1999 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 5.7l Ls1 Automatic Leather T-tops Ws6 4l60e 5.7 on 2040-cars
Ray, Michigan, United States
This 1999 Firebird Trans Am is in excellent condition. It is Pewter Metallic (Silver) in color. This Firebird has a completely stock 5.7L LS1 engine and A4 4L60E Transmission. This is a T-Top car! The car runs great. It just had a major tune up about 5,000 miles ago with a new alternator, A/C Compressor, tie rods, spark plugs, rear end flush & oil change, and front end alignment. This car is an excellent driver! The LS1 puts out great power and makes for a sporty ride. The paint is in great condition with no major defects. There is a small crack right on the edge of the driver side door where it was opened into another vehicle in a parking lot. Other than that, the exterior of the vehicle is in great shape. There is virutally no rock chips in the hood or front bumper. This Trans Am does have a OEM WS6 hood and OEM 2002 WS6 wheels installed. The wheels are in good condition with some very light corrosion (common with these wheels) and some very light curb rash on the very edge (bead) of the wheel. The tires have plenty of tread to last a couple more seasons. The head lights go up and down smoothly as well with no noise. I have never had a headlight get stuck in the up or down position. It also has a Flowmaster Exhaust for a deep throaty sound. There are no other aftermarket modifications to the vehicle besides the exhaust. This Trans Am has been stored for every winter that I have owned it. The interior is in great shape. It has Leather Dark Pewter (Dark Grey) Interior with power front seats with power lumbar. Everything inside works just as it should. There is a little bit of wear on the driver bolster of the driver seat which is extremely common with these cars and higher miles. The only other defect inside is a small crack in the driver side door panel. The A/C blows nice and cold as well. Both power windows work. The T-Tops do not leak either. The car has a Clean/Clear Green Michigan Title. The car is currently displaying 100,5XX miles. The car is available for local pickup. I can also arrange shipping for anywhere in the lower 48 states. My shipping is extremely competitive and will beat out prices from any of the major carriers. We are a licensed Michigan Used Car Dealer. We can accept checks, money order, loan checks, cash, or wire transfers for payment. ALL checks must clear before car will be released for pickup. |

And a lot of those ways can be boring or tasteless. This one is neither. This is a seriously classy Pontiac GTO. Under the hood is a 461 cu. in. V8 from Butler Performance that's based on an actual Pontiac V8, not just another Chevy engine. The whole thing is subtle with a low-key metallic green and clean gray wheels. There isn't any overly flashy chrome or decals.
2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am
Mon, 13 May 2013No, you didn't read our title wrong. This is a 2013 model year Trans Am, and yes, that is a Pontiac logo affixed to the front of the car. But don't bother dialing up your local General Motors dealership just yet. This is the new Hurst Edition Trans Am created by the Trans Am Depot located in Tallahassee, FL. Having spent a number of years restoring early Trans Am models, the crew at Trans Am Depot finally did what many Pontiac enthusiasts wish GM would have done - create a modern Trans Am using the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
As the former owner of a 1977 model, I've been wanting to check out Trans Am Depot ever since I first saw the company have American Choppers build a trio of motorcycles inspired by its Pontiac remakes. So I jumped at the chance to head to Florida's capital city to visit the shop and drive its latest creation, the new Hurst Edition Trans Am. As a collaboration with Hurst, this car made its debut at the 2012 SEMA Show and then popped up again on our radar with a cheesy yet perfectly fitting video back in March.

The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land
Thu, Oct 15 2015Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top.
