2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Ws6 on 2040-cars
Pueblo, Colorado, United States
Up for sale is a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Ws6 with ram air and the basic bolt ons. I bought it stock from the second owner of the car and has always been a Colorado car. Never in any accidents and very straight with minimal signs of wear. The paint is in excellent condition. The car has low miles with 84000. I have put the bolt-ons on the car around 81000 miles. They include the Slp catback exhaust system version 2, Pacesetter long tube headers, Pacesetter off road y-pipe, Eibach sportline lowering springs, Volant intake, and Kyb adjustable shocks. I purchased the parts all brand new with receipts and had the parts put on by a shop here locally named RMCR. They specialize in Ls1 platform builds so they know what they're doing when it comes to doing aftermarket parts for these cars. The car runs a little rich due to the catalytic converters being taken off. It runs and drives great just the gas mileage suffers a little. I usually get around 20 mpg combined. The exhaust not on this car is probably the best sounding car I've ever owned. It's not obnoxiously loud but you can hear that Ls1 rumble. The transmission shifts smooth and the clutch grabs great. I always let the car warm up before driving it and I never beat on the car because I have a bike for that. I drive this car like a grandma most of the time. Everything works great including the air conditioning, power steering, power locks, power windows, power driver side seat, cruise control, traction control with a flip of the switch, and the heater works great. T-tops are one of the coolest parts of these cars. The driver side one only leaks a little when you go to power wash the car but when driving in the rain there is no leaking. The tires are in great condition along with the battery. Starts up every time and drives great. No leaks or smoking what so ever. I always change the oil at 3000 miles and I changed the coolant to regular because the orange coolant causes head gaskets to go bad. I changed the coolant around 3000 miles ago and I completely flushed all the old coolant out. It hasn't had any problems overheating ever. The radio works great but sometimes the display on the factory head unit goes out. The controls through the steering wheel work great and it's awesome to change everything while still holding onto the steering wheel. I keep my car clean and the interior spotless because nobody likes a dirty car. This car is in great shape and the only reason why I'm selling it is because I'm in debt with school so the toy has to go. If I didn't have other priorities, I would never even think about selling this car. This is by far my favorite car and will make anyone happy to drive. If you want to come check out the car or have any other questions my number is 719-242-5960. Thank you.

Gordon Murray, F1-driven production and .. the Pontiac Fiero
Tue, Oct 31 2017Gordon Murray's design and engineering chops are unquestionable. But does his carmaking approach owe something to the short-lived Pontiac Fiero, a scrappy little car program that emerged from GM against serious resistance? Murray had a Formula One career that ran from 1969 to 1991, with stints at Brabham ('69 to '86) and McLaren ('87-'91), that resulted in several shelves' worth of trophies for the cars he was instrumental in designing. He moved on to McLaren Cars, the consumer side of things, where, during his tenure from 1991 to 2004, he helped design the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, two cars that took learnings from his two decades in Formula One. What do all of these cars have in common? Three things: They are light. They were built in limited numbers. And they were (and are) exceedingly expensive—when the McLaren F1 debuted in 1994, it stickered at $815,000. Murray went on to establish Gordon Murray Design in 2007. GMD has created some interesting concept vehicles, such as the diminutive T.25 city car (94.5 inches long, 51.1 inches wide and 55.1 inches high), and the OX, a lightweight truck for the developing world that packs like an IKEA shelf and is working toward realization through a worthy crowdfunding campaign established by the Global Vehicle Trust. Now he has created a vehicle manufacturing company, Gordon Murray Automotive, that will use manufacturing methods that he developed under the moniker "iStream." Unlike a unibody, there are the "iFrame," a cage-like construction made with metallic components, and the "iPanels," which are composite. The panels aren't simply a decorative skin; they actually provide structure to the vehicle. Presumably this has something of the F1 monocoque about it. Going back to the three elements, (1) this arrangement results in a vehicle that can be comparatively light; (2) Murray has indicated that his manufacturing company will be doing limited-run production; and (3) to launch Gordon Murray Automotive they are going to be building a flagship model, about which Murray said, "With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon." Which seems to imply that it will be on the pricey side. According to the company's verbiage, "iStream forges an entirely new production method that defies conventionality with its Formula One-derived construction and materials technologies." It also sounds a whole lot like ...
Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
Junkyard Gem: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire coupe
Thu, Feb 21 2019In a few months, we'll reach the tenth anniversary of GM's axing of the venerable Pontiac brand. G6s, Vibes, and Matizes continued to be built until 2010, but I'm noticing a marked decrease in discarded Pontiacs lately, as I perform my junkyardy rituals. Here's a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, photographed in a Colorado wrecking yard. The Sunfire was the near-identical sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier, based on the long-running (1982-2005) J-Body platform. It was cheap and simple, looked pretty sporty (at least in coupe form), and every parts store in North America carried just about everything you'd need to keep one running. This coupe had to compete for sales not only with a vast and menacing array of imports but with GM's own Saturn SC2 (not to mention the Cavalier itself). Meanwhile, the J platform was showing its age more with each passing year. This car sports what must have been the complete line of Fatal Clothing bomber-nose-art/skate-punk/gang-tag-influenced decals, circa 2010. I actually photographed this car back in 2011, then misplaced the image files until last week. The stickers are very California-centric for a Colorado car, but then plenty of Californians — including me— move here. When you know you're a car's final owner, it's a lot easier to whip out the paint pens and redecorate the interior. Power came from the engine GM developed for the very first J-Bodies: the 2.2-liter 122 pushrod four-cylinder. 2002 was the last model year for 122-powered Sunfires and Cavaliers; the most affordable S-10/Sonoma/Hombre trucks got this engine through 2003.
