the turbo Trans Am. He even calls it "Burt Reynolds as an automobile." Find out why the coupe is so special in this entertaining clip.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Sat, May 9 2020

From 1967 through 2002, the Pontiac Division offered the Firebird, close sibling to the Chevrolet Camaro. By the third generation, which debuted for the 1982 model year, it became more difficult to tell the two F-body cars apart at a glance and the Pontiac-exclusive engines of the earlier years disappeared, but the Firebird still retained its own personality and its own position in the GM marketing hierarchy. I still find the occasional 1982-1992 Camaro as I search car graveyards for interesting stuff, but the corresponding Firebirds have become scarce in recent years. Here's a base-engine-equipped '87, its Bright Red paint (yes, that was the official name for the color) faded by the Colorado sun as it awaits the crusher. Firebird shoppers had their choice of three engines in 1987: A 5.7-liter Chevy V8 (210 hp), a 5.0-liter Chevy V8 (205 hp) and the same 2.8-liter 60° V6 that went into the Fiero and countless front-drive GM sedans (135 hp). This car has the base engine. The third-gen F-body didn't weigh much (3,105 pounds for the '87 with six-banger, about what a 2020 Corolla weighs), so 135 horses was tolerable. Plenty of these cars got T-5 5-speed manual transmissions, but this one got the two-pedal setup. Camaro wheels, of course. Our Friend the Carburetor didn't disappear from new cars until the early 1990s in the United States, though electronic fuel injection had become very commonplace by 1987. Still, GM considered this car's EFI worth a door-handle brag. It's not worth fixing up a mashed six-cylinder third-gen Firebird, so we can see the route this car took to its final parking space. NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.
