Trans Am Immaculate, Only 1554 Original Miles, One Of One on 2040-cars

Year:2002 Mileage:1554 Color: parts have been replaced with polished billet aluminum
Location:

Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, United States

Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, United States

2002 Pontiac Slingshot

The first thing you notice is this special edition of the TransAM appears to be longer and sleeker than the stock TransAM or ANY other TransAM there is...That's because the car sports new19 inch Michelin Sports and magnesium Alms racing wheels (instead of the stock 17's and the stock painted wheels). The car is also lowered 3", but there is still plenty of height to negotiate the steepest grades. As you climb in the cabin, you notice that all the GM plastic has been replaced with the finest leather seating and includes the doors. You also notice that the cheap sill plate has been replaced with polished billet aluminum full length sill plate. Your eye is drawn to the fact that EVERY cheap plastic control knob, including the shift ball has been replaced with solid aluminum billet knobs. The pedals are all aluminum with the stamped WS6 logo on each. With the car at idle, there is the characteristic American V-8 rumble, which flows through hand fabricated stainless exhaust tips with a ceramic coated interior. At full throttle the the roar turns heads...at highway speed the exhaust noise disappears. In first gear the power is immediate, but as it moves through the RPM range you would swear the engine is supercharged. A surge of power at 3000 RPM's  pins the driver even further into the seat back. This happens in all of the first 4 gears. This Supercar can reach 60 mph in first gear! The steering is simply amazing! It tracks straight and true and the progressive variable steering effort is reminiscent of a Ferrari. The slightest hand movement changes the car's direction. The steering mechanicals are SUPERB!

If you are the least bit shy about being asked questions at every fuel stop and every red light, and having cell phones pointed at you all the time, this is not the car for you! But, if you want a machine that is EXTRAORDINARY this IS the car for you! It is being offered at a fraction of the cost to build it!

Think of it this way...you are looking at and can purchase what is essentially a brand new car with over 400 HP with NO GAS GUZZLER TAX, and NO LUXURY TAX and what will be a fraction of the sales tax originally paid on this car!

This car IS NOT a WS6, it is much, much faster, handles immensely better and is more luxurious! It IS NOT a Firehawk, it is much, much faster, handles better and is far more luxurious. It is not a Carl Black Blackbird, it is much, much faster, handles better and is far more luxurious! Why would anyone buy a Carl Black Trans Am that has half of the Supercar modifications and selling for nearly double the price?

This brand new Firebird Trans AM with every factory option was transformed by Sheehan Pontiac in Florida with full factory approval, as the full warranty remained in place for the car. Literally, few nuts and bolts were left unturned making this last production year, the last “Of the Breed” into a true exotic Supercar. There will never be another Pontiac Trans AM Slingshot!

The goal of the transformation was fairly simple…use revised proprietary vehicle geometry, increased power output, reduced unsprung weight and reduced the drag coefficient to build a one-of-a-kind best of the best among Supercars of the era.

All of the modifications were performed by master mechanics at Sheehan Pontiac, the largest Pontiac dealership in Florida in 2002. All of the modifications were approved by Pontiac, so as to not disrupt the factory warranty.

At over 400 HP, the Slingshot is a truly high performance car that was designed as a drag racing or circuit track vehicle, though it never has been raced. The car has resided in a private collection since its original build. It is the only Slingshot ever produced, so this is the only one in existence. The Slingshot name and logo is trademarked and reserved.

The original sticker price of a Trans AM optioned like this one was approximately $30,000 in 2002. This build added approximately another $40,000 to the sticker price at the time. The Slingshot was nearly a $70,000 Supercar in 2002.

During the years in a private collection, the Slingshot was maintained in immaculate condition, and at 1,554 original miles the car is essentially new. It can be enjoyed as a driver, preserved as an investment, or shown as a rare example of a now gone breed.

Be prepared to be stunned. This is a beautiful, extraordinarily powerful exceptional handling, rare one-of-a-kind driving machine! You have seen other 2002 Trans AM's for sale for $35,000-40,000. The Slingshot is much more rare, can run rings around any stock Trans AM and all others that have been modified, and most importantly is priced to sell. Thanks for looking!

All Perspective Buyers are strongly encouraged to have the Slingshot third-party inspected BEFORE offering not after you are the winning bidder.

A $500.00 deposit is required within 48 hours of a winning bid. Full payment is required within seven (7) working days.

The Slingshot is offered as is and where is. This is a private offer, but financing may be available for qualified buyers.

German prosecutors have recorded calls between VW bigwigs talking dieselgate

Thu, Mar 21 2019

It's barely possible to believe how poorly Volkswagen continues to handle dieselgate. Depending on which day you catch the news, the German carmaker embodies the corporate venality of "Michael Clayton," the comic blundering of the Coen Brothers' "Burn After Reading," and the every-man-for-himself vengeance of "Reservoir Dogs." Today is Tarantino day, with news that German prosecutors have recordings of phone calls between former Audi and Porsche development boss Wolfgang Hatz, ex-Volkswagen Group executive Matthias Muller, and current Porsche executives Oliver Blume and Michael Steiner. Hatz made the calls to the trio in November 2015, two months after Volkswagen admitted its diesel-particulate sins to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hatz was still employed at the time, and in his company car. Who recorded the calls? His wife. Hatz and his missus apparently saw the storm coming and started stacking defenses early. Hatz's wife, who can be heard encouraging Hatz during at least one call, sent the recordings to Hatz's attorney from her mobile phone. According to a Google translation of the German newspaper Handelsblatt's report, she included the note, "Here is a very long, but quite informative conversation on the current situation with useful formulations." The report in Handelsblatt said that in Germany it is generally "not allowed" to record a conversation and pass it on to a third party. We don't know how the authorities will handle this matter, since prosecutors found the recordings in e-mail attachments on Mrs. Hatz's mobile phone. Remember, when the diesel scandal broke, VW spent months saying that only a small number of low-level personnel were behind it, and all of the higher-ups had been blindsided. Ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn claimed to be "stunned that misconduct on such a scale was possible in the Volkswagen Group." Winterkorn successor Matthias Muller said, "according to current information, a few developers interfered in the engine management." Former VW USA honcho Michael Horn told a congressional committee that "a couple of software engineers" programmed the software for reasons no one could understand. In the recorded conversations, Hatz apparently called Muller to find out how VW planned to treat him.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.

This junkyard '91 Grand Am is as hooptie as it gets

Wed, Jun 29 2016

I spend a lot of time in junkyards. A lot of time. With all this experience, I have learned to recognize a perfect hooptie when I see one, a car whose final owner got every last bit of use out of it when its value was hovering right about at scrap value. This 1991 Pontiac Grand Am that I spotted in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard a few days ago, from the final model year for the third-generation Grand Am, checks all the hooptie boxes just right. First of all, it's a low-option coupe with the wretched and unloved GM Iron Duke engine, a rattly, gnashy, thrashy 2.5-liter four-cylinder kludged together using off-the-shelf parts from the Pontiac 301-cubic-inch V8 during the darkest years of the Malaise Era and used in cars whose buyers just didn't care. Most of the paint has been burned off by 25 years of harsh California sun, but the car spent sufficient time in a damp, shady spot for lichens to build up here and there. There are skeletons-with-sombreros stencils sprayed here and there, plus a big moonshine-guzzling skeleton mural painted on the hood. Goodbye, property values! Still, someone felt some affection for this car, giving it the name "Good Ol' Snakey" and painting that name on the decklid. We can assume that the Iron Duke was a bit loose by this time, probably leaving a serpentine trail of blue smoke behind the car at all times. So, the combination of cheapness, ugliness, menace, and who-gives-a-damn functionality make this Grand Am an excellent example of a pure hooptie. Within a couple of months, it will be crushed, shredded, shipped out of the Port of Oakland, and reborn in China as refrigerators and Geely Emgrands. Somewhere in Northern California, though, a few of Ol' Smokey's friends will remember this car fondly.
